Mick McCarthy and Fernando Torres were the Gameweek 26 headline-makers as Wolves brought Man United’s unbeaten run to an end and the £50m ex-Liverpool forward made a miserable start to life at Stamford Bridge, thanks to Kenny Dalglish’s revitalised Merseysiders. Here’s our regular Members article, casting an eye over the weekend’s OPTA stand-outs, ahead of the upcoming double Gameweek…

Where does FPL get the up to date scores from?

E.g. do they have a guy at each game totting up the assists etc or does this all come from an official body that already do this? Like opta or someone?

Do they have thier own bonus point judges? And are these guys paid to go to every game?

Assists, goals etc come from Press Association data. Bonus point judges are Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, David Blunkett, Andrea Bocelli and Harvey Price.

Best cheaper third striker for the mid-term going forward?

Best? Zigic? Obinna? Rodallega? Campbell? Carroll once back from injury? Stretch to Gyan?

        For the long-term though?

I'm considering going cheaper at my third striker spot to give me money to bolster my other positions... So if I invest my money elsewhere, it's harder to go back, so this needs to be someone I'll keep in my team for a while...

It means 'in the medium term', it's not specific as to what the medium term is, but more useful than 'going forward'.

In this context, mid-term presumably means 4 or 5 gameweeks. What exactly does 'going forward' mean in this context? We're hardly likely to be 'going backwards', are we?

It suggests that you want them in and have no plans to get them out as of yet, but aren't ruling that out at some point in the future. Not jsut the here and now, it's looking at more than that, but not bounded (that being the important point).

Mid-term and Short-term imply an expiry date in the not too distant future, long term implies you don't want them. Neither accurately capture alot of situations.

                  Open ended, so...

    Hi Guys,

What is peoples take on having 3 untd plyrs? I know their potential DGW is vs Chelsea. But still, they are the leaders..And Chelsea are even worse with Torres(everton have a decent chance of beating them in the FA cup, i think)...

I noticed there are quite a few on here who are ditchin Berba/Vidic/Rafael. Any good reason to do so?
Their last encounter was 0-0 and extremely boring, but at home United will surely want to demolish their neighbouring rivals..

It makes a difference if you're wildcarding or not i guess but I'm thinking of keeping them.(Berbs/Vidic/Nani)

So why does your team say you support Liverpool then?

Your right Torres is totally rubbish, utterly useless what has he ever done in football, Chelsea should have him put down and made into glue.

Man City, Wigan away and maybe Chelsea away, Liverpool away. That takes us up until 19th March.

For defenders surely there are better shprt term options, attackers too. Nani is the one really worth keeping hold of, Berbatov/Rooney can't be trusted to perform every week.

This is for ppl on their wildcard mainly who can transfer value all at once and then feed back in Rafael/Vidic/Berba afterwards. I got rid of Vid especially to spread the wealth for better DGW options.

I actually like that team! looks good apart from Djourou.. I defo wouldnt do VDV - Walcott anyhow seen as you have fabs and van persie and ars dont play GW28.

Rooney to Odemwingie is a 50/50 call. Utd have a potential double GW in 28 and Rooney could do something against City but Odemwingie has a lovely double GW this week.. It really is 50/50!

How about this for a wildcard team?

    Foster
    Kelly, Coleman, Huth
    Bentley, Fabregas, Meireles, Nani, Walcott
    Odemwingie, RVP

    Subs: Robinson, Tevez, Kolorov, Walker

    2.2 left

    Suggetions welcome 🙂

Ello mullenlad... still similar to mine. I've got Young over Nani for a coupla weeks and I'm going Vela over Odem. Keepers are different too. Interesting... think we both had Adam yesterday and we've both gone for Merieles as a replacemet...

Aye hes just too much of a risk to keep seeing as 4 teams won't be playing in GW27. The struggle would have been to field 11 players in GW27 if he did get suspended.

Was going to go with Cahill but realised I would be shooting myself in the foot if Everton caused a shock at Stamford Birdge.

Not too sure about Nolan anymore as I feel most of his points were related to penalties or carroll, altho I have not looked into it statiscally.

If they were priced the same, i would still go for nolan probably, but as things stand, barton looks better value for money imo

Rather than ask the question again myself - So what do people think?
Bartons on Pens and a mini BP magnet - Nolan may well be playing as a 2nd striker.

Thanks all. I'm not fussed about cost really, will be using my original WC for GW28 anyway so could replace Nolan with Barton then if £ an issue. Barton pens has made me think about it, but I still think Nolan is the better option.

I'd seriously love a new podcast to listen to right now, I just listened to episode 26 for the first time,

Between them, Granville and Mark called results, made great player suggestions and trends that were nearly spot on regarding gameweek 25 + 26. was fascinating!

Question about best way to spread money across positions.

    Scenario 1:
3 top strikers, 3 top midfielders, 2 cheap/midprice midfielders to rotate. Play 3-4-3 as default.

    or

    Scenario 2:
2 top strikers with one cheaper to rotate, 4 top midfielders with one cheap to rotate. Play 3-5-2 as default.

    Which is better?

I assume both 1 & 2 involve budget defences. When there weren't 3 really firing strikers 2 was best, now it's possible to get 3 (so go for 1) as long as RVP and Tevez keep it up.

          Budget-ish, yep.

The main cause for asking the question is I've currently got option 1 with Berbatov, Tevez and Van Persie. I'm worried Berbatov's about to go cold again, and am tempted to make a move to Cahill if he can re-capture his pre-Asian Cup form. But to go for Cahill would require downgrading from Berbatov to a cheaper striker.

Right now it seems every man and his cat are taking Odem for the short term and Cahill now or 28 for his run coming up, switching to Saha 28 or 29 if he keeps scoring or Bent if they have the money or another cheap one.

Following on from a bit further up the page.....

Just throwing it out there for potential discussion, and I know we are using the Opta stats which are awesome, but is the Press Association data something worth having in terms of analysis either instead of or as well as what we currently have?

    http://www.pressassociation.com/images_pacorp/stories/sport/pdfs/Football%20Statistics.pdf

At least then we have a more accurate line of what they are basing their bonus point allocations on...

I put the three clubs fixtures together on the ticker and they look pretty tasty... when one of the has a tough game (which you'd probably play them in anyway) the other two have good looking fixtures.

Or, maybe swap Adam for Brunt to be better prepared for gw28, as there is little chance Adam will be able to play two games without a yellow imo

291 (21% of all your points) in the last 3 gameweeks is very impressive! It's a shame to have to wildcard after that and break up a winning team.

Adam would be the only concern as a possible spanner in the works for 28.

Hi all, i had 2 transfers this week already brought in Huth and now fielding 9 players playing twice. should i use may other to field 10 (probable Pennant) and will then just have 11 playing the following week. Any thoughts welcome.
