Liverpool have officially confirmed that a fee of the transfer of Fernando Torres to Chelsea has been agreed.

The sum involved has yet to be confirmed but, according to reports and day-long speculation, we can expect something in the region of £50 million. Incredible. Torres is currently on his way to Stamford Bridge where he will be expected to undergo a medical and discuss terms ahead of tonight’s 11pm transfer deadline.

This move was always going to be pivotal to the day’s events and so it proved, with Liverpool reacting to Chelsea’s move for their striker 48-hours ago by agreeing an incredible £35 million deal for Newcastle’s Andy Carroll. Expectations have been shattered along with transfer records on a quite staggering transfer deadline day.

A full summary of the day’s events will follow and, once we have confirmation, we will also bring you Scout Reports on both Torres and Carroll, assessing their potential at their new clubs.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Will sell Nasri tonight (7.8), but still agonising who to buy. Walcott to keep my Arsenal balance, but is there anyone else I should be looking at: rest of midfield: Adam/Nani/VdV/Barton.....

Malouda's had a good go at hindering himself these last few months. But no, he could easily play on the left-wing.

I think Malouda will be massively hindered if they switch to a 442.

With a few very notable exceptions wingers in 442 systems for big money are not great for FPL

Me neither. Their width is mainly provided by the fullbacks and I really doubt that Torres or Drogba would be shifted wide a la Anelka. I don't see any of their midfielders as wide players ( No Fat Frank jokes please)

Ramires can do a job out wide, apparently.

              Cech
              Ivanovic Luiz Terry Cole
              Essien
              Ramires Lampard
              Malouda
              Drogba Torres

.....is how I think we'll line up, although I'd personally rather Mikel at DM and Essien instead of Lampard, but I doubt many others would.

Just coming back from work and feel so confused.com Torres going which was expected but still a bummer to what has happened to us that he is going to another Premier League team.

Mixed with the excitement or hope of a new potent strike force, have we paid over the odds for Carroll yes IMO but Im sure Newcastle fans would rather have him than the money...

Of Chelsea's right backs, Bosingwa is the most attack-minded, often goes on rampaging runs which are great to split weaker defences but will Chelsea's own defence very vulnerable. Ivanovic is more of a defender, he doesnt attack as much as Bosingwa and is a much better defender. Ferreira will surely be a bench-warmer from now, if he makes the bench at all. IMO now Chelsea will play Ivanovic at RB in harder games, but will still stick with Bosingwa in easier games. Just my thoughts

Its so frustrating being a Utd fan on transfer deadline day. I guess itll be even worse for arsenal and everton fans.

a keeper and attacking midfielder will help. VDS is already retiring, and we can hardly rely on Giggs and Scholes to keep up their standard for much longer

Decided against Carr for my WC team, given Brum miss out GW28 and I've already got Foster, 3 Arsenal and a Spurs.

So who to replace Carr with? Jara or Danny Simpson?

Tevez for me. I think they'll score early and beat a tired Brum side easily.
