Suarez, Sturridge and Keane get amongst the goals to help mark their debuts with victories. Liverpool keep the wins and clean sheets racking up. Kolarov comes good, Newcastle face a striker crisis and Charlie Adam in “No Bonus Points” shocker!

Mark Schwarzer made an immediate return to the Fulham first-team after coming back from Asian Cup duties, taking his place in goal as David Stockdale dropped to the bench. Chris Baird recovered from illness and took his place at left-back, with Carlos Salcido- his replacement in the recent FA Cup game with Spurs- joining Stockdale as a sub. Damien Duff grabbed the game’s only goal, as Fulham made it four clean sheets and five wins in their last five home games. Duff got the 3 Bonus Points and Moussa Dembele again stood out, picking up 2 Bonus Points for his trickery.

Alan Pardew’s first post-Carroll line-up featured Leon Best and Shola Ameobi up front together, in a 4-4-2 formation. A collision with Steve Sidwell, however, meant Ameobi had to leave the proceedings with just 15 minutes on the clock, and the injury has been confirmed as a fractured cheekbone, that should see the player out of action for in the region of four to six weeks. Newcastle’s terrible week just got worse, with a limp display at Craven Cottage ending in 1-0 defeat and, following the departure of Andy Carroll, are really struggling for any sort of real quality up front right now.

New signing Obafemi Martins missed out altogether for Birmingham, with Curtis Davies starting on the bench for Alex McLeish’s side. Liam Ridgewell returned to his usual left-back berth as Martin Jiranek took his place at centre-half. David Bentley picked up the 3 FPL Bonus Points for an impressive all-round display; he also bagged an assist as Nikola Zigic got on the end of one of his free-kicks to make it 1-1. Top-scorer Craig Gardner denied City a win late in the game with a penalty and after the game, was confirmed as the club’s number one spot-kick taker by McLeish. With Birmingham’s upcoming double game week 27 (STK, NEW) the midfield pair could be worth a look, priced at £5.7m and £4.9m respectively.

Roberto Mancini was without flu-stricken Yaya Toure for the trip to St Andrews, with brother Kolo on the bench. Jerome Boateng started at right-back and Micah Richards showed his versatility by moving into the centre of defence – Mancini’s again demonstrating just why there’s little security for Fantasy Managers amongst City’s back four. Richards was stretchered off after half an hour after colliding with team mate Nigel De Jong and went to hospital with concussion. De Jong himself suffered an ankle problem and was also replaced.

Carlos Tevez recovered from a back strain to take his place up front and wasted little time in getting amongst the goals, scoring after just 4 minutes. FFScout favourite Aleksander Kolarov finally delivered the points following weeks of promising attacking play, scoring a cracking free-kick to vindicate those Fantasy Managers who have kept the faith.

Post-match, Roberto Mancini blamed himself for the disappointing result, going on to say:

“If we don’t play well I blame myself..we can’t concede two goals every game, we must do something and we must play better. We played well for the first 50 minutes and then we forgot to play. I should change something. We must think about improving – we should try to play football again, because in the last few weeks we’ve forgotten this.”

Whether this results in personnel or tactical changes remains to be seen, but with City facing three exceptional home fixtures in their next four (WBA, mun, FUL, WIG) Fantasy Managers will still be expecting more-than-decent returns from these games.

Kenny Dalglish named six recognised defenders in the Liverpool starting line-up for the visit of Stoke. Dirk Kuyt took his place as the lone striker, with new signing Luis Suarez beginning the night as a sub. A change of formation to 3-5-1-1 saw young right-back Martin Kelly start as a right wing-back, adding more attacking potential to his prospective points. Suarez needed just 16 minutes to get involved in the goals, being (kindly) credited with scoring which could easily be chalked up as an Andy Wilkinson own goal.

Raul Meireles seems to be boosted more than any other Liverpool player since the arrival of Kenny Dalglish; playing just behind the striker, he’s now scored 3 goals in 5 games under King Kenny, having failed to score in any of his league 16 games under Roy Hodgson. Liverpool’s 2-0 win is their third clean sheet on the trot.

Matt Etherington was surprisingly benched by Tony Pulis for the trip to Anfield. The Stoke boss made five changes from the FA Cup win at Wolves, with Asomir Begovic replacing Tomas Sorenson in goal, despite the Dane’s penalty save against Mick McCarthy’s side. Begovic grabbed the 3 Bonus Points for a great display between the sticks and, priced at £4.3m, is another potential bargain for double game week 27, with Stoke’s two fixtures being (bir, ars).

Harry Redknapp used a 4-4-2 formation for Spurs’ visit to Blackburn, with injuries meaning Jermain Jenas was partnered by Wilson Palacios in central midfield. At the back, Alan Hutton was replaced by Vedran Corluka at right-back and William Gallas stepped in for the suspended Michael Dawson. Rafael Van der Vaart played on the right of midfield and grabbed his first assist in four games, crossing for Peter Crouch to nod home what turned out to be the winner after just 3 minutes. Heurelho Gomes made 9 saves to repel Blackburn time and again but received no Bonus Points; instead it was Aaron Lennon who grabbed the maximum 3 Bonus Points, with Jenas just behind on 2.

Jason Roberts took his place in the Blackburn starting XI, taking the place of injured Roque Santa Cruz up front. Ryan Nelson returned to partner Chris Samba at the heart of defence following his Asian Cup exertions. Morten Gamst Pederson was benched for the hosts, and although the Norwegian came on just after the hour mark, his efforts failed to make a difference.

Despite the transfer deadline day disappointment, Charlie Adam retained his place in midfield for Blackpool and grabbed a goal directly from a corner, following a failed West Ham clearance. Andy Reid made his debut for Ian Holloway’s side but Blackpool looked out of sorts and, with one win and six defeats in their last seven games, are being dragged deep into a relegation battle. Holloway looks likely to rotate his squad in the upcoming games, going on his post-match comments.

Robbie Keane made his bow as a West Ham player and the on-loan Spurs man needed less than 45 minutes to open his account for Avram Grant’s team. Victor Obinna continued his recent goalscoring form; after netting a hat-trick in the FA Cup, the on-loan Inter man grabbed two goals and an assist, a performance that saw him pick up the 3 Bonus Points, for a fantastic 16 point haul. Wayne Bridge chalked up his second assist in just three games and is starting to make a big impact for the Hammers, who are now off the bottom of the table

Bolton manager Owen Coyle brought Gary Cahill back into the first XI, dropping new signing David Wheater to accomodate the centre half. Chung-Yong Lee returned from the Asian Cup and was instantly re-installed in the Trotters team. The front pairing of Johan Elmander and Kevin Davies once again failed to find their early-season form and it took the intervention of on-loan debut boy Daniel Sturridge to fire Coyle’s side to victory right at the death. This was their first win in six games and Sturridge grabbed the maximum 3 Bonus Points for his match-winning contribution.

Mick McCarthy’s side offered little offensively at the Reebok and now sit bottom of the table following their last-ditch defeat. New loan signing Jamie O’Hara came off the bench with quarter of an hour left but was unable to influence events. Kevin Doyle battled hard up front for the visitors and was awarded 2 Bonus Points for his performance.

Not really. He's merely asking the question but acknowledging the fact there is alot of rotation, and he could get a response from someone who has a bit more information than himself.

Then why the apparent need to deal in absolutes?

Knowbody knows the answer to the first question, and in acknowledging rotation then that muhc seems obvious. Talking about reasons for rotation etc. is of course a valid discussion but that doesn't seem to be the question?

That might seem pedantic but it's the wording that i can't understand. It's like 'who will score more this week?' kinda questions. Seems completely in contrast to the very essence of the game - probability.

I can't even decide which defenders even look that good for 27 beyond brum. I'm gonna double up on them as it is, though there is uncertainty creeping in there too, so 3 would be a no go, and the blank in 28 has ruled that out anyway.

Arsenal looks good but i'm tripling on their attacking players.

Rest of the doubles look wholly unappealing to me so i might end up playing Walker and Coleman.

Seems a bit wet if i've used a WC on it! Tempted by Kelly for that week maybe and get rid of Rafael for a few weeks.

    What are others looking at?

I think it's impossible to find a defence that lets you play 3 great defenders for GW 26, 27 and 28. You'll have to either swap some defender in the middle of those fix, or play one average one at some stage.

        I'm almost there i think.

Lookign at Kolarov, RJohnson, Walker and Coleman - which give me great options for 28 and 26. It's just that Villa and Everton don't have great fixtures for 27.

Rafael is the other option as it stands.

I know Birmingham have been poor recently, but look at the fixtures they've had!

Fixtures look a lot better now. Just depends how low in confidence they are and how much they miss Dann I guess.

Having said that, I haven't watched them play for some time.

    Here's a question re: keepers.

Szczensy has obviously come onto the radar and for me it is a choice between him and Foster. Problem is that the keepers of top sides have to keep clean sheets to be equal to the likes of Foster. This is due to their lack of save points. In addition, Foster has two doubles coming up. I'm tempted to double up on the Birmingham defence (ie Johnson) for the first one but this might be something which I'll regret, particularly as I'm also considering Bentley which would be three Bham which in addition to two Arse and a Spurs makes GW28 tricky.

    Anyone have any thoughts?

Entirely depends on how you view Birmingham's prospects, I've took the gamble that they will be poor and have completely ignored them in my wildcard side. I think Everton will do much better until the end of the season and so have doubled with Howard and Coleman.
Of course if Birmingham turn out to do well, and Everton shite then I'm buggered. 🙂

I'm WCing next week and I'm getting Foster, R. Johnson and probably Bentley. (I was looking at Ridgewell for the third spot, but they aren't defending well enough, he isn't getting any headers in on goal and he doesn't make many crosses as a full-back, so I might go Kelly instead.)

I'm also keeping VDV and getting two Arsenal, so we'll be in the same boat, for what that's worth. It'll probably mean a 4pt hit if Arsenal v Spurs isn't re-arranged for GW28, but two of those are covered by the playing points, so I think it's worth a gamble.

I'm planning my next week WC and considering keepers too. More and more, I feel not so sure if BIR will be able to keep CS on that DGW on 27th.

Their last CS was since Nov when they did surprise jobs against Man City and Chelsea. I'm now leaning towards Szczesny + R.Johnson as my WC choice.

        Anyway, still thinking..

OK, So my masterplan is to WC for GW27, then use my 1 free to get 11 men playing for 28. What do you reckon:

    Foster, VdS

    Simpson/Walker/Coleman/Koscielny

    Nani/Fabs/VdV/Eherington/Adam

    Tevez/RVP/Odimwinge

Only thing bothering me is no Chelsea coverage, and whether RVP and Fabs will play both games

RVP and Fabs are unlikely to play both games, but that shouldn't worry you, they can easily outscore anyone in a single game.

No Chelsea coverage is not a problem at this stage.

I prefer some other mid options to Ethers and I have no clue what you only have 4 defenders 😀 Don't like Walker, because Cuellar is better and don't like Kosciely, because he's expensive for a defender.

Not a bad position to be in - I would say Tevez and Young are both good options, but a better chance of Young running riot at BPL than Tevez at MUN - so you're probably doing the right thing.

    Mark Ronson is really dull.

It's finals day at the chem lab.
Your instructor has placed on your table 13 numbered beakers containing colorless and odorless liquids.
"The contents of one and only one beaker are slightly acidic," he tells you, "the others are neutral; they have a pH of exactly 7."

He also hands you four clean flasks, labeled A, B, C and D.
Put anything you like from the beakers into these flasks, and I'll test all four of them for acidity.
When I give you those results, you must then tell me which of the 13 beakers is acidic.

You never got an easier A.

Its like Die hard 3 all over again!

Do you need to test all at once or can you mix em up in between tests? If you can keep mixing then its pretty easy....
You just split into 2 groups of 6 and a spare then disregard the half that didnt result in an acidic result (6 beakers), then repeat until you're left with one. If neither set of 6 is acid you know its the spare.

Umm, think I got it. You just set it up so that you will always get a unique set of results depending on the acidic beaker.

So you put the beakers into the flasks as follows:

              A: 1,2,3,5,6,7,11
              B: 1,2,4,5,8,9,12
              C: 1,3,4,6,8,10,13
              D: 2,3,4,7,9,10

That ensures that your resulting combination of acidic flasks will always be unique:

              1: ABC
              2: ABD
              3: ACD
              4: BCD
              5: AB
              6: AC
              7: AD
              8: BC
              9: BD
              10: CD
              11: A
              12: B
              13: C

You could have 14 beakers and just put 14 in flask D.

That's not even a proper chemistry test. It's more a test of logic.

Split tubes into two groups 1 (7 tubes) and 2 (6 tubes)

Poor small amount of each tube from group 2 into A. Get teacher to test it.

If ph neutral discard all of group 2 if ph acidic then discard group 1.

With remaining tubes repeat process, splitting into two groups then test in B....continue proceess with remaining clean tubes until find acidic one by deduction...

      ...simples.

Doesn't sound like you particularly need it. Arguments for and against wildcard now:

      FOR
      Two free transfers for 28

      AGAINST
International break may result in injuries

Don't be worrying about any price rise shite, pretty irrelevant at this stage.

It's preferable yes! If you can do it so you only need only 1 transfer or none that'd be great BUT if you have a big score in 26 or 27 then I wouldn't worry too much about spending 4 points if you can make the right transfer. There's still plenty of time for catching up

Probably, but also look at it this way. If you have good players playing the double that is just the same as playing one game in each of GW27 and 28. So if you only field 10 in GW 28, but had a few doublers, you'll still probably find that your players will have played more games over 27 and 28 than if you play it safe and go for a couple of single GW players in GW27.

God, I think that was as clear as mud!

Here it is gents.. THE (probably highly flawed) PLAN!

    GW26
    Hart
    Djourou/Samba/Bardsley
    Dempsey/Fabregas/Adam/Nani
    DJCampbell/RvP/Tevez(c)
    Bench: Foster, Bale, Kelly, Jara

    GW27 (Wildcard) - 11x DGW players
    Foster
    R.Johnson/Djourou/Huth
    Fabregas/Adam/Bentley/VdV/Barton
    RvP/Odemwingie
    Bench: Hart, Kelly, Tevez, Coleman

I'd bring in Nani for Bentley for GW28, but that would still leave me with only 9 players (albeit with decent fixtures) for GW28.

Any major problems with this apart from the GW28 situation?

is it worth the money lost on having nani, WCing him out and then bringing him in a week later? You need to devise a plan where you only need 1 or two transfers for GW28 to field a full XI. If you only need one, then you can WC GW27, if you need two, then go ahead and WC this week. Otherwise your DGWers are going to be cancelled out by your 0 GWers or the 4 point hits you need to make to replace them.

I'd only be losing .1 on Nani, but I know what you mean with the 0 GW'ers possibly harming me, but on the other hand even a 9 player team for that week doesnt look so bad (on paper, ofcourse! :D)

This would be my 9 man GW28 team

        Hart(FUL)
        Kelly(WIG) Huth(WBA) Coleman(SUN)

there's no safely assuming any city defender. Even with the goal, he was/is poor defensively and in my amateur opinion, city is better off with a more defensive minded defender in his place, and let their attacking options take care of the offense.
