Mick McCarthy’s side go into their double Gameweek fresh from shattering Man United’s unbeaten record with last weekend’s 2-1 victory at Molineux. That fine result and performance again demonstrated how Wolves have raised their game against the big sides this season, having already earned 1-0 wins over Chelsea and Liverpool. It’s against relegation rivals and mid-table mediocrity that Wolves have struggled; that’s the reason behind their lowly position in the table.

Despite confidence gleaned from the United win, Fantasy Managers are unlikely to give more than passing glance at what’s on offer from McCarthy’s squad. With a trip to the Emirates coming this weekend however, one can’t help but wonder if Wolves can capitilise on a fragile Arsenal defence, with Arsene Wenger’s side likely to have one eye on their Champions League with Barcelona four day’s later.

The daunting trip to North London is followed by a Black Country derby match against managerless rivals West Brom – a totally unpredictable scenario if ever there was one.

The Prospects

Wolves have the worst away record in the division with just a single win, 9 goals scored and 24 conceded. That makes pretty chilling reading going into two consecutive away matches.

Their one victory did however come against Liverpool at Anfield, a result that was surely a significant nail in Roy Hodgson’s coffin and a victory that Wolves will surely cling to as they approach the clash with the Gunners. Wolves have lost the four away trips that followed the Liverpool win, conceding 10 goals in the process. The omens don’t look good for the visit to Arsenal then, given that Wenger’s side have won 4 of their last 5 home matches and have averaged 2 goals a game in that spell.

Arsenal’s Champions League ambitions may well be a distraction and we could see rest and rotation in practice. Wenger could still field the likes of Nicklas Bendtner and Marouane Chamakh however – players who will be eager to impress and who will be expected to have the talent to inflict damage on a suspect Wolves back four.

The derby match with West Brom eight days on surely offers a better prospect. Goals look likely here, with the Baggies having scored 10 and conceded 10 in their previous 5 home matches. West Brom will face West Ham the week before and much will depend on their confidence following that encounter, plus of course, the impact of a new manager – should he be in place by February 20.

One factor to consider before losing total interest in Wolves as a prospect – they are one of three sides who follow their double fixture with a home match. Wolves will take on Blackpool at Molineux in Gameweek 28, a fixture that promises attacking returns for those brave enough to take the gamble.

The Likely Lads

Matt Jarvis has been Wolves’ biggest Fantasy earner this season, but his simmering form has completely wilted of late and his assist for George Elokobi’s goal against United was his first Fantasy points since Gameweek 15. A return to form? Maybe, butNenad Milijas looks the stronger goal threat from midfield. The Serbian international regularly contributes a couple of goal attempts a game, as our Members can see via their OPTA stats. He is also a major factor at direct free-kicks.

Kevin Doyle is as close as you get to a form player amongst McCarthy’s squad – his 2 goals and 4 Bonus Points in his last 4 league starts hints that, if anyone is to emerge from the double Gameweek with profit, it will be the Irishman. Whether Fantasy Managers will find room for the 5.0 investment up front is another matter entirely.

While potential looks limited going forward, defensively Wolves look a bleak prospect. Any investment in this area would need to hope for attacking points, and with Jody Craddock still sidelined through injury and Kevin Foley also fighting back to fitness, there’s no obvious candidate. Ronald Zubar has posed the biggest goal threat of late, although it was George Elokobi who proved decisive in the win over United.

Cheeky Punt

Jamie O’Hara has arrived at Molineux on loan and, although he’s short of match fitness, he chipped in with a goal attempt on target against United and 2 blocked efforts in a 58 minute appearance. With 2 goals, 4 assists and an impressive 25 Bonus Points to his name at Portsmouth last season, O’Hara has pedigree and could be a factor over the two games.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I'm currently playing Tevez. I may change my mind when I realize how crazy it is to bench one of the highest scorers in the game at home. Kinda goes against the unwritten rules

One has to sit on the bench this week. Who should it be?

Got stuck at the bottom of the last page. Sorry for the re-post.

So after this GW27, I’ll be stuck with Fabs, RvP, VdV and Djourou. I’ll have to field 10 in GW28 without a transfer.

I’ll be the first to say that Fabs is almost must have, but would it be crazy to sell him after this DGW? Probably for someone like Cahill and give me extra funds to upgrade Odem who will be useless after this week. Thoughts? Thx!

I'm going to have Fabs & Walcott for GW27 and look to bring in Cahill for GW28, with one of the ARS midfielders leaving my squad.

If Fabregas fails once more to get a decent points haul and Walcott does well, he may well be leaving for Cahill which will allow me extra funds to upgrade Odemwingie.

If he does well, Walcott will straight swap for Cahill.

Thanks. I think it's high time we realize that Fabs isn't justifying his price, similar to when Drogba & Malouda stopped scoring. If he doesn't do well I'm def trading him, especially since not many teams in my mini league have him.

Do you mean swapping RVP and Tevez around? If so yes will lose value but I cannot afford to not have Tevez for FUL & WIG. Keep getting burned by rivals having him for easy home games and captaining him.

GW 27 - VdV to Walcott
    GW27 - Djournou to Huth
    GW28 - Walcott to Cahill
    GW29 - Toure to Bentley

    Camzy ,

    1. What u doin bout djouru .. My reading of the situation is that he will miss wolves and play barcelona and might make the 2nd week of the dgw.. I am thinking of playing djouru with evatt 1st sub

    2. Same with vdv think he will miss Sunderland , make black pool but has a missing fixture gw 28

    3. Really want to get walcott in but I have to sell djouru to do it and it would mean taking a pt hit as I have already done berba to odemwingie .. Do u think not having walkout this gw could hurt even tho I have CBS and rvp?

    4. Doubling up on brume with footer and Johnson?

    Team ATM is

    Foster
    Kelly djouru huth
    Vdv nani Adam fabs
    Tevez rvp odemwingie

    Subs evatt Coleman yayatoure

I have used only one of my frees , if vdv is passed fit I can roll one over to next week to get cahill and kolarov

Your team was uncannily similar to mine.

I wasn't brave enough to go Berbatov > Odemwingie though. He plays midweek for Nigeria and his form is just not good enough. Getting players in who are off form has hurt me so badly in the past.

      1. You're spot on.
      2. VdV is gold. I would lose a lot on him and considering his decent fixtures after GW 28, I'm keeping.
      3. Wouldn't do it. Selling your team balance for the double gameweeks and a point hit will be unlikely to pay off. Might pay off for the one week but your team will be a mess to fix up later.
      4. I plan on doubling Foster, Johnson. Either for Djourou or Kelly depending on injury. Worried if it's Kelly though seeing as I'll need two transfers to get a fieldable XI GW 28.

Hmmm I knew odemwingie was playing midweek but it was about a .2 swing in value for me , I was losing value on bergs and the rise on odemwingie...

I am looking at odemwingie for more than just the double.. With a new gaffer coming in I am confident west broom will go on a mini run.. Jus praying odemwingie doesn't get injured tonight

I think Kelly is fine , just one of those excuses to get out of midweek friendly

So looks like you are gonna go into the gw walcott less like me... Rvp captain or fabs?

Tough. Think I'll probably go with the herd and (c) RVP. He's looked super sharp, and there's stats on him scoring or assisting every game on average when playing for Arsenal. It's also tough to drop someone on really good form.

Reckon he can cope with the 3 games in a week too. It's not that bad really.

Hmm like i said below i wouldnt fancy getting R Johnson if you already have Foster.
It'll leave you with Johnson, VDV, Fabregas, Djourou and RVP. Which 2 would you transfer out before GW28 to get a full XI. Djourou yes. RVP, Fabregas and VDV no, their forthcoming fixtures are too tasty and it'd be a waste of trnasfers to sell & buy back. RJohnson you'd want to keep for GW29.
Also, if one of your other players picks up an injury/suspension during gw27 you're foooked.

You're right. I'm worried about that big time.

About the captaincy i think i'll be boring and play it safe with Fabregas. More likely to play both, particularly with Nasri out. Though RVP is tempting...

    Begovic, Foster

    Nani, Adam, Fabregas, Walcott, VDV

Half considering VDV (lose .5m) -> Etherington this week for dgw and nice gw28 fixture.

Definitely doing Walcott -> Cahill next week

IMO Fabs Walcott and RVP is overkill. I'd want some Arsenal defensive coverage, their fixtures are outstanding and I believe the 4-4 was a blip after a run of clean sheets. Would recommend getting Sczeny in as Djorou has fitness worries. Then upgrade Simpson to R Johnson.

Also I wouldnt do the VDV to Etherington switch. His 2nd fixture of the DGW is Arsenal away where Stoke will probably hardly have the ball. And Pennant seems to be taking a lot of corners and free kicks now.

Had considered Szcezny & R Johnson for Foster & Simpson alright but it'd leave me 4 outfield players in Rjohnson, RVP, VDV and Fabregas, none of who play gw28 and none of who i'd want to part with. So im kinda set on having Foster as Brum cover. This way i have qualms shipping Walcott out.

Don't really feel Arsenal defensive cover is important, their attacking potential is where the points are and 2 home games Walcott should do well (if he plays both)

Probably won't get Etherington. Have also considered Nolan and bought him before he rose in price (havent bothered slotting Fabregas in yet since his rise is days away)

I wouldn't rely on the FPL's decision not to count that 1 yellow card in the Liverpool game in gw22. The official site shows Adam with 9, and the match report on the official site still shows Adam with a yellow card in that game. I know Mark was trying to get a definitive answer, but I would proceed with caution in the meantime.

Does anyone around have overall ranks adding up to less than 10000 for the current season & the past 2 seasons? I am at the 30000 mark due to a bad year last season.

Zigic is an appauling football player.
What games Crouch plays seems as easy as predicting the lottery.
Pavluychenko appears to be out of favour.

I'd sooner have Odemwinge, Campbell or even Doyle.
If you can stretch to Defoe, he's been rubbish but he's the sort of player who'll grab a hatrick against Blackpool.

Why are you so worried not to field full eleven in gw?
I'll prob have to go with ten men, but then again last week I had Coleman (1 point), Vidic (1 point) and berba (2 points) in my team, so it's not like it will make a huge difference if you have 10 or 11 players playing.....

Or maybe I am wrong and will be really pissed after gw28.

i agree its not worth worry too much, ill probably field 10 players but im not going to take a 4 point hit to field 11 when i'd have to make another few subs to get my team back to wat i want it, all because i could only field 10 players for 1 week.

i guess it depends on the circumstances, if u take a 4 point hit but want that player long term then its probably worth it

nothing wrong with a little fretting! it's a better gamble taking point hits if you're going to get a "0" anyway as your halfway there if your player plays. but the point is well taken in terms of overall score as it's a long season.

of course, a different analysis all together if you're focus is on head-2-head or a cup.

    Morning peeps,

Quick question - is it worth a 4 point hit this week to do Djourou -> a sub 4.9m double GW defender who also plays in GW28 (Simpson, Enrique, Evatt)? My 2 free transfers this week are likely to be Rooney & N'Zog -> Wingie & Fabs. Team is linked. I need to do a keeper swap in GW28 in order to field a GK, so the 4 point hit is needed to field 11 in GW28...unless I rethink getting Fabs in...

    Thanks!

In terms of having 11 players available in GW28, does

      a) VDV & N'Zog -> Walcott & Ethers make more sense than
      b) Rooney & N'Zog -> Wingie & Fabs

If i do b) then i'd have to take a 4 point hit in GW28 to field 11...

Hard to argue against Downing given Villa's run of fixtures.

Depending on what you mean by short-term, Liverpool and Meireles for Wigan and West Ham in gw27 and 28 is worthy of consideration if you can break away from the double gameweek teams.

        a) Brunt
        b) Barton

just looking at Stoke for the write up on their double, and I've got some concerns about Etherington. he hit a much more severe dry spell in October and then rebounded with a great stretch, but seems to be simmering at the moment as well. i've also noted the high frequency with which he's been subbed over the past couple of months. you can count on him for 60, but not so sure about 90.
