There’s been a lot of talk concerning Chalie Adam’s yellow card count – a significant concern as he goes into a double fixture in the forthcoming Gameweek. While some sources state that the Blackpool skipper sits on 8 bookings for the season, today we confirmed with the FA that Adam is in fact on 9 bookings and therefore just a single yellow card away from a 2-match ban. Potentially this could see him miss Blackpool’s second fixture of the Gameweek against Spurs, if Adam collects a booking against Villa.

Despite confirmation from the FA that Adam did sit on 9 bookings, we have gone one step further this evening in the light of further doubt concerning this situation, and received confirmation from Blackpool’s Secretary Matt Williams. He has confirmed to us first hand that Adam is on 9 bookings and one yellow away from a ban.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Was hoping for a brief appearance for Odemwingie tonight but he played 84 mins of Nigeria's friendly Vs Sierra Leone. No indication of any injury, seemed tactical when subbed but with a long flight from Lagos and a game Saturday, a little concerned on his total participation over 90 mins.

    Barton, Brunt, Nani, Fabregas, Adam
    Tevez, RVP (c) (Berbatov)

Apart from the double GW players in the forward section, I have to bench either Nani, Tevez or Berbatov. I think I'll go with Berbatov, what do you think?

33% of FPL players still own Bale.

Does anyone here still have him - if so, why!?

Does it therefore follow that 33% of FPL players are inactive (or such infrequent visitors to the site that they may as well be)?

I think readership on this site is alot higher, aren't there like 2,000 members or something? but it still a small percentage, prob around 3-5% of all players. With around 30% of those teams now inactive and prob another 30% who nip in now and then. With prob 20% players casual and make their teams on Monday morning and don't think any more about it and then the remaining 20% playing seriously, checking prices, making transfer plans, looking at fixtures.

Most people here should expect to be in teh top 250,000 at least, IMO

Hmmm, everyone seems to be very happy about Chris Hughton going to West Brom. Time for jamsiep to start.........

Is he actually that good as a manager? He inherited a squad that was far too good for the Championship, and so got promoted with ease, and then had Newcastle 11th/12th with a side including 'the best English midfielder this season' Jack Wilshere Joey Barton, as well as 35 million pound man Andy Carroll... Since he was 'nonsensically' sacked, Newcastle have moved up in the league despite having Tiote and Carroll out of action for a period of time.

He didn't strike me as the brightest chap when he was on the ITV FA Cup highlights show either...

        Hello Alan,

Why has db been saying similar things? I've only just logged on.... Anyway, I said at the time that sacking Hughton wasn't the scandal that everyone seemed to think it was. With the side he had, having Newcastle at 12th wasn't so much of an achievement in my opinion, and since he left they've done even better.

Hughton may well be a very good manager, it's hard to tell right now, but the fact that he got Newcastle promoted and safe from relegation, with a good side, doesn't necessarily make him one as far as I'm concerned.

On ITV he genuinely had nothing interesting to say and didn't appear to be particularly knowledgeable about the game.... At least that's the impression I got.

      completely shambolic analysis.

Hughton came in when NUFC were at their lowest point in years, a team completely decimated by relegation, with a lot of players who were out of form and unfit, and a lot who didn't want to play for NUFC. Hughton sold the deadwood, brought in some new faces and completely revamped NUFC. Players like Nolan and Barton had been completely written off after terrible performances in the premiership, but Hughton stuck by them and got them playing to a standard that not many could have envisaged. Lest you forget that when we went down there were cries that we would "do a leeds" or a charlton or a southampton. Hughton, and only Hughton, was the reason that we came back, stronger than we could have imagined. Lest you also not forget that Ashley had wanted to sell Carroll, and had it not have been for Hughton sticking by him through the bad times, he wouldn't be a "£35 million pound man" now.

Okay, you're obviously in a better position to comment than me - I didn't keep much track of Newcastle's progress in the Championship - but a quick search online tells me that the only notable signings Hughton made whilst you were in the Championship were Simpson, Williamson and Routledge - all of which are poor players IMO - and Owen, Geremi were the only two players to leave.... Hardly a total 'revamp'.

Nolan was hardly written off as a Premier League player! He was the heartbeat of Allardyce's Bolton side that qualified for Europe, so again, another player who was far too good for Newcastle. And Barton is, and always has been, an excellent footballer...

Maybe Hughton was entirely responsible for getting the best out of the players who failed the season before, but without knowing exactly what went on behind the scenes, making that assumption may not be correct.

The media like him, and he's always described as a nice guy - which I'm sure he is - but I think that lends itself to his true worth as a manager being overstated.

Owen, Geremi, Martins, Duff, Viduka, Bassong, Beye, all left after relegation. All for greener grass, none of whom, aside from arguably Bassong, have found any.

He also brought in Lovenkrands and Harewood who did a job in the championship, as did Routledge and Williamson.

He has since brought in Tiote for £1.5 million, and Ben Arfa for £5 million. 2 fantastic signings.

The fact is that nufc were written off and supposedly doomed to fail, but in no small part due to hughton we didn't, and all NUFC fans will always remember him as a fantastic manager

Also don’t forget that Hughton transformed a traditionally jovial NUFC backline into the meanest in the championship and one of the more solid in the premiership.

Really annoyingly the moderation filter has blocked my post, but I agree with what you're saying.

But not to nitpick and give Titisiep any ammo or anything but Tiote was £3.5m and Ben Arfa was signed by Pardew (he made that his number one priority as well as new contracts for Carroll, Enrique and Barton).

Were any of those players ever realistically going to stick around in the Championship though? Aside from maybe Bassong, who like you say has moved onto better things...

Never sure how much praise can be credited to the manager when a signing comes off, like signing Tiote signing. Scouts etc. will more than likely have advised Hughton to sign him and all he had to do was give it the go ahead.

Who was writing Newcastle off? Virtually everyone expected you guys to come straight back up....

It was Hughton that scouted Tiote under JFK's stewardship, and it was Hughton who persuaded the board to sign him. That deal was all Hughton.
Many people were writing us off, lost count of the amount of times I heard the word 'Leeds'

                +1

Leeds, Southampton, nowadays Middlesbrough...it's not as easy as we made it look.

      I'd agree (and I'm a Spurs fan).

      Di Matteo was far better.

also don't forget that Hughton transformed a traditionally jovial NUFC backline into the meanest in the championship and one of the more solid in the premiership

It wasn't so much the squad he inherited it was the fact that we had no morale, no team spirit, no fight or anything else. He got a bunch of ego's functioning and playing for each other.
He also dealt with a number of high profile exits.
Add to that he was the one who scouted and persuaded the board to sign Tiote (one of the better signings any club has made this season).
Newcastle were all over the place when he took over, he brought much needed stability both on and off the field.
I really rate him as a manager and I think he'll do well at WBA.

Sorry for the slow response, was mid game on FIFA 🙂

So is everyone just gonna risk Adam and hope he's not booked against Villa...?

Injuries and potential bans are quite grating to me... first VDV and Djourou, and now Adam...

Planned for 9 DGW players... it could now potentially only be 6...

Jonathan Woodgate has played his first 90 minutes of football since returning to fitness in a Spurs XI friendly with QPR at Spurs Lodge on Wednesday.
