Window Watch – Chelsea Begin Torres Talks

Liverpool have officially confirmed that a fee of the transfer of Fernando Torres to Chelsea has been agreed.

The sum involved has yet to be confirmed but, according to reports and day-long speculation, we can expect something in the region of £50 million. Incredible. Torres is currently on his way to Stamford Bridge where he will be expected to undergo a medical and discuss terms ahead of tonight’s 11pm transfer deadline.

This move was always going to be pivotal to the day’s events and so it proved, with Liverpool reacting to Chelsea’s move for their striker 48-hours ago by agreeing an incredible £35 million deal for Newcastle’s Andy Carroll. Expectations have been shattered along with transfer records on a quite staggering transfer deadline day.

A full summary of the day’s events will follow and, once we have confirmation, we will also bring you Scout Reports on both Torres and Carroll, assessing their potential at their new clubs.

I think the UK's inflation problem is primarily down to crack head chairmen thinking that it is worth paying a premium for a player because he is English. There is no need to regurgitate what Rio said but you can see why Wenger does not touch an English player with a barge pole (unless they are GCSE students living in Southampton).

    i have no problems with fees like that for the top world performers, they cant be found elsewhere and if you want them for whatever reason you have to pay up, what annoys me more is all the 10m and 20m fees for average players which similar skills can be found for far less elswhere in the world if a club had good scouts

If I was Liverpool I would have inserted a clause that says Torres can't play against them so soon after leaving, much as Newcastle United did when Andy Cole was sold to United.

  That's 3rd party involvement in team selection. That's what WH were 'guilty' of for the Tevez affair. I thought they brought in a 24 hr rule this year to say a player couldn't be selected until 24 hours had passed though but I cant find any reference to it online. must be wrong.

RIght my mate has told me 2 things this season.

1) Get Walcott in (This was before he got his hat-trick, so I (C) him in my mates team that week!)

2) Get Van Persie (This was last week)

He is an Arsenal fan but this week he told me to get Fabregas, so I have. He will be my (C) to. Third time lucky?

I can't decide what to do. Was orignally using WC in GW27, then GW26 now I'm thinking of activating it now.

3 main players I want to change, Torres Adam and Nasri. But I'm thinking of just riding it out this week and making 1 change.

        I read an interesting article last night that basically suggested utd's 'new' 442 is set up to get the best out of rafael. The wide men move inside to allow Rafa to bomb forward, much like Malouda/Cole at Chelsea. To cut a long story short, it was enough to make me keep him, even if he misses AV.
