This morning’s reports are stating that Luis Nani will miss the next three games for Manchester United. This comes after the Portuguese winger suffered a deep gash in his leg from a wild Jamie Carragher “tackle” in the 3-1 defeat at Liverpool on Sunday.

If the reports are to be believed, Fantasy Managers should remain calm, given that the three games in question only include one in the Premier League – the gameweek 30 home clash with Bolton on March 19. The other fixtures involved are the FA Cup clash with Arsenal on Saturday and the Champions League second-leg tie with Marseille the following Tuesday.

In addition, should United draw against Arsenal on Saturday, the replay will postpone the visit of Bolton. That would hand United a blank in gameweek 30, giving Nani more time to recover. The suggestion is that Nani will be back in contention for a return for the trip to West Ham on April 2 in gameweek 31. There’s every possibility then that he will not miss any Premier League action should today’s reports be confirmed.

Any prolonged period of absence for Nani would have huge impact on the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game. The midfielder is currently owned by over 47.9% of Fantasy Managers and has already fetched 165 FPL points this season. So far however, given today’s reports, it seems unlikely that we will witness big sales of a player who has arguably been the key performer in our Fantasy seasons.

Having said that, Nani is currently topping the FPL rankings for “Transfers Out” amongst the midfielders – over 13,000 have so far got rid leading up to the gameweek 30 deadline on March 19. Presumably these Fantasy Managers have not had to suffer a significant loss of funds as a result of shedding Nani – a player who has risen to 10.1 from his starting value of just 8.0 in the FPL.

We are still awaiting official news from the United camp. But, with Alex Ferguson’s apparent reluctance to cooperate with the media at present, Nani’s own Twitter feed may prove a more significant source. Yesterday he shared this with his ‘followers’:

“thank you for your support after my injure. i hope to be back really soon.”

We await further updates.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

he is "out for a month" to make a point, even if he wasn't United would be letting this leak because they want to make as big a deal as possible about it with the FA, in all fairness, we need all the help we can get at the moment, maybe they might let Mike Dean ref our next 3 games or something as compensation.

my team is all over teh palce taken 16 points worth of hits over the last 3 weeks. I have at least 4 more players that need attention, this is very good news, one less person to worry about and means I may be in a position to not take any hits this week.

Its potentially good news, but equally he may not be back and it may be another uncertainty to add to the list. If the bone really was visible then i very much doubt he'll make any game inside of a month personally.

        It gets even better.

Obviously thousands of people are taking the piss on twitter about it and talking about how stupid people who voted for her are and how little she has done compared to (example - thatcher). So leona Lewis is trending for negative reasons with large %of people laughing at the poll and its results and the metro paper.

Still doesnt stop her "fans" defending her winning it and loving that she is trending without understanding its not exactly positive for Leona Lewis.

example:random woman fan on trending list.

"Going to make a coffee now after all the Leona excitement. keep her trending fans! Cant wait for her new music!!! x"

        Someone should tell her eh?

Poor Leona Lewis, she's getting slaughtered all round the place now when the morons are those who voted for her.

They say that all attention is good attention for people in show business though, she'll probably sell a few more mp3s now.

They had some cred at least 😉

Gona clutch a few straws here and make a bold statement....... 😀

As large sections of western society become more educated, intelligent and understand the world around them so do is there a dumbing down of a large percentage of people living in this same environment with new levels of stupidity never ceasing to amaze. Carl Sagan predicted such a divide 25 years ago with a world being built on science and technology where only a small % of people understanding the world they live in.

Call it Newtons 3rd law in perfect harmony on an intellectual level. 🙂

I don't really agree with it, it assumes too much and ignores past trends. Basically in the past no-one expected the masses and the lower classes to know or care much about politics and the like as they were expected to be largely uneducated. Their focus instead was on their daily lives and diversions such as sport or whatever.
Nowadays with everyone pretty much receiving a good education people expect the masses to be interested in the so called 'higher pursuits'. The majority won't be unless it directly impacts upon their daily life, and often it doesn't.
Anyway we can't cob stones prattling away on a Fantasy Football site 🙂

I agree with Atilla and DB

I think DBs point is that back years and years ago , everyone needed to have some ability at everything, or they wouldnt get by,
now you dont need to know anything about running your car, heck even cooking,
you can have that one thing , your job , that is your talent ,and ride the coat tails of society for everything else

And I'm sort of surprised it's not Cheryl Cole. It's almost like they've answered the question "WOMAN" with the first thing that pops into their heads, although quite what LL has done lately I'm not sure.

Maybe give this a read if you have time. Interesting study which may lead to policy change in future (from CHO (carbohydrate) based meals to fat based meals (good fats not the saturates)

Where does it mention the side effects? It's basically the "Atkins diet" in a clinical trial.

I naturally eat a lot of protein anyway, but I could never give up toast or the odd sandwich.

          Or pancakes or potatoes.

Dont believe there are any side effects when controlled properly. One draw back is it would be hard to follow patients for a very long period of time which needs to be done.

Its interesting in the context that under as you said clinical setting while also being administered multivitamins and essential oils the lower CHO diet was much more effective not just at weight loss but improving blood cholesterol. There is a debate regarding what the body is "naturally" and "genetically" wired to eat which should be interesting to follow in future.

It would very much depend on your circumstances. If your were an athlete or indeed regular gym going folk then you would not be able to perform resistance exercise with no glycogen (cho) in your muscles anywhere near the level you could under normal "higher cho diet". So taking CHO prior to exercise is warranted.

I find it interesting from the obesity stand point. Could be interesting in future as more of these studies appear. I perhaps like yourself was very wary of "aktins" due to media coverage. But looking at the controlled research it seems positive from health perspective once essential vitamins and oils are also taken in.

Just the media and indeed those who pushed atkins have very very shady backgrounds and were generally linked to alot of nonsense.

            But the science is promising.

first sentence should have read *that many side effects when controlled properly. As you can see some did suffer constipation. Most likely induced due to reduced fibre intake.

Also it generally takes the body 2-4 weeks to adjust to relying solely on fats as energy source.

Nani will start regardless but will go back to the left, and when Valencia is rested he will go to the right and Giggs will come in on the left. Nani now looks like he can play both sides, whereas last year he looked ineffective on the left and razzle dazzling on the right.

I took him out just now for Messi, they say 10-15 days from the 4th of March, so he could very well be back, I am just not taking the risk with that kindof money, and where I had Ibra/Ronaldo and Eto'o and no Messi.

That being said, the last few weeks have confirmed what I always knew that when you over-think transfers it can come back to bite you, buddy of mine has same team for past 2 rounds and he will no doubt forget the transfer deadline tonight, Ronaldo will play, and score a hat trick, whereas I predicting that he may be out, and being overly cautious have removed him and Messi will do nought! Also on the block is Nani and Walcott for me, will wait for line ups later.

Think Shahkhtar might smash Roma tonight.

I read Shahktar are undefeated for their last 11 European home games and won every home game in the group stage - and in their last 55 home games in all competition they have not lost, and won a staggering 51 times.

I was just thinking about the run in to the end of the season. The last month can be so tricky as clubs that have league positions sewn up or have big CL games rotate players like crazy. It will be hard to know what to do. Make sure you have good subs is the best policy, I think.

In this case 50 overs (an over consisting of six bowls) or all the batsmen being dismissed.

needs to bat well now. he's been massively overperforming with the ball this world cup and doing nothing with the bat so hopefully he'll do the opposite now. it's crazy that he's the top scoirng player despite scoring just like a bowler as there are loads of better bowlers in the tournament

it highlighted a lot of flaws in cricket that innings. like if you move across your stumps you can turn everything into a leg side slog. then if the bowler tries to compensate and bowl to your off side it just ends up being a wide. still though was shocking bowling by the pakistan attack, malinga was needed there to york the sh** out of taylor

The bowler is allowed to follow the batsman and it wouldn't be a wide.

If the batsman moves to the off the bowler can bowl wider of off and it be a legitimate delivery... even if it would normally have been a wide.

It's not a flaw in cricket at all... if you move to the offside so you can play everything straight to the legside you need to play across the line... if you are good enough to do that for any length of time you deserve the runs you get.
