Tottenham went to Bloomfield Road off the back of a 1-0 Champions League win in the San Siro and three straight Premier League wins. Not for the first time however, Blackpool defied the odds and ran out 3-1 winners with Charlie Adam again imperious. Sadly for Fantasy Managers, the Blackpool skipper also conspired to pick up a needless yellow to rob us and Ian Holloway of his services for two matches.

Meanwhile, over in Denmark, Chelsea looked uncharacteristically assured against FC Copenhagen, earning a 2-0 first leg victory courtesy of two more quality strikes from Nicolhas Anelka.

Here’s the notes from last night’s events…

From a Fantasy perspective, Charlie Adam’s yellow card late on for an unnecessary challenge on Michael Dawson was undoubtedly the main talking point of Blackpool’s victory. As we outlined last night, Adam will now serve an immediate two-match ban and miss games at Wolves and at home to Chelsea. A major blow for Ian Holloway’s side and Adam’s many Fantasy owners.

Adam claimed 2 FPL Bonus Points on the night but the maximum 3 went to centre-back Craig Cathcart; the first time a Blackpool defender has earned 3 Bonus this season.

Holloway made four changes to the lineup that earned a point at home to Villa in the first match of their gameweek. Belarusian striker Sergei Kornilenko earned a debut up front having notched for the reserves last week, he was partnered by DJ Campbell and James Beattie in Blackpool’s familiar 4-3-3. Ludovic Sylvestre came into the midfield for the injured Elliot Grandin, while Neal Eardley returned at the back, with David Carney dropping to the bench.

Sebastian Bassong was drafted into the Spurs defence to help fill the void left by the injury suffered by Vedran Corluka in the San Siro. Bassong started alongside Dawson, with William Gallas given the unfamiliar task of filling in at right-back. Alan Hutton was nowhere to be seen again then – having seemingly cemented his starting role, the former Rangers man has gone missing in action. Answers on a postcard please.

Redknapp recalled Luka Modric to his midfield, while Jermain Defoe and Roman Pavlyuchenko operated as a front two. Niko Kranjcar again earned a start on the left of midfield as Redknapp was again deprived of Gareth Bale and Rafael Van der Vaart through injury.

Defoe is still searching for his first league goal of the season – he certainly had ample opportunities last night. A Richard Kingson right-hand and two goal-line clearances prevented the England striker from notching. He will surely register a first goal soon but in Fantasy terms, Defoe remains one of the season’s major disappointments.

Interest in Tottenham’s assets will be dampened by their blank fixture this coming gameweek but their schedule to follow suggests more positive results and Fantasy returns will come their way. Wolves, West Ham, Wigan and Stoke provide the next four opponents – all of which should bring attacking rewards. Defensively however, Redknapp’s side remain inconsistent and look a risk.

Over in Copenhagen Chelsea ran out comfortable 2-0 winners in their Champions League first leg tie. Nicolhas Anelka was again the class act on show, overshadowing the huff and puff of Fernando Torres with two typically assured finishes.

Carlo Ancelotti again chose to bench Didier Drogba, opting for Anelka and Torres in a narrow 4-4-2 which saw Florent Malouda and Ramires take up the “wideâ€roles. Malouda impressed on the night but both he and Ramires on the opposite side tucked in, as Chelsea still feel their way around a formation seemingly forced upon them by the arrival of Torres.

Torres himself badly needs that first goal in Chelsea colours. He put in a shift last night but while Anelka nonchalantly eased his way around the pitch and provided two icy moments of quality, Torres bustled and relied on effort in order to impress. True to form, Ancelotti was quick to jump to the defence of the Spaniard in his post-match appraisal…

“What was important was his movement with Anelka and it was a good combination and I am happy. Anelka was able to score and Torres had a lot of opportunity that he created with his movement…We have fantastic strikers so I have to decide for each game but also at the end when Drogba came on, he had a good combination with Torres.â€

Ancelotti’s lineup for the visit of United on March 1 will be interesting to say the least. Anelka’s form is such, the Chelsea boss will be forced to consider a 4-3-3 with Drogba, Torres and Anelka let loose. A more conservative lineup seems likely; that will mean a decision has to be made on whether it’s Drogba or Torres who start against Alex Ferguson’s men. While such doubts on Ancelotti’s preferred pairing and formation continue, Fantasy Managers are likely to remain little more than casual observers.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Are people going to ditch Adam because of his suspension now? I'm going to have to be forced into a trade to field 11 this week now.

      That's pretty poor

Adam will be going for either Young or Cahill

I've got the same thoughts except I'll be ditching Lennon (absolute fail getting him in for this week). Who are you planning on getting? I'm leaning towards Cahill but Young is playing in a free role and has nice fixtures.

    Adam-> Downing

for a -4. Worth it? Worth getting some more Man U in? Could do RVP -> Instead of one of the above..

Anti-Ipswich, if you had him since week 1 he has only went up by 1m so the most you'd be losing value wise is actually 0.5m.

Don't know if this changes your perspective on possibly transferring him out but just though I should mention that.

yes its either him or rooney for me. Rooney means transferring RVP out....whereas giggs means transferring Adam out.

While giggs may not start both games. He will feature in both. i predict 2 assists, plus 3 playing pts and 1-2 bonus. About 10 or so over the two games. Its certainly worth considering.

I asked the same question on an earlier post. It wasnt met witht the best response, but i think i am going to bring him anyway in for Walcott this week.

I need to mix it up, as my fellow competitors have nani. I also have Rooney. Im just debating whether to bring in Berba for RVP?

Well mine and Gooner dave's cup game it rests on this evenings. I have Dempsey coming off the bench, leaving me 10pts behind for the final game of the GW.

    I have Szczesny and Fabs(c).
    He has Djourou and Fabs.

Don't think its completely out of my reach, particularly if Fabs performs. Would be interested to see what others think.

Assuming Djourou and Szc cancel each other out then Fabs will need to socre 11 points for you to win... (10 to draw)

Goal plus an assist plus bonus you need...

        No you're not.

If we assume that sczez and djourou cancel each other out. You just need fabs to score 10 points to tie. So 90 mins, goal and 3 bonus or assist will do it.

I suppose I am fortunate enough (through good planning!)... I have 11 ready to play this weekend and currently sitting on 83 this week with fabs (c) tonight.

My team does need improvement though, with 2 Blackpool and 2 West brom players.

Since most people will be taking 4 point hits should I take this opportunity to improve or hold tight?

    What are others doing?

    Opinions welcome

don't take a pts hit. Use your one or two subs to sort your team out a bit...get 3 man utd perhaps?

I've got five out but two free subs so I'll only just be able to do 11. Consider myself lucky tho.

Hopefully if Cahill is fit, Fabs --> Cahill and I'll have this team:

    Begovic (WBA)
Walker (BLA) Kolarov (FUL) Huth (WBA) Vidic (wig/che)
Cahill (SUN) Barton (BOL) Nani (wig/che) Young (BLA)
    Tevez (FUL) Odem (sto)

    Foster RVP Walcott Johnson

Pretty please with that, maybe tempted to do Odem to someone too.

gul(C) is also a good move since pakistan is bowling 2nd so he should get few wickets...

Boom,if you are still there, how about Adam->Jarvis,Fabs->Cahill and Odemwingie->Berba for -4??Because the lads above were saying that VdV will return against Wolves and as it is Fabs is performing below his level.I’ll be getting Nasri in the next 2-3 weeks, but in the meantime why not buy Berba considering he has a DGW?There’s the risk of him being benched against Chelsea, but if he starts he’s certainly worth considering.

decent plan but as u said berba may not start against chelsea so if u want to take a risk go for it...he is better than rooney for longer term as well...but don't do transfers before the deadline as manutd are playing today in the champs lg ....

And even if he doesn't start against Chelsea,he could easily tear apart Wigan's f*cknut.United have made a habit of taking Wigan to the cleaners over the last few years.

I think most of you are in a similar situation. I have definitely out Fabs, RVP, Carr, Adam and VdV, probably Rafael (who has to stay in my team). As I have 2 freebies it would be no problem to field 11 without taking a hit(if Rafael plays). Fabs, Adam and VdV should have been season keepers, but I have to get rid off at least one of them.

        Options:
        A)Adam>Barton/Ohara
-> field only 10 and save second transfer. Might sound crazy, but as Cahill is doubtful, I can't find a proper replacement in midfield.

        B.Fabs,Odem>Barton,Rooney
also this time I would field only 10, same reasons as A + I want Odem out of my team rather sooner than later + I get another DGW player and captains choice.

        C.Adam,Fabs/VdV > Barton,Cahill
would wait till Sat if Cahill confirmed fit.

Sorry for this long post, just wanted to share my thoughts...

I think O hara is not allowed to play vs Spurs in gw 29 since he is on loan.

I realy don't think it's worth getting rid of a player that will actually play this week, eg Odem.

See your point, but if you look at your team it's mostly 4-5 players who get you 80% of your points. Rooney could hit double figures this week. I think that's probably a wiser move than gettin some midfielder whom I don't want in the long run...

I'm torn in two. Want Fab to outscore Walcott by 20 points tonight(Wally break a leg please) to gain ground on my mini league leader.

Problem is it will make the who to sell: VDV/Fab issue so much more difficult if Fab goes crazy.

I can currently field 10 in a beautiful 5-2-2 formation.

Reckon its worth a 4 point hit to do Adam > Jarvis?

same dilemma as me above. Adam yellow is really causing a headache.

Im thinking of fielding 10 and leaving Adam on the bench, selling him doesnt raise enough money, and Cahill is a doubt which make things worse.

Everyone's shipping Fabs cos it's a lot of money to stick on the bench. I'm not personally but I am going to ship RVP for Rooney, possibly just for this gameweek, I'm not sure.

What's your budget for an Adam replacement?

I see, there's no one really worth selling fabs for though appart from Man Utd cover I guess. I'd lose .4 on RVP.

It's all a conspiracy, but better than morning TV. Have you looked at Downing. The Villa have quite a good run coming up. The other option is to bring in Arteta ready for the Eve DGW, if your view is that Cahill will still underperform...he just hasn't travelled well back from Asia...just some thoughts...
