Wayne Rooney has dodged a potential three-game violent conduct charge with the FA confirming this afternoon that they will take no further action over the clash with Wigan’s James McCarthy.

Rooney appeared to lead with his elbow in a clash with the Wigan midfielder during Manchester United’s 4-0 Premier League victory on Saturday but, with referee Mark Clattenburg acknowledging the incident at the time, the FA cannot act retrospectively within the current rules.

This now means that the influential number 10 will be available for United’s two key Premier League fixtures against Liverpool and Chelsea. It will come as a massive boost for Sir Alex Ferguson as the Red Devils look to preserve their 4 point lead on second place Arsenal. In Fantasy Premier League terms, Rooney’s escape could have significant bearing.

The elbow has been a major talking point since Saturday, with many high-profile figures voicing their opinions on the matter.

Sir Alex Ferguson has accused the press of a witch hunt against Rooney:

“There is nothing in it. But, what will happen, the question has been asked and because it is Wayne Rooney the press will raise a campaign to get him hung by Tuesday or electrocuted or something like that. It is unbelievable.”

Wigan manager Roberto Martinez unsurprisingly had a different opinion to the incident:

“If my player had done that, he would have been very, very lucky to stay on the pitch. It’s clearly a red card, Rooney was very fortunate. If you see it on the television, it is clear. It is an off-the-ball incident and the elbow catches McCarthy in his face. I saw the referee at half-time and he said he felt it wasn’t a red card; that he clipped him.”

Interestingly, former referee Graham Poll offered his view in this morning’s Daily Mail, stressing the he felt it was unlikely that the FA would take further action.

“The only possibility for a charge now would come if the FA send Clattenburg a clip of the incident and ask him to reconsider. They have not done this in recent memory, however, as it is considered ‘re-refereeing’.”

It appears that Poll was accurate of his assessment of the situation but, in many camps, the failure to act on what appears to be a blatant use of the elbow by Rooney, will cause ripples of controversy throughout the Premier League. Potentially, this decision could decide the fate of the title.

In the short-term, Ferguson’s lineup for trip to Stamford Bridge tomorrow night will now be of great interest. With Rooney free to start, Ferguson must now decide whether to have him lead his attack with Nani and Ryan Giggs (if fit) flanking either side in a 4-3-3/4-5-1, or perhaps start with two strikers. That could see Dimitar Berbatov restored to the starting XI, despite Javier Hernandez’s double at the DW Stadium. Alternatively there’s every possibility that Ferguson will shift Rooney out wide, perhaps taking him out of the middle of the park melting pot in what will likely be a lively encounter, fuelled by the weekend incident. That could see Nani on the opposite flank with Berbatov or Hernandez leading the attack.

Lads which one is better transfer?

Barton to Nasri, (Cahill for a hit)or
    Adam to Cahill/ Nasri

I know Cahill has a double but with Fabs probably out Nasri can do some serious damage. Nice fixture BTW and double GW 33 lets not forget. But Chaill has his own double earlier, but no signs on his form what soever. And Everton playing with 2 strikers upfront doesn't excites me that much in investing in him. The main problem IMO is if I go with Nasri, Cahill will be transferred/is present in a lot of teams and he can do some serious damage to the overall ranking.

    Cheers,

P.S. My rival has Young so he is not an option.

So mad u r basically pro Nasri, but what if Ars are down because of that losing final? Arteta is no no no 4me, I don't care if he scores its just I don't want to pick him 3rd time this season and be disappointed again.

I would do Kelly>Walker personally, but of those options I'd go Zigic since you have Coleman.

Or I'd go Beckford/Saha instead of Zigic, fitness permitting.

I think you have enough double coverage from Everton/Brum, but others would see it differently.

Just read this in the previous post:

Soop… just red what you wrote… you should better read and learn before talk.
if there was no DRE, there would be no Death Row, no Snoop, no EMINEM, no 50 cent maybe even Tupac wouldn’t be so famous.

so, without DRE, hip hop as you know it, wouldn’t be the same. period.

    respect DRE

Snoop has been good since riding on the coattails of the Neptunes excellent production, but Eminem and 50 cent can do one, I don't like Tupac, and for the most part Death Row can do one as well.

IMO, all of the stuff you mentioned is everything I hate about hip-hop and what it has become.

See below: I wrote in another topic that all Dre every raps about (every 5 years or so) is how people have forgotten about him.

Then people go up in arms because they lump his rapping in with his history (NWA, and admittedly successful producer).

He could have released several bad albums and made plenty of money between 1999 and now, but this new one had better be good after that long a wait. I was thinking the other day - whatever happened to Hitman and Melman who were on pretty much all of 2001? You'd expect some degree of solo success from an opportunity like that...

Hell, I went to see Beastie Boys at Brixton Academy and it was all punks and skaters.

and now we have the likes of Tinie Tempah who reminds me a little in essence of J5.

There's a place in my heart for Gin and Juice, Snoop Doggy Dog, and NWA... all that stuff. But it's a sort of kitschy sort fondness... in the same way you might enjoy watching Universal Soldier or Broken Arrow - but you'd never recommened them.

Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, MF Doom, Madlib, Madvillain, Cannibal Ox, Outkast, Raekwon, Public Enemy, Ghostface, Company Flow... these are people who have pushed hip hop forward and made it into an art form. Dr Dre just gets fat off pedestrian MOR beats. IMO. He's like the U2 of rock music.

Limpar, you have hit the nail on the head. I'm no expert, but I'd throw in Roots Manuva, Blackalicious, Method Man, Red Man, GZA and Busta Rhymes too.

Not all of them so much for innovation, but they're all very strong, and stand up as a benchmark of what you can do with the genre.

He was first choice before Coleman took his place on the right. Now Pienaar's gone, it looks like a straight fight between Osman and Bily for the left-wing spot.

Bily started the last 3 beofre Saturday but didn't play 90 minutes in any of them. Then on Saturday, Osman played 90 mins, Bily was on the bench. I wouldn't want to say for definite, but I'd guess Osman would keep his place. Keep an eye on Everton's cup game on Tuesday, see what happens there.

    (B)

that's a good point. Maybe rethink getting Nasri in and save the cash to get an extra Chelsea player in GW32 (Foster -> Cech?)

Aston Villa are a ridiculously good team to be on Fifa, the pace and the runners off the ball is better then most teams i've been, not to mention the giant oafs at the back. Just thrashed someone who was Chelsea 4-0.

    Team for this GW
    FOSTER
    COLEMAN, JOHNSON, Huth
    VDV, Silva, A Young, Nani
    Tevez, Berba, RVP.
    Stockdale, Barton, Rafael, Walker.

Transfer to make? If RVP or VDV are injured then I'd considered getting rid of them for Zigic or Bentley perhaps.

Would have to take a hit to get Baines in and other than that Everton players are either out of form (Cahill) injury prone (Saha) unreliable (Beckford/Arteta) so I'm not sure.

Hmm I only brought in Meireles on friday, it seems that transfer might be quite useless? I also have Barton, but with no solid injury update i'm going to wait with him. I also think I have a Westbrom overkill relying too much on Brunt and Odemwingie.

    GW29

    Foster
    Djourou Coleman Kolarov Huth
    A.Young Nani Brunt
    Berbatov Odemwingie Tevez

i think everyone did, and lots spend points on it too, i had my 2 freebies and got cahill and silva myself :S

cahill was more so prep for next week, everton better not draw or there will be heck to pay

at a score of 34 i only dropped 800 places, rather content with that

They keep showing promo's for the Old Firm derby, and that Scott Brown celebration keeps getting shown. I don't know if i would have been able to control my temper like Diouf did, it gets me angry just watching it!
