Window Watch – Chelsea Begin Torres Talks

Liverpool have officially confirmed that a fee of the transfer of Fernando Torres to Chelsea has been agreed.

The sum involved has yet to be confirmed but, according to reports and day-long speculation, we can expect something in the region of £50 million. Incredible. Torres is currently on his way to Stamford Bridge where he will be expected to undergo a medical and discuss terms ahead of tonight’s 11pm transfer deadline.

This move was always going to be pivotal to the day’s events and so it proved, with Liverpool reacting to Chelsea’s move for their striker 48-hours ago by agreeing an incredible £35 million deal for Newcastle’s Andy Carroll. Expectations have been shattered along with transfer records on a quite staggering transfer deadline day.

A full summary of the day’s events will follow and, once we have confirmation, we will also bring you Scout Reports on both Torres and Carroll, assessing their potential at their new clubs.

Guys, what are the chances Torres has something in his contract that says he doesn't play against Liverpool on Sunday? (feels weird writing Torres playing against Liverpool, lol)

  There would not be anything in the contract but it would be an agreement between the sides possibly. Cole and Gillespie didn't play when they moved between United and Newcastle and the two teams were playing shortly after.

"Musings on the main transfers so far…

Torres – I think he’ll be an asset to Chelsea. No more 4-5-1 or 4-4-1-1 formations being the lone and sad striker. Plus, the flexibility of the way Chelsea play, means they’ll always be a bunch of blue shirts around him. No chance to get lonely and sad. He might even smile.

Carroll – Liverpool are taking a punt on the raw material. But it’s the raw materials they’ve bought that intrigue me – Strength, power and pace (over short bursts). Get him mixing with Suarez, Meireles and even Gerrard, on the training ground and his technical skills will improve. I think he’ll be a success also.

Seriously big money for both players but only the future will vindicate whether the decisions were right or wrong. My gut says I’m in the right team. ;-)"

  I'm tempted to play my WC tonight but had always planned to play it week 27.
  
  What do you lads think, play WC 25 or 27, just taking a -4 this week.
  
  I have this crop of players:
  
  Nasri - hamstring, out, 3 weeks
  Carroll - thigh, out, 3 weeks
  Torres - won't play, transfer
  Rooney - uncertainty over starting role though I think he'll start against AV
  Adam - uncertainty over transfer
  Ferdinand - groin problem but should start. 80/20
  
  If Rooney AND Ferdinand start, there is really no need to WC. I can take out Nasri and Torres and bring in 2 players that sum 20M for the next 2 games before WC week 27...
  
  If all 5 or 6 are out though, I should play WC. Problem is I only find out 20 minutes before window closes (lineups published) and that's too much stress to construct a WC team with...

        Sunderland is a tough away game, Chelsea need 3 points, Torres is fit, he obviously won't have trained with them before the game but it's not like they don't know who he is. I think he'll start.

Looks like these changes will affect me somewhat:

Foster/Stockdale
Hangeland/Djourou/Bardsley/Kelly/Coleman
Nani/Yaya Toure/Adam/Dempsey/VDV
Berbatov/Torres/Van Persie

I was planning on doing Dempsey > Walcott or Meireles, but if Adam moves to Livepool, I'll be wanting to replace him, and I'm concerned about Torres, now?

Thoughts? Only one transfer - anything more and I'll take a hit.
