Fernando Torres appears to be the brink of a £50 million move to Chelsea in a British transfer record that will illuminate deadline day.
The Liverpool striker worked alone at Liverpool’s training Melwood training ground yesterday, presenting an image that fuelled speculation further.
Torres is believed to have an agreement with Liverpool that would free him up from his contract if a bid of £50 million is tabled for him. Chelsea are thought to be weighing up such a bid to take the striker to Stamford Bridge. Should Roman Abramovich come up with the magic number, it is believed that Liverpool would reluctantly allow the Spaniard to leave.
Liverpool themselves are looking to confirm the signing of Luis Suarez today after the Uruguayan striker came through his medical. Blackpool’s Charlie Adam remains a target with Ian Holloway stating that his departure remains a possibility, while there are also reports that Villa’s Ashley Young, subject to yesterday’s Watchlist article, is also being targeted with an £18 million bid being prepared. The Telegraph report that Liverpool have already tabled a £12 million package for Young that was rejected by Villa only yesterday.
With the transfer deadline at 11pm this evening, we could well be in for a frenzy of activity – particularly if Chelsea flood the market with a record fee for Torres.
Many Fantasy Managers will be hoping for plenty of activity, particularly those still sitting on Wildcards and even those who have yet to eject the injured Samir Nasri from their squads.
