Arsene Wenger has today confirmed Wojciech Szczesny as Arsenal’s number one keeper.

Speaking ahead of the FA Cup tie with Huddersfield on Sunday, the Arsenal boss praised the performances of the Pole and stated that he had no plans to drop him permanently from his starting lineup, despite the return of Manuel Almunia to Sunday’s squad, although he did hint at rotation for the Cup encounter.

“At the moment Wojciech is number one…He has done nothing for me to take him out, but I can rotate the goalkeepers.”

Fantasy Managers will immediately be put on alert as a result of this statement. It was expected that Lukasz Fabianski would automatically return to Arsenal’s starting XI once he has recovered from his shoulder injury; that no longer appears to be the case.

Szczesny is now clearly first choice and the role is his to lose. If he goes on impressing, there’s every reason to suspect that he could hold down starts for the coming Gameweeks – that includes Arsenal’s attractive Emirates double fixture in Gameweek 27.

The 20-year old stopper is valued at just 4.5 in the Fantasy Premier League game and offers very strong value for a defence that has kept 4 consecutive clean sheets in the league. The only downside to drafting in Szczesny, which also applies to Johan Djourou (4.2) in defence, is that his selections uses up one of three slots that can be filled with Arsenal’s wealth of attacking talent.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Right - I'm off to listen to Maurizio Pollini playing The Well-Tempered Klavier Volume I. Here he is, playing Chopin:

    Foster
    Hangeland, Djourou, Kelly
Nani, Adam, Dempsey, Van der Vaart
    Berbatov, Torres, Van Persie

Bench: Stockdale, Bardsley, Coleman, Yaya Toure

    Bank: 0.4

Looking good for this week? Pretty worried about Birmingham vs Man City, so thinking maybe I’d be better off sticking with Stockdale this week.

Have one transfer free. Appreciate any thoughts. Was thinking of bringing in Meireles for Dempsey – or perhaps Walcott since I have no Arsenal mid-field coverage.

Your forward line up is looking good and for your midfield Meireles and Walcott is a good consideration, you should go for either of them.

Time to ship Bale out, but for whom? Can't be Man U player and I'll be WCing in week 26.

currently have Nani, Adam, Brunt, Barton

if move is made today I'll have 8.5 to spend

    A. Young, I've only seen one Villa match, is he worth his value of 8.1?

Dempsey, why not have an American on my team?

Walcott, cause I like em and value may rise before I WC?

Modric, currnelty on an Adamesque BP haul?

    Someone else to consider?

Or just let it ride til WC and make move elsewhere?

It's a shame Suarez will always be remembered for that handball against Ghana. He had an excellent World Cup, and his second goal against South Korea was one of my favourite moments of the tournament.

That handball was a good thing! The highlight of the World Cup for me!

But yeah, he was class throughout. Massive shame that he's going to Liverpool, although if it means Torres is Chelsea-bound then I'm all for it!

Will be interesting to see how Liverpool line up... If you offered me either Gerrard or Suarez playing off Torres, I'd take Gerrard every time.

Unless Suarez plays out 'wide' then it will make it very difficult to select two central midfielders out of Lucas, Meireles, Gerrard and possibly Fat Charles.

I can only see him playing out wide, perhaps on the left. They NEED pace out there, and Suarez has a decent shot so can cut inside.

            Or they might go 4-3-3..

Doesn't really matter where he plays, I think he'd still do a better job than the player playing there atm 😀

He can't really be any worse out on the wing than maxi or kuyt 😛

It will have to be Maxi that makes way imo, with Suarez playing in any of the wide positions in the 3 of a 4231 or front 3 of 433. I'm fairly sure this will be how it works out, unless Dalglish wants to have a go at a 442 where Suarez obviously would be up front.

That deal never happened, I don't know why. Liverpool are probably better of with 15M than him anyway.

I agree, but all the Liverpool fans on the radio earlier were bleating on about how he's the ideal partner for Torres etc...

Liverpool's problem is obviously their shit wingers.

                Yeah.

I don't even think those fans calling radio understand how the position I/we're discussing now works tbh.

Many fans still think that a player is either a central midfielder, a winger 442 style (beating his man and crossing every time) or attacker - when in fact the position mentioned has elements of all these positions and plenty of the world's leading players over the last years start out in that position every game.

haha it was entertaining from a neutral perspective, and it pissed off ITV's horribly patronising commentary team.

It does now mean he'll always be presented in the media as a villain, rather than a wonderfully gifted footballer.
