Liverpool have refused a written transfer request from Fernando Torres as the Spanish striker seeks to force the club’s hand following the rejected transfer bid from Chelsea.

After several sources reported the formal request form the Spanish striker on Friday night, Liverpool moved quickly and issued a statement offering confirmation…

“Fernando Torres tonight submitted a written transfer request, which has been rejected by Liverpool.Fernando is under a long-term contract and the Club expects him to honour the commitment he made to Liverpool FC and its supporters when he signed the agreement.”

This follows an official bid from Chelsea that was revealed just 24-hours earlier; an approach that was swiftly rejected by Liverpool. Torres however, appears to have other ideas and reports on Friday suggested that the striker was “open” to the move and has urged the club to consider the offer. On Friday night those stories escalated further and Torres and his advisors have clearly decided to take more formal action to push for an Anfield exit.

The Daily Telegraph have suggested that Chelsea are ready to act on this latest development and are willing to up their offer by throwing in Daniel Sturridge as a makeweight, along with £30 million in transfer funds.

As suggested yesterday, Liverpool would seem unlikely to sell their star asset in the January window, although today’s news that a fee with Ajax for the signature of Luis Suarez has been agreed, proved an inevitable catalyst for further speculation. A Torres transfer request does considerably change the complexion of the situation and, with Chelsea poised, there now seems a possibility that the January transfer window will see a move between two British top flight clubs that would genuinely shake up the entire Premier League.

Fantasy Managers can only sit back and watch this one unfold further. Having already weathered storms served up by disgruntled versions of Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez this season, it will be interesting to see if this situation settles with a similar outcome. However, with Chelsea ready to offer funds and Liverpool already in possession of a new striker, something could actually materialise from this latest “sensational transfer saga”.

In the short-term, Torres is of course due to figure in Wednesday’s Premier League clash with Stoke at Anfield; right now, his involvement in that game looks unlikely as his future at Liverpool spirals into doubt.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I've stripped my defense down about as far as I dare, far more than I have before because of the wealth of attacking form just now. Guess ultimately you've gotta step back from current form and big hauls and just make sure you've got a good balanced team for the future that also fits with DGWs... Just so hard to leave those great players out of your teams.

I've wrestled with this one over and over, and decided to keeps Fabregas in. My logic is that if you downgrade Fabs then you'll inevitable spread the money around other places, like making defenders a bit better. But, if you suddenly want to get Fabs or say Lampard in it'll be much harder because you can't do it in on transfer because you'll need to free up money elsewhere first.

walcott has better points per minute (his points per game average is diluted by too many substitute appearances) than both fabregas and nasri. nasri is drying up now he is pushed out wide on the left. he is still influential on games but not as big a central threat as he used to be.

Yeah I agree, I wouldn't get in Nasri now. I'm actually going overkill with RVP, Fabs and Walcott, but given a choice between Fabs or RVP and Walcott, I'd go for the latter, rather than any Nasri option.

I fear q dip in (maybe not form) points outcome for Nasri, but the big question is the cost differential worth the points differential.....For me I'd go with Fabs as he'll get points every game and throw in a couple of massive hauls too....tough call all the same

I'm on mine this week, but I'd be tempted for A for you. Mainly just the option of sitting tight for GW27 and having two freebies for GW28.

About Wednesday though, the window will be shut by then. So if he is still at Liverpool then why wouldn't he play?

They're not gonan bench him all season surely?

As a Liverpool fan....I am very dissappointed that Torres chose to issue a transfer request at this stage of the month.

For a worshipped player who "loves" the Club its not the correct thing to do! Liverpool splahing £20m on another striker, a legend in Kenny taking charge it was filling fans with a sense of optism - BANG that soon ended.

Dont blame him with 18 frustratiing months - but hey time and place - re-assess at the end of the season.
Fans will quickly detest him if he shiits on the Club like this 🙁

It's a myth that players care for the club. Only supporters do. Just look at Rooney and Tevez's actions over the last year.

All players are interested in is money and winning medals, i don't think any of them care where it happens.

I agree. In a game where it's not even about national loyalties, let alone regional or club loyalties, it's odd to think of players having anything more than a nostalgic fondness for a particular club. Obviously people like Scholes or Gerrard are an exception, but international 'hired guns' are gonna go with the money and career prospects every time, and who could blame them.

Being a legend among fans (what is more important?) is not first and foremost about winning titles, it is about commitment, loyalty, heart and devotion. Take i.e. Fransesco Totti, a true Roma legend, the greatest ever among the fans, but what silverware has i won? Would it have made him a greater player, a bigger legend, if he accepted one of the many offers from bigger and more wealthy clubs, and won a couple of titles in Spain or England? It is easier for the giggs', the maldinis and the rauls, cos they are in clubs with squads and economy strong enough to win titles regularly. And it is also easy for talented players brought up in smaller clubs, cos a move away is obvious and understandable even for fans. But for the tottis and the gerrards, cought there in the middle, to stay and show loyalty, to keep pushing for success, is in itself the ultimate prize for a great player, cos he will stay legend among the fans forever.

There's massive level of misunderstanding here.

Torres wants to go because Liverpool are a 7th place team. Why would Aguero want to join then?

Liverpool have to build their team up again and in 4 years if they are challenging for the top, the best players might might want to go there again.

Apart from that I'm not even sure Athletico would take 40M for Aguero. I read they turned down a 50M+ bid for him and Godin a week ago or so and Godin is hardly valued at more than 10M.

I don't even rate Aguero THAT much, has he really done enough to warrant a price tag that big?

    Which is the better option?

    A) Fabregas and Barton
    B) Walcott, Cahill (When he comes back, I'll get someone else in just for next week) and about 1 mil to improve my defence.

I already have Van persie upfront.

    Thanks!

Anyone thinking of taking a punt on Carlos Vela with the home game to Wigan and the DGW just around the corner. I'm thinking of doing DJ > Vela.
