Roy Hodgson takes the positives from a last-gasp draw in West Brom’s crucial bottom-of-the-table showdown with Wolves. The Tevez-Dzeko partnership shows signs of success at The Guvnor’s expense, Klasnic comes to Bolton’s rescue to dump Sparky out the cup and Orient provide the fairytale element to earn an Emirates replay. Here’s the notes from Sunday’s league and cup action…

For the first Black Country derby in nigh on two years, Roy Hodgson made just one alteration from the side that threw away a three goal lead against West Ham last week; Gabriel Tamas replaced Youssouf Mulumbu, who missed out due to a hamstring injury. That change pushed Paul Scharner back into a midfield role. Hodgson had on-loan Arsenal man Carlos Vela to thank for an injury-time equaliser, with the Mexican coming off the bench to score the goal that ensured the visitors stay rooted to the bottom of the table. Up until then the Baggies had again been wasteful in front of goal, with Peter Odemwingie and Marc-Antoine Fortune particularly culpable.

With just two points from two home matches against two of their main relegation rivals this gameweek, new boss Hodgson has failed to boost the club’s survival chances, and Fantasy Managers who invested in the likes of Chris Brunt and Peter Odemwingie will feel let down by their returns. Both had opportunities to register points; Brunt’s set-pieces in particular were a threat all afternoon but came to nothing. The Baggies have a testing run of fixtures on the horizon and there’s no doubt those who drafted in their players in light of this double gameweek will now be looking to get rid, fairly sharpish.

Mick McCarthy’s side stopped a run of four straight away defeats with the Hawthorns draw, though in fairness Wolves owed a debt to keeper Wayne Hennessey, who defied their hosts time and again, ending the match with eleven saves but, surprisingly, no FPL Bonus Points. On-loan Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara gave Wolves the lead and bagged the maximum 3 Bonus Points instead, for his performance, with Matt Jarvis awarded 2.

Subject of Big Dunc’s recent Spot the Differential article, O’Hara was something of a Bonus Point darling last season during his time at Portsmouth -he picked up 25 Bonus Points- and with Blackpool up next at Molinuex, could easily get amongst the points again, as Wolves look to pick up from their last home game, the 2-1 win over Man United.

Roberto Mancini fielded a strong Man City XI for the Fourth Round FA Cup replay with Notts County, handing starts to the likes of Edin Dzeko and Mario Balotelli, with the young Italian returning from injury. Aleksandar Kolarov again started left of a front three, suggesting Mancini will continue to field him there as opposed to left-back.

Following a lethargic opening, it was Patrick Viera who steadied the City ship with a double to set them on their way to the next round. Carlos Tevez came on for Balotelli just before the hour mark and his partnership with Dzeko came good, much to the visitor’s chagrin. First, Tevez ran on to a Dzeko through ball to squeeze home the third, then the Argentine returned the favour, floating over a cross for Dzeko to nod home at close range. Micah Richards’ fifth was unfair on Paul Ince’s visitors, who troubled Joe Hart on a number of occasions at the other end.

Fulham failed to take their home league form into the tie with Bolton and were made to pay. Mark Hughes’ side have chalked up four league clean sheets on the trot at Craven Cottage but, with key midfielder Simon Davies missing, could not find a way past Owen Coyle’s side. Good news for the club is the return to first-team action of Bobby Zamora, who appeared midway through the second half as a substitute, in his first appearance since gameweek 4.

Owen Coyle benched the misfiring Johan Elmander, allowing Ivan Klasnic to join Kevin Davies up front for the Trotters. With Daniel Sturridge cup-tied, Klasnic provided the decisive goal, his second winner in the last week. Stuart Holden came back into midfield and at the back, Marcos Alonso stepped in for the injured Sam Ricketts and proved an able deputy, helping Bolton to chalk up a rare away clean sheet.

Alex Song was the only survivor from Arsenal’s midweek triumph over Barcelona as the Gunners travelled to Orient yesterday evening. Tomas Rosicky gave Arsene Wenger’s side the lead in a match they completely dominated from start to finish but misses from Andrei Arshavin and Marouanne Chamakh proved costly in the end, as the home side equalised at the death to earn the right of a replay. The Emirates re-match will take place on Wednesday March 2, extinguishing any hope that the league fixture with Spurs would drop into gameweek 28. The blank gameweek for Arsenal and Spurs is confirmed then.

The plan was Walcott to Cahill but Timmy has done his best to look unappealing since his return.

With Cahill it will be this with everyone playing home apart from Nani's 2 away games and Odem's 1 away.

          Begovic,
          Simpson, Kolarov, Coleman, Huth
          Nani (c), Young, Barton, Cahill
          Odemwingie, Tevez

I hope to get a respectable score but the midfield worries me on this week's form. I just wildcarded last week and got Young and Barton who gave me 6 points total between them 🙁

      I do.

However i'm not pretty happy about the 11 that are playing. For instance i have hangeland who will be facing Man city. So i may still take a points hit to get walcott/fabregas out for cahill and then field a 4-4-2 formation.

      How about you ?

I've planned ahead and decided i should risk playing 10 for 2 free transfers. In reality i shouldn't get over 60 but then i have the comfort of having 4 points over everybody else

for a weekend that had no EPL games originally scheduled, there were some great games, agreed? Going back a little earlier to arsenals comeback win over Barca, then evertons comeback win on pens vs chelsea, WBA's late equalizer vs Wolves and the Orient Express with a shocking goal in the 89th minute to draw against arsenal. Rooneys goal was last sunday right? So all that in one week? Damn i love football.

Morning, gents.I have a bit of a problem in the GKing department for this week. While WCing,I wanted to pair Foster(who has been in my team from the start of the season) with Begovic since their fixtures rotated well.
However, for some reason I had to settle for Al-Habsi with Foster. Now this week I have Foster who has a blank and Al-Habsi who is playing Man U at home, meaning that there is no chance whatsoever of a cleanie this week.
I have 2 free transfers,so if Adam doesn't get booked against Spurs and I have only Fabregas to change to put out a full XI,should I use the other freebie to swap Al-Habsi to Begovic/Gordon?Or would that be a complete waste of a transfer?Remember that if I get Begovic in,it would be good for the rest of the season as Foster and AH just don't rotate well.

      Thoughts?Cheers.

Djourou to Kolarov? 1.5 in the bank.. 2 free transfers.. leaves me with

          Coleman Kolarov Simpson Kelly (Johnson)
          Nani Adam Brunt Cahill (Fabregas)

Yeah, I'd probably go for it, only because I think you should have Kolarov. I wouldn't be too keen about losing Djourou, he's excellent value and Arsenal have great fixtures after the double.

Yeah I guess, but I still wouldn't get rid of Djourou until Vermaelen is 100% back. He's scoring extremely well for someone who's 4.3.

But if you don't want to lose RVP or Fabregas, at you need to field 11, then fair enough. Go fot it!

Well possibly, but he's supposed to have been coming back all season. Djourou likely to partner him anyway if and when. Kolarov good for next two games but then has a tough run. I'd stick with djourou unless you want to have 3 outfield arsenal players

tempted to go with a 8pt hit this week. the 3 players id bring in will probably play 5 x 90mins between them and its either that or dont field a full team so id make the points up that way

          im thinking

          vdv/rvp/defoe out
          meireles/rooney/berbatov in

spurs have let in 3 goals in their last 6 home games, those games include chelsea liverpool and utd going there

gallas and dawson seem to be forming a nice partnership and with harry playing the holding midfielder theyre tough to break down especially at home

          That's more like it Shane.

Fun story: I went to a local cricket course when I was younger, which advertised that Shane Watson was coming along - this was when he wasn't a regular in the Aussie side, but still. Only the guy who turned up claiming to be Shane Watson had short black hair and was left handed! It was an absolute farce, but fortunately for them I was the only kid there who actually knew who Shane Watson was, so they got pretty much got away with it.

Safe to say I never went back to another one of their courses after that......

Carr or Jiranek for dgw? Obviously neither great but can't afford r.johnson as needing to free up cash for attacking transfers. Is Jiranek nailed on starter now?

Same dilemma here. Not much offensive differences between them so I'll probably go for safer and cheaper Carr.

Im not asking for much, just need Fabregas to outscore Walcott by 20 points. If Walcott gets inj early on, even better.

I think Rooney is due a red card about now, has looked very petulant in the last few games, and he wasn't too far off a red with one challenge on Saturday. I had him (C) for Villa a few weeks back, and felt remarkably lucky to get that much out of him in his current form, would go for Berbs.

I think Fergie is at a point where he realises in order to keep Berba happy he will play in the bigger games, and I also think he realises that he needs to get the two of them firing together, I see him playing against Chelsea because of the 4-4-2 Chelsea will play (or variation on same), and we all know Fergie likes to match up like this with teams.

The day I don't transfer someone in because they're due a red card is the day I stop playing FPL.

Unless it's Lee Cattermole of course, he's always due a red card.
