With the end of what seemed like the longest gameweek in history on Wednesday, we just have time to recap how the second round of the Members Paddy Power Cup panned out. The full list of 64 results is right here, and what follows is a brief round-up of the action…

Having started the round one results round-up with a doff of the cap to each of those Fantasy Managers reaching a ton for the week, that would be somewhat tedious on this occasion, as a mighty 41 of the 128 achieved that particular landmark for the round, but with only 34 progressing. So here’s a consolatory name check, along with their margin of defeat, to the unfortunate seven… Dangeroussnails (7), dez (7), burleyboy (8), Ty_Durden (1), timdogster (1), breakballartist (1) and SkyBlueArmy (2). Unlucky.

As for the nine managers that scored a century of Fantasy points in round one, they fell into two distinct categories this time round. They either repeated the incredible feat and progressed to the next round (Civan, Walky Talky, xabi_14 and fiacloir), or they ‘only’ notched double-digits and were eliminated (Dick Fran Dyke, Goose, RafaMC, stebwfc and Aldershot Rejects). That 113 for xabi_14 was the top score for the round.

Unsurprisingly the highest-scoring tie of the round involved two centurions, with BigJ prevailing 110 – 103 over Dangeroussnails.

Along with Ty_Durden, Dangeroussnails’ 103 was the highest score not good enough for the third round, but with an average score a shade over 95 this week, there were bound to be plenty of high-scoring casualties.

Not so for the Scout’s own Granville however, whose slightly above par 97, beat Mole’s slightly below par 92.  The dream continues.

Also safely in the hat for the third round draw is current Paddy Power Cup III Champion, Gooner dave, who put JimmyDeemo to the sword 107 – 96.

Far and away the biggest drubbing this week was dealt out by Kvanmo who annihilated Contributor da Beeeez 110 – 71.

Lastly, there was one drawn fixture in the round, with oi keano and martinhs scoring 97. The former advancing thanks to his superior overall rank.

A big well done to the 64 fantasy mangers progressing to the third round. The fixtures for which will be announced very shortly.

The prizes for the competition, provided by Paddy Power, are a free £150 bet for the winner, £75 for the runner-up and £50 for third place.

If you’re not with Paddy Power yet, then you can sign up via this site and get a free £20 when you register and bet £10. (All offers are only available to those aged 18 and over and are subject to Paddy Power’s terms and conditions.)

    Planning on doing:
    VDV and Fabregas out
Silva and Cahill (fitness dependent) in
For an 8 point hit having already done Adam to young. If I did these transfers I would have a team of:
    Begovic
    Rafael Hangeland Coleman
    Nani Cahill Silva Young Barton
    Tevez (c) Campbell
    Subs: Foster RVP Djourou RJohnson
    Thoughts?

In Michael Carrick's 13 #epl starts this year, #mufc have conceded 8 goals. Of the 13 games he didn't start, we've conceded 15 goals.

So when Carrick starts in the league, #mufc have conceded 0.62 goals per game, and when he doesn't, 1.15. MC starts - goals conceded halve.

In 4 out of his 5 Champions League group stage starts this season, Michael Carrick covered more distance than any other #mufc player.

Michael Carrick has attempted 847 passes in the #epl for #mufc this season, and completed 736 of them, for a pass completion rate of 86.9%.

This 86.9% means Michael Carrick has the highest pass completion rate in the #epl for midfielders starting 50% or more of his club's games.

Michael Carrick has the most amount of interceptions for a midfielder in the #epl. #mufc

    Carrick haters can do one!

He's better off the ball than people give him credit for, he closes down angles for passes etc very effectively. One of those more intelligent players that defends well without needing to tackle.
If he played in Spain or somewhere he might be more lauded.

I want a cheapie midfielder and Jarvis or O'Hara fit the bill up against an Adam-less Blackpool. Just need to decide between the two. Was on Jarvis, but looking at the WBA Wolves game, I see that O'Hara played much forward than he did against Arsenal and had more shots than Jarvis. Hmm...

Don’t know about Cahill – out of form and carrying an injury. I’d really like to see him demonstrate better performances first. Arteta on pens, Villas fixtures good in the long term and nasri showing good form – therefore I prefer option 1.

Hi guys would appreciate a bit of feedback. I have 2 free transfers this week, my current team is in my username link.

I'm thinking Fabs --> Arteta (i'm feeling lucky) and RVP --> Rooney.

The latter is really just to have Rooney for the DGW, as i know RVP seems likely to be fit for his next game. Do you think this is wise? Or should i ship out VDV. I kinda want to leave Adam as he is cheap and has a definite return date. Fabs is gone as he unlocks money and we don't know the return date yet.

    Comments?

Well, I've climbed out of the lower reaches of the shit, and would have been pleased with my team until the Arsenal boys started falling over, so now it's a rebuilding job, what with Kelly as well. If I can survive this week without a big drop, then I believe I can really push on! 🙂

    A little advice please guys:

    Foster Stockdale
    Djourou Evatt Coleman Kelly Walker
    Fabregas Adam VDV Nani Brunt
    RVP Odemwingie Tevez

Not at all happy with my team, but have 2 free transfers and 5m in the bank.

How does Stockdale, Adam and Fabregas out for VDS, Young and Cahill sound?

    Any better options?

Was really sold on getting VDS for Al-Habsi myself but can't field XI (thanks chubby Charlie) so quite unsure on what to do (although he'll probably compensate the hit just this GW).
Although not original, good moves I guess... I'm awaiting update on Cahill myself

Downing instead of Young, imo. Cahill ... are you sure? Van der Saar, three thumbs up! 🙂

Cheers guys, my worry with VDS is that (with Foster as well) I'll have a lot of money spent on keepers.

I was thinking Young as he's on pens (I think?!).

Cahill, I'm waiting on injury news but will definitely want him next week.

The other option I'm considering is trying to get Rooney in somewhere...

Young is on pens as far as I know but he doesn't seem to do much else... Downing in better form indeed!

Tough decision on which midfielders to choose from.

I reckon Cahill (if proved fit) should come in for no other reason than that fixtures are favouring Everton, despite his form.

The next choice is the toughest between Silva/Y Toure (2 great fix),Young (generally a long term option, on set pieces and decent fix), Downing (as before, has better form the Young) or a either Barton/Nolan (decent run of fix)

Regarding VDS, personally i would not want that much tied up in a GK - especially when Utd's next 3 fix are away from home. Maybe Harper is a decent priced alternative allowing an upgrade of Brunt to Nasri next GW (if funds allow)

I almost want Kelly to be ruled out.

Would give me an excuse to do Kelly > Kolarov for a 4 pointer.

If he plays, I'm not making the move...

You holding onto Fabs Zophar - finding the right 2 midfielders this GW is a tough one

Makes sense to hold onto fabs I guess, apparently he could have played on Sunday .. So he might make Sunderland still as opposed to Adam who doesn't have a game cause of suspension..

My worries ATM, maybe you could give some input

          1. I have only ten players ATM
          2. One of them is Ian evatt aka 1 or 2 points and no goal threat cause no Adam
          3. Kelly is doubtful I heard
          4. Odemwingie sucks

I'm really stumped what to do.. Got 8.1 in the bank and one free transfer but I'm not too keen on jumping on cahill.. United double isn't that tempting so I dunno if it's worth to do ode to rooney ESP with Rooney playing wide

Evatt is as good as a non player, dunno whether to take a -4 to get kolarov in for him..

Adam to cahill or silva is the move to make IMO .. But cahill fitness news is so vague, it might be a transfer better left for next week

Having 10 this GW (without transfers) seems a bit of a rarity.

I would focus on ADAM or FABS > ?????? to field 11

Undecided on whether to keep Fabs myself as downgrading him this week would allow me to upgrade one of my cheapy MF's to Nasri next GW.

As for Cahill, if he is declared fit i would go with him based on fixtures, however, his form is a worry.

Silva looks a really decent option on paper but i am not convinced by his ability to deliver in FPL terms (you also have Y Toure). Man City's next 2 fixtures do look very tempting though, you could then dump him for VDV.

No interest in Young or Downing?

Where Rooney's concerned, i am more bothered about others having him and me not "just in case" he explodes - that said, we have been saying this all season and despite his wonder goal nothing has changed - Utd are not the same away from home (2 players is enough for me)

What are the chances of getting news on Cahill before the deadline?

If I get Arteta then in GW29 i can do Wingie -> Saha, whereas if I get Cahill then i'll have to take a hit and do Wingie & Adam -> Saha & Gardner.

    Swaying towards Arteta - madness?

for my 2 free transfers think im guna do barton and a young in for fabs and adam. Is it right to go with young over cahill? With his fitness and dgw in doubt and playing a tricky sunderland team think it might be best wait a week and see then bout him. Also is barton near a ban? No he has 7 yellows in the league but cup counts aswell doesnt it? He wudnt be worth it if he was close to suspension, tanx guys.

I went to the Stoke VS Sunderland game and Sunderland were really poor dealing with crosses and the dreaded long throw.

If fit, Cahill will surely benefit from this
