The calm before the storm? Right now we’re still waiting for the £50 million Fernando Torres bomb to go off, while the fuse looks to be burning away nicely on Andy Carroll’s proposed transfer to Anfield as his £35 million replacement. Incredible stuff if it comes off.

Right now we have to be content with just a couple of moves, the most significant of which appears to be Blackpool’s signing of Andy Reid from Sunderland. Yesterday it was reported that Ian Holloway had targeted the impish Irishman as a possible replacement for Charlie Adam who is of course coveted by Liverpool.

Could Dalglish swoop for the Blackpool playmaker to help ease the loss of Torres? It’s just one of many unanswered questions right now on what is proving to be a deadline day full of big speculation, although typically, nothing much has happened just yet.

          That's the issue though, everyone seems to think that its Football Manager and automatically we have this big transfer kitty - NO WAY would Ashley let more than £10m (probably far less) be invested in new signings. Not a chance.

    I think Carroll would have been a better FPL prospect at Spurs.

        Just been around Southern Africa and now in Australia. To be honest, my dad lives here in Oz, so it's easy to be online (despite it being 3am here!).

        I'll be leaving for NZ later this month. Changing the team is easy enough with internet cafes in places like NZ, but I do struggle to persuade my wife to go to them as much as I'd like.

    For anyone not watching SSN... Andy Carroll understood to be on way to L'pool ahead of possible transfer. Fee likely to be upwards of 30mil.

        +1 Glad I'm not watching it at home. They've been counting down the deadline for what seems like aeons.

        They hype it up to such ridiculous proportions, constantly cutting to reporters standing outside the gates of some ground telling you they saw X player arrive / leave 45 minutes ago, regurgitating the same bloody information with a different favour each time.

    Hmmmm. Following Tottenham's non-bid for Diego Forlan earlier, here's another move that might not be happening. Apparently Birmingham City have received NO offer from Manchester City for winger Seb Larsson (see 1320). The St Andrew's side says the only concrete bids for the Sweden international have come from Aston Villa and Newcastle. Those deals broke down because of a failure to agree personal terms.

          Liverpool will need to get CL football for him to be worth the investment.

          And they couldnt with Torres who is much better.
