Liverpool have refused a written transfer request from Fernando Torres as the Spanish striker seeks to force the club’s hand following the rejected transfer bid from Chelsea.

After several sources reported the formal request form the Spanish striker on Friday night, Liverpool moved quickly and issued a statement offering confirmation…

“Fernando Torres tonight submitted a written transfer request, which has been rejected by Liverpool.Fernando is under a long-term contract and the Club expects him to honour the commitment he made to Liverpool FC and its supporters when he signed the agreement.”

This follows an official bid from Chelsea that was revealed just 24-hours earlier; an approach that was swiftly rejected by Liverpool. Torres however, appears to have other ideas and reports on Friday suggested that the striker was “open†to the move and has urged the club to consider the offer. On Friday night those stories escalated further and Torres and his advisors have clearly decided to take more formal action to push for an Anfield exit.

The Daily Telegraph have suggested that Chelsea are ready to act on this latest development and are willing to up their offer by throwing in Daniel Sturridge as a makeweight, along with £30 million in transfer funds.

As suggested yesterday, Liverpool would seem unlikely to sell their star asset in the January window, although today’s news that a fee with Ajax for the signature of Luis Suarez has been agreed, proved an inevitable catalyst for further speculation. A Torres transfer request does considerably change the complexion of the situation and, with Chelsea poised, there now seems a possibility that the January transfer window will see a move between two British top flight clubs that would genuinely shake up the entire Premier League.

Fantasy Managers can only sit back and watch this one unfold further. Having already weathered storms served up by disgruntled versions of Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez this season, it will be interesting to see if this situation settles with a similar outcome. However, with Chelsea ready to offer funds and Liverpool already in possession of a new striker, something could actually materialise from this latest “sensational transfer saga”.

In the short-term, Torres is of course due to figure in Wednesday’s Premier League clash with Stoke at Anfield; right now, his involvement in that game looks unlikely as his future at Liverpool spirals into doubt.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Still hurting from gw24, never thought 90 points would be so bad!

Planning on playing WC gw26 to get this team:

    Foster Begovic
    Kolorov Coleman Kelly Djourou Walker
    Fab Nani VDV Young Adam
    Tevez VanPersie Odem

and then do Young>Brunt for gw27

    and Brunt>Cahill for gw28

Having planned transfers straight afterwards is not ideal, but would work nicely with fixtures.

Any improvements that could be made?

Yeah but average is including the guts of 1 million players who've all but forgotten about FPL.....maybe exaggerating the figure a bit but surely a large chunk have given up bothering, hence bringing the average down

      Looks good.
I don't see the appeal of Walker personally.
Yes Young has a nice GW26 fixture, but if I were you I'd just start with Brunt and save your transfer for emergencies. Although, you probably would want to bench both Odem and Brunt for GW26 so you may have a point.

wanting to bench both is the reason why. Id rather save it as it will come in useful for gw28, need to have a look again at the defense for that weekend.

Right...3rd attempt at wildcard team for gw25

    Al Habsi (Foster)

    Djourou Kelly Pantsil (Coleman, Bardsley)

    VDV Adam Nani Fabs (Meireles)

    RVP Tevez Berba

Thinking Pantsil just for this week then change for Huth? Not sure if Bardsley might have got his points for this year now...

Or Djourou/Meireles out to make space for Walcott? hmmm

As most people are going to have three Arsenal players for week 27 for the double gameweek is anybody worried they are not playing in week 28, as well as Spurs and Birmingham which could leave you without a full team for that week.

Yep, I am deeply worried by this.

If we have no further news on Ars v Tot before the deadline then playing the wildcard this gameweek will have been a big mistake.

I've considered him and the problem for me are:

      - For 0.8m more you get Odemwingie, who is proven, guaranteed to start and has done well this season

      - Vela might well be deployed in a midfield position imo, or in an attacking wide position at least. That might give him some assists but if that is the case it is likely to improve Odemwingie's points too.

      - I'm not sure Vela is ready to produce yet, nor that he is strong enough to play every game.

    Foster Scezeny
    Murphy Kelly Coleman Kolarov
    Adam Fabregas VDV Nani
    Torres Van Persie Berbatov

With 9.6m to vacate the final two spots in my defence/midfield.

    Current team is.

    Foster Jaask
    Vidic Kelly Kolarov Evatt Salcido
    Adam VDV Nani Nasri Cleverley
    Torres Bent Rooney.

Bilyaletdinov, Fellaini, Rodwell, Saha, even Arteta.

Compared to, say, Downing, Sidwell, Muamba, Agbonlahor and Darren Fletcher

Hmmm... Not sure about this, I like Bilyaletdinov, Fellaini and Arteta a lot. For all his media hype Rodwell hasn't actually shown that much promise when he's played, at least IMO.

Arteta has had a crap season, but when he's played at his best he's a class act.

Yeah I might have made my point in an unnecessarily negative way.

I guess people just like Everton, but I genuinely think Moyes makes them much more than the sum of their parts and that plenty of their players gets a far easier ride than they deserve.

I still think that Coleman isn't all that, and Baines seems to be flavour of the month despite not actually being able to defend.

In fairness he's only really 'all that' in FPL circles....haven't heard of too many commentators over-hyping him.

I remember all the Arteta posts from earlier on in the season. "He'd walk into any top 4 side".

Aye, right. Billy seems pretty average but Fellaini and Rodwell have tons of potential in my opinion.

If he's playing well I think Arteta would walk into a lot of sides, but he's been poor all season.

    Which is the better option?

    A) Fabregas and Barton
    B) Walcott, Cahill (When he comes back, I’ll get someone else in just for next week) and about 1 mil to improve my defence.

I already have Van persie upfront.

    Thanks

      There's only one Rodders!

      Hugo Hugo Rodallega,
to the left, to the right,
jump up and down and touch your knees,
He's the best player on the pitch,
      and he shits up Vidic.

Got a toughie this week, need to play either N'Zog or Adam and one of Foster & Al-Habsi. At the moment I have Foster & Adam in but I'll be at the game on Tuesday so having 2 Wigan players on the bench isn't going to be nice.

Two ordinary teams out there. Most passes are going to the opposition.

Drogba will go down like he's been shot by a sniper and Chelsea will convert the free-kick for a 1-0.

Coleman looks quality - may have to join the majority and get him in.

Nicky shorey has no pace though, cant defend , cant get past opposing right sided players with burst of speed, oh and hasnt half the technical ability of Baines 😉

Baines is just unlucky England also have Cole at same time. Nott that Baines is as good as Cole but he could easily play internationally.
