Roy Hodgson has today been unveiled as the new West Brom gaffer. This comes after popular boss Roberto Di Matteo lost was ousted earlier in the week. Although Michael Appleton has been placed in temporary control as caretaker manager and will oversee tomorrow’s clash with West Ham, Hodgson’s appointment will surely be greeted as a positive move and it’s effect on supporters and players could impact on the Baggies Gameweek prospects.

Hodgson’s new side have been in terrible form as of late, losing 7 of their last 9 Premier League games, after flying high during the first half of the season. Three Carlos Tevez goals last weekend have left the Baggies sitting just above the relegation zone by goal difference. The board clearly felt that removing Di Matteo from his role was the only possible way of staving off relegation.

The players will surely want to prove their worth to the new manager and a pivotal Fantasy Premier League Gameweek, that sees two home clashes against fellow relegation strugglers West Ham and Wolves, appears to present a perfect platform for improvement.

The Prospects

If West Brom are to forge any hopes of survival then these two fixtures are absolutely imperative. Clinch two victories and the gap is widened between themselves and the relegation zone. But if they find themselves without any points come February 20, they really will be in the thick of it. “Crucial” is the word rattling around the Hawthorns

West Brom will be grateful that these fixtures are on home turf as their home record is far stronger than their form on the road. The Baggies have picked up 18 of their 26 Premier League points at The Hawthorns. Eighteen goals have been scored and 19 conceded in front of a West Bromwich faithful; they will be hoping they can better that return over these games.

First opponents West Ham have performed fairly well on their recent travels, with a convincing 3-1 victory over Blackpool and a hard-fought 2-2 draw away against Everton. Avram Grant’s side have won 2 and drawn 5 games on the road, losing 6. They have also conceded a hefty 25 goals outside of Upton Park, so West Brom should certainly fancy their chances of boosting their goal tally.

Wolves meanwhile, have a woeful away record and the Baggies should profit here. Mick McCarthy’s men have managed just a single win and a draw away from home this season. But, having successfully picked the lock to Manchester United’s previously unbeatable record, they will surely be in high spirits.

The Likely Lads

One of the only positives to come out of West Brom’s abysmal season is the form of striker Peter Odemwingie. Relatively unknown prior to his transfer in the summer, the Nigerian international has excelled himself, performing above all expectations. Odemwingie has delivered an FPL return of 93 points, including 3 goals in his last 4 matches. Selection in tonight’s Scout Picks was always on the cards and he will carry a good few Fantasy hopes going into the weekend.

In midfield Chris Brunt stands out as the best prospect. The playmaker boasts an impressive array of (see the Members’ Area) and his role and influence is very much akin to that of Charlie Adam at Blackpool – most of the productive stuff goes through Brunt and his delivery at set-pieces is a major threat . Indeed, the Irishman is an excellent provider, assisting on 10 occasions this season. Though form is not on his, or West Brom’s, side as of late and Brunt has failed to notch an assist since the beginning of December.

Elsewhere West Brom really do offer slim pickings. Priced at just 4.5 on the FPL game and having picked-up 73 points this season, midfielder Jerome Thomas could be worth a shot. He has shown decent form but is likely to lose out to Brunt as an investment – unless a big differential is required.

Having conceded 48 goals and keeping 1 clean sheet so far this term, West Brom’s defence is best avoided. Although priced at 4.0, Gonzalo Jara does offer a value option and has threatened to contribute more in the final third. His Scout Pick selection tonight is a surprise, but given the clean sheet options available elsewhere, he forces his way into consideration.

Cheeky Punt

With an ownership of 0.4% and a price of 4.4, James Morrison could be worth a look if your budget is tight. The Scotland international has found the back of the net on 2 of his last 6 Premier League outings for the Baggies. His Members Stats are also fairly favourable and indicate that, in terms of efforts on goal, he can be a major threat to opponents.

Paddy Says…

Peter Odemwingie to score 3 or more goals in the Gameweek 7/1 (8.00)

How's this looking for a team?

    Hart
    R Johnson, Djorou, Kelly
    Adam, Brunt, Nani, Lennon, Fabs
    Odemwingie, RvP

    Bench: Al-Habsi, Berbs, Bardsley, Rafael

Next GW will be a bit of a nightmare, but plan is to go Lennon -> Cahill and Brunt -> A Young.

I dumped em both, and was considering about nani too, decided against it though. After gw 29 he's got a great run too and could really hurt ya. Lots of good mid options for the run in, by gw 30ish I'm looking at having nani, vdv, walcott, cahill/young & a cheapie. can run with that and still afford my punt on torres as a big differential from around gw 32, would have front 3 of tevez, rvp, torres

I'm liking my team atm, gotta 17 home fixtures this week, 1 away:).

          foster (friedal)

          r.j, kelly, rafael (kolarov, coleman)

          fab, walcott, bentley, nani (cahill)

          rvp, odem, bent

Plan is to do fab and odem to young/nolan/bilya & tevez next week leaving rvp, walcott, bentley on bench. One short at the back with r.j out but he just plays it the gw after anyway. Will have 5 or 6 dgw players in gw29 then i'll look to bring in vdv and torres.
looking at cheslea's fixtures from about gw32 it looks ripe for some big scores, they along with arsenal seem to be the only teams that can score 3/4 goals away from home regularly.

After critisising everyone elses wildcard i had better put miney up

    Foster (Berkovic)

reasonably cheap combo till end of season and foster good for doubles. they rotate fairly well

    Enrique Huff Sagna (Kolorov Coleman)

Went for an upgrade on doujarou , Sagna sure to play both as he
is banned for champions league first leg . While doujorou must be some doubt of rest.
Have lots of money so upgraded simpson to enrique , otherwise generic

    Young Fabregas Bentley Barton (Cahill)

Failrly standard , was debating Young or Brunt but have gone for
    the long term view there

    Odnewinge Van Persie Tevez

Spent ages looking at teams without Tevez and decided he a must have for next week.

Team has 9 doubloe gameweekers , four outfielders not playing next week so will have to replace one of those , probably Sagna for leighton Baines , then next week will swap odenwinge for a birmingham forward giving 6 doublers in gm 29

Thoughts and critisms . This took about 100 hours and its the first team im entirely happy with

4 is enough for GW29, 2 BIR and 2 EVE.

I only have to make 1 transfer to field 11:

Harper in goal is a decent rotator with Foster but Newc def pretty useless. Don't get many cleanies and few goals assists baps fromc them.

Huth Djourou Enrique R. Johnson (Coleman)
    VDV Adam Fabs Brunt (Nani)
    RVP Odem (Berbatov)
    Was planning
Cahill and Baines in for GW28 for Fabs/VDV and Djourou
and Gardner for Brunt GW 29
    but would
Barton for VDV GW27, Cahill for Fabs for GW 28, and Baines for Enrique for GW 29 be better

    My team for this week:
    Foster
    Kelly Huth Sagna
    VDV Adam Brunt Nolan
    RVP Rooney Tevez

    Subs: Stockdale Murphy Nani Coleman

    Questions:
    1- Who to captain?
2- Do I bench the correct players?

Only 6 double game weekers but a decent team for next week and extra dosh to spend on defence when I sell Fabregas.

It's a WC. Selling Adam would be like cutting off my little finger, though....

Pros - Blackpool collapsing, fixtures poor, teams know how to stop Adam playing. Jarvis cheaper, Wolves on the rise, can make a reasonable profit.

Cons - Blackpool scored 11 goals from corners this season. Villa conceded 11 goals from corners this season. Villa poor away, Blackpool always score at home.

It's a toughie. Wouldn't consider Brunt. Thanks for the advice.

play adam, sell him after this gw. He has 2 at home and is much more likely to get points than jarvis who has away games, one v arsenal and aside from a good fixture next gw doesn't seem worth a spot in your team. Even if adam gets carded in the 1st game, which is more unlikely than likely I'd still expect him to outscore jarvis

I ALWAYS play Coleman and I can't see 5 in a row for Liverpool. Wigan have to have a good go at them. It's 12 games to go and the threatened teams now have nothing to lose. (shit or bust time)

I just think this is one of Coleman's weeks.

It would take a brave man to take a chance on a West Brom defender. They’ve only kept one home clean sheet all season and that came in their second game. But then the attacking prowess of West Ham and Wolves shouldn’t pose as many problems. If they’re ever likely to keep a clean sheet then it could come in this gameweek’s home fixtures.if u are brave go for it 😉

Wilcard week for me (and still one wildcard left after this one).
Here is my lineup so far:

    Szczesny (Myhill)
    Vidic, Kolarov, Simpson, (Kelly), (Coleman)
Fabregas, Van der Vaart, Adam, Barton, (Nani)
    Tevez, Van Persie (C), Odemwingie

    0.7 in the bank.

I understand your point. You make an assumption on the result and pick the players on what you think will be the winning side. If your prediction is right, you get full rewards, but if you're wrong...
I prefer to have players on both sides, at least one will bring me some points, and you can never rule out a Vidic goal.

I have VdV since he joined the premier league and have no intention to get rid of him. I think the probability that he will bring some points from Blackpool is higher than Nani doing something against Man City.

I agree Adam is debatable... Who would you bring to replace him?

VdV out Cahill in is a sensible transfer. But something tells me to hold on to VdV, he never disappointed me so far and is on free kicks + penalties.

Jarvis (just like Brunt) are possible options to replace Adam. But they have not done much recently in terms of goals and assists.
At least Adam is a bonus point magnet and takes penalties + corner kicks.

I could do Adam out Nolan in, but I already have Barton since the beginning of the season).

Any other idea to replace Adam?
