Tottenham went to Bloomfield Road off the back of a 1-0 Champions League win in the San Siro and three straight Premier League wins. Not for the first time however, Blackpool defied the odds and ran out 3-1 winners with Charlie Adam again imperious. Sadly for Fantasy Managers, the Blackpool skipper also conspired to pick up a needless yellow to rob us and Ian Holloway of his services for two matches.

Meanwhile, over in Denmark, Chelsea looked uncharacteristically assured against FC Copenhagen, earning a 2-0 first leg victory courtesy of two more quality strikes from Nicolhas Anelka.

Here’s the notes from last night’s events…

From a Fantasy perspective, Charlie Adam’s yellow card late on for an unnecessary challenge on Michael Dawson was undoubtedly the main talking point of Blackpool’s victory. As we outlined last night, Adam will now serve an immediate two-match ban and miss games at Wolves and at home to Chelsea. A major blow for Ian Holloway’s side and Adam’s many Fantasy owners.

Adam claimed 2 FPL Bonus Points on the night but the maximum 3 went to centre-back Craig Cathcart; the first time a Blackpool defender has earned 3 Bonus this season.

Holloway made four changes to the lineup that earned a point at home to Villa in the first match of their gameweek. Belarusian striker Sergei Kornilenko earned a debut up front having notched for the reserves last week, he was partnered by DJ Campbell and James Beattie in Blackpool’s familiar 4-3-3. Ludovic Sylvestre came into the midfield for the injured Elliot Grandin, while Neal Eardley returned at the back, with David Carney dropping to the bench.

Sebastian Bassong was drafted into the Spurs defence to help fill the void left by the injury suffered by Vedran Corluka in the San Siro. Bassong started alongside Dawson, with William Gallas given the unfamiliar task of filling in at right-back. Alan Hutton was nowhere to be seen again then – having seemingly cemented his starting role, the former Rangers man has gone missing in action. Answers on a postcard please.

Redknapp recalled Luka Modric to his midfield, while Jermain Defoe and Roman Pavlyuchenko operated as a front two. Niko Kranjcar again earned a start on the left of midfield as Redknapp was again deprived of Gareth Bale and Rafael Van der Vaart through injury.

Defoe is still searching for his first league goal of the season – he certainly had ample opportunities last night. A Richard Kingson right-hand and two goal-line clearances prevented the England striker from notching. He will surely register a first goal soon but in Fantasy terms, Defoe remains one of the season’s major disappointments.

Interest in Tottenham’s assets will be dampened by their blank fixture this coming gameweek but their schedule to follow suggests more positive results and Fantasy returns will come their way. Wolves, West Ham, Wigan and Stoke provide the next four opponents – all of which should bring attacking rewards. Defensively however, Redknapp’s side remain inconsistent and look a risk.

Over in Copenhagen Chelsea ran out comfortable 2-0 winners in their Champions League first leg tie. Nicolhas Anelka was again the class act on show, overshadowing the huff and puff of Fernando Torres with two typically assured finishes.

Carlo Ancelotti again chose to bench Didier Drogba, opting for Anelka and Torres in a narrow 4-4-2 which saw Florent Malouda and Ramires take up the “wide”roles. Malouda impressed on the night but both he and Ramires on the opposite side tucked in, as Chelsea still feel their way around a formation seemingly forced upon them by the arrival of Torres.

Torres himself badly needs that first goal in Chelsea colours. He put in a shift last night but while Anelka nonchalantly eased his way around the pitch and provided two icy moments of quality, Torres bustled and relied on effort in order to impress. True to form, Ancelotti was quick to jump to the defence of the Spaniard in his post-match appraisal

“What was important was his movement with Anelka and it was a good combination and I am happy. Anelka was able to score and Torres had a lot of opportunity that he created with his movement…We have fantastic strikers so I have to decide for each game but also at the end when Drogba came on, he had a good combination with Torres.”

Ancelotti’s lineup for the visit of United on March 1 will be interesting to say the least. Anelka’s form is such, the Chelsea boss will be forced to consider a 4-3-3 with Drogba, Torres and Anelka let loose. A more conservative lineup seems likely; that will mean a decision has to be made on whether it’s Drogba or Torres who start against Alex Ferguson’s men. While such doubts on Ancelotti’s preferred pairing and formation continue, Fantasy Managers are likely to remain little more than casual observers.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Injuries & suspensions & blanks mean I don't have a clue what to do now. My team is as follows, with players I can definitely start in capitals:

    Foster - AL-HABSI
    RAFAEL - COLEMAN - HUTH - KELLY - Djourou
Fabregas - NANI - Van der Vaart - Adam - BARTON
TEVEZ - BERBATOV - Van Persie

Definitely need two mids or a mid & a defender, and would ideally like to change Al-Habsi.

    QUESTIONS:
    1. Al-Habsi -> Begovic?
    2. Fabregas -> Meireles? Dempsey? Silva? Downing? Cahill?
    3. Take a 4 point hit to get rid of Djourou or Adam? If so, for who?

I have a very similar team as you and will be changing 2 midfielders this week. Leave Al-Habsi as at least he will play and Foster will be straight back in next week anyway.

Adam is definitely out for the next 2 GW's so will not play again for a month so i'm shipping him out along with probably Fabregas as I won't lose much value on him.

Adam & Fabregas -> Cahill (if confirmed fit) and Young is what i'm going with at present but all could change by Saturday morning!

Exactly. Foster has pretty good fixtures till the end of the season apart form Liverpool and Spurs away in GW 34 and 38 so it's not a priority at the moment.

I have Kingson so am in an even worse position than you with regard to backup!

2 things to take into account with regards to captaincy this GW:

Tevez: Like I mentioned further up, Fulham have the joint best away defensive record, alongside Chelsea & Man City (14 conceded in 13 games - call it a goal a game).

Nani: Is far better at home than he is away. 8.7ppg at home and 4.8ppg away).
Rooney: 5.8ppg at home, 3.8ppg away.
Berba: 9ppg at home, 4ppg away, plus the realistic chance he won't play both games.

Just something to keep in mind. Nani could still likely score around 10 points this next GW (20 if captained), so I guess still not too bad. But I think Tevez will do well to get a goal.

I currently have it on Nani, simply due to him having 2 games and it's always nice to have a captain in DGW as you know you have points to come.

But Nani vs Ashley Cole hey won't get the freedom that he gets at OT vs poorer teams.

Bent probably looks like the best long term option IMO. I'm looking to have a front 3 of Tevez/Bent/Suarez shortly. I brought Suarez in for the game against Wigan and he is certainly worthy of consideration. Although he didn't score he was denied by the woodwork twice and had some great touches during the game. I think he got a couple of BP's too. I would go for Bent/Suarez.

I am seriously considering some Chelsea representation soon myself, they have to start picking up the pieces soon, and while I fancy a draw in the United game (can't see United winning or losing), they have been ignored for so long ownership is way down and they start becoming "differentials" as much as I hate the word.

Yeah, thats true. Im also considering it, but not for this weekend and i'm realy unsure as to which of them to get in. Only 6% of teams own Anelka, he has scored 7 in his last 6 games so he is well worth thinking, especially after his performance last night. Only thing is you also have Drogs and Torres so hes not even guaranteed to start although Ancelotti seems to prefer him.
I think Lampard is too dear. If I get a midfielder it will probably be Malouda

I reckon he wil play against Wigan, and it is hard to know whether they will match him up against the pacey Malouda, or whether O'Shea will be brought in as he has been for the bigger games of late. I am staying well clear of United defence in any event, don't look like keeping more than one clean sheet in the next 3 to be honest (Wigan).

The problem with having Fabregas and Walcott and Begovic and Huth is I really don't know what type of scoreline I want tonight, I suppose if Huth were to miraculously score, I wouldn't care if they hammered them because Begovic would get 1 or 2 save points.

It's ridiculous, loads captained him last night too I would say, me included.

I have Robben/Nani/Vidic and Eto'o to choose for captain tonight and since i have only gotten 2 from my first two choices (Ibra and Ronaldo), I can't really lose too much. I am thinking Eto'o for them being at home, the fact he is on fire all the time it seems, and is on pens.

Can anyone confirm if Nolan and Barton have any more cards than the ones that are showing on FPL? Nola is on 8, I just wonder if he got anymore in any other cup competitions and same for Barton who is on 7, might avoid if they were both on 8 or 9, need a 5-6 week cheapie.

If Cahill is injured this GW how does Fabs > Meireles sound? Or has that ship sailed guys? With Adam out I'm also thinking of doing Adam > Downing. Any thoughts?

I think that ship has sailed to be honest, I think we have seen the best of his purple patch and it is time to scout for the up and comers, Adam OUT Downing IN sounds good (although I would prefer Young with pens and more set pieces). Fabregas OUT Cahill IN if he is fit is a good move, and one EVERYONE will be doing I suspect.

If Cahill is confirmed out, I'm tempted to do Adam > Yaya Toure or VDV > Silva.

Mental in respect of YaYa, Ya. For Silva, even though he normally assists the assister it is more of a calculated gamble, I think we have seen the best of YaYa from an attacking standpoint this season, and I don't see the value in bringing him in.

Damn, my H2H opponent in the padder cup is winning by 1 point with it coming down to Huth vrs Djourou. This is tight, really need something from Huth and for Stoke to score. Just one bonus will sort me out, as a draw means I win on rankings

You got Van P when he was 9.7, hes now 10.4 so you stand to lose 0.4m on him and giving their upcoming fixtures, i think its better to get rid of Fabregas as you have obvious replacements in Cahill and Young.

I don't, at least with defenders, who usually I feel it is not worth taking a hit for, they can score a goal or assist to make up points. A keeper can't, unless they get a bit lucky, but the odds are slim, so no.
