Chelsea are reportedly locked in talks regarding the scheduling of their FA Cup fourth round replay with Everton following the 1-1 at Goodison Park on Saturday. There are currently two options which Chelsea, Everton, Fulham, the FA and the Premier League are discussing. Both solutions cause issues for us Fantasy Managers.

The first of these would be to stage the replay on February 15 which would prompt Chelseaโ€™s Premier League clash with Fulham on Monday February 14 to be rescheduled, almost definitely back into the weekend on the Saturday or Sunday but a further postponement and a blank gameweek 27 for the two clubs isn’t entirely out of the question.

The second, and most likely solution, would be to hold the fourth round replay on February 19, which is also the same day as the fifth round of the competition. If Chelsea beat Everton on this date, then their fifth round tie against Reading will take place on March 1 or 2, meaning that the Premier League clash with Manchester United in Gameweek 28 would be postponed. This seems the most probable outcome with the BBC website already listing it on this day, Evertonโ€™s official site shows it as TBC, while in Chelseaโ€˜s official post-match report from Saturday they say…

โ€œโ€ฆand so it is back to the Bridge, likely to be on Saturday, February 19.โ€

In the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, a Chelsea Gameweek (either GW27 or GW28) could possibly be blanked with Fulham or Manchester United also set to miss out. Itโ€™s the United fixture which looks the most probable to go, as long as Chelsea are victorious in their replay of course. That would leave Chelsea with a blank in Gameweek 28 and United with just one fixture โ€“ away at Wigan.

This is a poser for us; a potential nightmare for the Premier League. If the Chelsea vs United game on March 1 is rearranged then the next possible slot for it would be at the end of the season in May, due to an already hectic schedule, bogged-down by Champion’s League fixtures. The two sides already have a fixture on May 7 at Old Trafford, and the next obvious slot would be the following midweek. This would set up a potentially decisive couple of days if, as expected, the two sides are still fighting it out come the end of the season. In FPL terms we could find ourselves with a Man United and Chelsea (double) Double Gameweek on GW 36; a mind boggling scenario which could ultimately prove decisive in our Fantasy seasons.

In the short term, the prospect of a blank for Chelsea doesn’t bode well for Fantasy Managers; itโ€™s a major frustration given Fernando Torresโ€™s recent arrival and the signs that Frank Lampard is back to his best following his 12 FPL point haul last night. Chelsea remain a highly owned team with Ashley Cole (26.6%), Florent Malouda (24.6%), Didier Drogba (22.3%) John Terry (14.9%) and Petr Cech (9.4%) all darlings of the game. This complicated situation could also hinder those Fantasy Managers with United and Fulham players in their ranks of course.

We can only await an official announcement.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

Looks like re-scheduling of FA Cup Replays may cause more confusion in Man.City http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Chelsea-Manchester-United-March-1-Premier-League-match-could-be-delayed-depending-on-FA-Cup-results-article687409.html

The situation for Manchester City is even more confusing.

They have a Europa League trip to Greece during the week their replay with Notts County should be played.

It leaves little alternative other than to play the tie on fifth round weekend, with the winners facing Aston Villa on March 1 or 2.

That in itself would mean another shift in fixtures for Fulham, who are presently due to visit City on February 28.

yes it wreaks havoc with long term planning but if u use thsi site u have a massive advantage over your opponents that dont

i stand to win around £700 this season and as far as im aware none of my rivals use this site, thats probably why i scooped £800 last year ๐Ÿ™‚

I still don't like it, I feel I might lose out on what might have been good choices from the beginning because of fishy cup replays here and there.

because then the likes of exeter who played utd over 2 legs, notts county who now get a payday at eastlands etc wouldnt make money

too much goes to the prem these days anyway to take away cup replays would be a nail in the coffin for a lot of them financially

Not wishing to confuse the issue any further but the Man City v Notts County replay wont be played until 5th Round day either and assuming City get through they play Villa in the next round.

City have midweek commitments with the Europa League so to fit the FA tie in there could be Premier League postponements for Villa, City & their respective opponents at some stage as well.

If you take into the account the possibility of a draw between City and Villa then the chaos caused isn't really worth thinking about.

I fully expect that City v Fulham would be rescheduled into the weekend and there wouldn't be much of a problem at all.

The only "surprising" thing is that Chelsea seemingly want the weekend FA Cup replay (rather than pulling their Fulham game into the weekend previous) to go ahead so that their United game could be called off. It's all a bit conspiratorial.

Maybe I'll be proved wrong, but I expect City will be more accomodating (like the teams were last season). However, you are correct. However, it wouldn't affect Villa in the slightest.

They could have the option before the game if both teams agree not to want a replay then don't have one and play it out. Protects the revenue for the smaller clubs and limits the fixtures for prem teams/teams chasing promotion/avoiding relegation in other leagues.

Gameweeks 27 and 28 are starting to look absolutey crucial!

27 - As we all know, the Double Gameweek heaven, where teams such as Birmingham, Arsenal, Spurs and West Brom have fixtures that are simply to die for!

28 - A possible "no games" bonanza, where Man United, Arsenal, Tottenham, (and Wigan) have nothing on!

Those could be two weeks with big, big swings to be gained.

Haven't seen Coleman's but I think the Fabs one is similar to Adam's assist the other week against Man Utd.

I think they will rule that the lob from Fabs was going to reach Arshavin anyway, the defender's header didn't significantly alter that fact.

Personally, I have Fabs but I'd love them to take the assist away as my rival captained him last night and I had Berbs as my skipper. So, I'd be quite glad to see his 13 pt lead on me reduced to 7!

I would really appreciate anyone's help on this!!

    Al-Habsi (Stockdale)

    Coleman, Elmohamady, Hangeland, (Gohouri), (Perch)

    Nani, Dempsey, Fabregas, VDV (Downing)

    Berbatov, Torres, Campbell

    Here's the facts:

    -no money in the bank
    -both WC's already used
    - have 2 free transfers
-I know I need to get rid of Stockdale and Dempsey after this next game

Any ideas? Don't wanna take any more than a 4 point hit if necessary...

Thanks in advance to anyone who was nice enough to read and reply!

This week you can play Al-Habsi so leave your keepers alone this week. But, take out Stockdale next week and get Foster or Szczesny in for the DGW.

Downing to Adam and Perch to Djourou is a move you can make this week.

That gives you 3 extra DGW players over the next 2 weeks without any points hits.

If you are OK with taking a 4 pt hit then get RVP for Berbs next week (keep Berbs for Wolves away as he should do some business there, but next week against Man City he'll probably be usesless).

The point being that they would have had their replay on February 15th if they weren't playing Aris, so there is a knock-on effect.

I really don't get what you're trying to say Michael, that is exactly what this article is about.

The crux is this: The FA wanted replays to be played on Feb 15th but Man City can't and Chelsea don't want to. Hence, at the moment, they are playing on the 19th and the potential for mayhem down the line.

In my opinion, Nolan is a great option. He gets his FPL points from goals, and Newcastle still has Ameobi and Best who can both be great supporters of Nolan's goals. Plus Ireland may provide assists for Nolan. Nolan also has the double coming up in 27 and in general has decent fixtures till the end of the season. Lampard is expensive - that money can be used on other more proven players

Ok folk who wanna know what the Greasemonkey goodness is about. Here is a very short breakdown of a couple of the benefits.
It provides a percentage of how good you are at getting the captaincy and bench lineup right.
When on the transfer screen instead of seeing under your players merely

    Tevez
    11.1

    It gives you
    Tevez
    Paid 10.7
    Sells for 11.1
    Costs 11.5
    Started at 10.5
    Form 4
    Value form 0.4
Razza rating 488 (not sure what his rating is based on to be honest)

So as you see that is very handy when doing transfers particularly a wildcard as you see instantly the amount of loss/profit on each player if you sell them.

The captaincy/bench thing gives you a set of numbers like this:
    # (c)=128/305 41.9% Bench=128 9.8%

Best explained by Torres Magic thus:
    (c) a/b c% Bench = d, e%

    a = captain points total
b = highest weekly scorer total
    c = (a/b)x 100
    d = total bench points
    e = (d/total score or similiar) x 100

The programme also gives you more detailed player history, splitting into home and away fixtures and giving you an average PPG for home or away.

It probably does f*ck loads more than this, I've only had it a couple of days and I find it extremely useful.

Response from FPL on the two dodgy assists last night, most pertinent point is that they obviously changed direction, unless UP, isn't a direction anymore (mind you, football is a joke, so maybe the FA think the laws of physics don't apply to them, along with the laws of common sense) YOU NEED TO READ FROM THE BOTTOM UP

    --------------------

    Hi there,

i strongly disagree with you, Coleman's pass not only went up in the air, it went laterally too. Fabregas's also went up in the air, hence, changing direction. You seriously think it didnt change direction?! The football field is a three dimensional playing area, both passes changed direction. This is a major mistake, and you guys are wrong, and aren't rewarding people that play this game with clear rules. I think you guys just don't want to go back and do the admin to change it. You're basically giving people that play this game semi-seriously a big two fingers with all of these stupid decisions.

You should have more pride in what you do.

thanks for coming back to me.

Subject: Re: Feb 1st , Coleman and Fabregas assist COULDNt be assists

    Hi there

Both assists were awarded as the ball did not signficantly change direction after the defenders' touches.

The Press Association provide all the data for our games, and we will
pass your comments on to them.

However as it states in the rules:

"Neither we nor the Press Association will enter into any correspondence
relating to the allocation of points to players."

    Regards
    FPL

    On 02/02/11 00:00,

    Hi folks,

both passes went high up in the air, changed direction, then down again, then the goals were scored.

Come on, these can't be assists yet they're still up on the site.

Can you take a look at the replays at least?

    Thanks

The rules are blurry, your right about that. But both Coleman and Fabregas tried to assist the goalscorer and the defenders weren't able to clear it. Yes, they changed direction but there is a difference to that Nani accidently 'assist' to Park which weren't given (rightly).

It all hinges on the word "significantly", and FPL's definition of that word seems to be inconsistent, but all laws are full of words like "reasonable" "proportional" "appropriate" that only get slowly defined through years and years of case law - and that's when people's lives are at stake and vast amounts of money is spent on lawyers. This is a free game on the internet.

FWIW shefki intent is not mentioned in the rules as written, so an assist being "accidental" is just as valid as a deliberate one.

I really think they try to award any points they can to keep the traffic up on this site and therefor ad revenues. Shower of K unts, i think it wiull stay like this, but i can still email them and tell them theyre a fooking joke.

How could they make it simple RBJ? The only way I can see is to say that any deflection means it isn't an assist, deflections can be spotted pretty much 100% of the time. The moment the rules require a judgement on something subjective like intent or the significance of a deflection there will always be more than one way to interpret it and hence argument...

So in your opinion a fair assist rule would be one in which FPL have to make a judgement on what the passing player was thinking at the time he passed it. Imagine the arguments.

I'm not saying what a fair rule would be like. I'm just saying that Coleman and Fabregas deserved their assists yesterday and people who disagree are nitpickers.

I think it's almost impossible that a written rule would serve the purpose perfectly. Sometimes a deflection denies an assist but sometimes it's not significant. There will be cases where common sense needs to be used instead of a written rule.

      Bad luck there.

Cheers for the sympathy, but I've been told it's my own fault for getting him in the first place.

Maybe if you e-mail FPL you can try and get his appendix re-instated.

Haha! Love the Puritanical sentiments you get on here,
"of course its your fault, did you not know that anyones appendix could go at any time? I only sign players who have had their appendix removed, and their tonsils too. Just in case"

Though I must say getting Modric was a lot less baffling than Jamsie P getting Lennon! What was all that about?! Really hope it doesn't pay off, he'll be insufferable if it does.

Just curious, because I haven't had Foster all season (don't ask), just wondering if most only have Foster in their WC team because they got him at 4.5?

Is he worth getting in at 5.2 do you think?

I'm not sure if I'd get him at 5.2. But yeah I'm keeping because I've had him all season and hes served me well

Those two doubles are very tempting though. And I already have Djourou. Hmm, thanks I'll consider.

After lots of umming and ahhing, I decided that he's such a safe option to fallback on practically any gameweek, he's still worth it at 5.2m. All the other options I looked at were either more /too expensive, or had varying levels of uncertainty around their place in the side.

Exactly what I was thinking. He'll probably leave for Gordon eventually when Sunderland's fixture ease up.

I would buy him even at 5.5 - biggest reason being that Brum have the easiest remaining schedule

i had foster from the start and sold when he was about 5 cause of the shi^ty fixtures

I'll prob get him back in the coming weeks since gordons fixtures are getting crap

5.2 is still a grand price for him

As long as Everton knock them out it should be okay. It's all Chelsea's fault for needlessly calling off the game a day in advance anyway.

Thoughts on my wild card team?

    Foster, Kingston
    Kolarov, Djourou, Rafael, Terry, Simpson

my initial concerns would be, Terry, Yaya and Possibly Kolarov and slightly Djourou

      bout it

Getting impatient with Carroll on my bench week in week out, odem looks lively every single time he plays

I'm almost ready to kick Kolarov out and buy Elmo again, just to prove a point (and get more points). It's like a bad joke, but it's true.

Actually I've been ready for a while but still haven't played my WC. Not that Elmo is the best choice but he's still much more productive than Kolarov ๐Ÿ™
