Birmingham grind out a point at Goodison to bring the curtain down on the gameweek. A battle of attrition passed by without major talking points and Fantasy returns, aside from another injury for Mikel Arteta. The Spanish playmaker looks set for a spell on the sidelines, just as he had begun to offer glimpses of form and Fantasy fetching potential. Down at the Lane meanwhile, Spurs clung on to 0-0 scoreline against AC MIlan to earn progress to a Champions League Quarter-Final and pile more pressure on their run-in schedule.

David Moyes made just one change to his lineup that earned the three points at Newcastle – John Heitinga came into the midfield holding role to replace the injured Phil Neville. It was the Dutchman who earned Everton a share of the spoils, blasting home from outside the box on 35 minutes.

Moyes was forced into a tactical change after just 7 minutes with playmaker Mikel Arteta suffering a hamstring injury. The Everton boss reacted by introducing Seamus Coleman who again started life on the bench in this game. The Irishman assumed his role on the right-flank with Osman shifting to Arteta’s position on the left.

The loss of Arteta came as a major blow to Everton on the night. They seemed bereft of ideas and with the likes of Tim Cahill and Marouane Fellaini also sidelined, David Moyes acknowledged that he is struggling to find midfield inspiration…

“We don’t know the extent of Mikel’s injury yet, but obviously it’s a hamstring…And losing him was a big blow for us because we needed some creativity. I knew if we didn’t have him we were going to be struggling to create too much…Leon Osman had a go, but otherwise we were struggling to make things happen.”

While Everton’s run of forthcoming opponents looks kind enough (FUL AVL wol BLA), Fantasy Managers are running out of options and will be worried that the Toffees will offer limited returns at both ends in the coming weeks. The mounting injuries at Goodison do at least appear to offer Seamus Coleman greater opportunities to regain his starting role on the Everton flank. We should expect him to start against Fulham in gameweek 30 once we have confirmation of a term of absence for Arteta. The Spaniard left Goodison on crutches and scan results this week are likely to shed the light on a full prognosis.

Alex McLeish made three changes to the Birmingham lineup that suffered a home defeat to West Brom at the weekend. Martin Jiránek returned from injury to take his place in defence with Curtis Davies making way. Seb Larsson also returned to a five-man midfield in with Obafemi Martins dropping out. Keith Fahey was also missing, he suffered a groin injury in training so Jordon Mutch earned a start.

Birmingham suffered an early injury of their own – David Bentley pulled up with groin problem and was replaced after just 9 minutes. He will be a doubt going into the FA Cup tie with Bolton this weekend as McLeish’s casualties continue to mount up. McLeish offered this on the Bentley injury…

“Bentley came in before the warm up was finished saying he felt a twinge in his groin,” he added…Although the medics and physio’s had a go at him and he felt he could start, he was clearly not okay. It will probably be a scan tomorrow for him and on Friday we will know the extent.”

Nikola Zigic was only fit enough for a bench role and saw action on 73 minutes. The Serb ended the gameweek with just a single point then – hardly the anticipated returns ahead of Birmingham’s double fixture.

Defensively there was at least profit for both Roger Johnson and keeper Ben Foster. The latter made 8 saves on the night, while Johnson earned another maximum 3 Fantasy Premier League Bonus Points – his total of 17 for the season is bettered only by Bolton’s Gary Cahill.

Birmingham’s fixtures offer some potential and incentive for holding onto their assets (wig BOL bla SUN/che). A double fixture is still possible in gameweek 33 but that depends on events in the FA Cup; should Birmingham get past Bolton then they would lose their home clash with Sunderland in that gameweek.

Harry Redknapp made four changes from the side that drew at Wolves on Sunday. Rafael Van der Vaart and Peter Crouch were paired up front, while Aaron Lennon returned on the right-flank with Vedran Corluka recovering from injury to take up the full-back role behind him. Ledley King was back on the bench as an option for Redknapp – threatening his first action since October. He was joined by Gareth Bale who was not considered fit enough for s start but was introduced for a tiring Van der Vaart on 67 minutes.

Tottenham’s progress will now see them play a two-legged Quarter-Final with the opening tie taking place on April 5/6. That will follow Tottenham’s gameweek 31 trip to Wigan. The second leg on April 12/13 will follow the gameweek 32 home encounter with Stoke.

Rotation will therefore be a concern for both those gameweeks with the likes of Van der Vaart and Bale particularly vulnerable. Having said that, Redknapp will of course be keen to continue the push for a top four Premier League finish and faces a juggling act as a result. There’s no denying that, from a Fantasy perspective, Tottenham’s forthcoming run of opponents looks favourable with a double fixture also currently scheduled in gameweek 33, pending FA Cup results (WHM wig STK mcy/ARS WBA).

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

rooney is the obvious choice i know but bolton have been in good form and have a good record at old trafford plu sberb takes a lot of rooneys points at OT.

with bent against a wolves team thats poor away he could grab 2 or 3 goals especially if he takes teh pens off young

gamble or play safe, thats the question i guess

Why on earth would you think he might take the pens off Young? Unless you have some evidence to back it up that's horrifically woolly thinking.

Dude from Zonalmarking ripping the piss out of people who are saying Zlatan is not a big game player.

"Having a good old laugh by putting 'Ibrahimovic big game' into twitter's search box, Is a second round Champions League match really a 'big' game? Only if playing against English opposition, it seems - very odd. That has 'big game' status over El Clasico, Milan derbies, last day of the season when need to win to lift the league title, apparently...(all games he scored in)
Ibrahimovic scored in last year's second round against Stuttgart (when Barca were getting a kicking, too) - doubt that is seen as 'big game'"

    He has a point.

Agreed there are better strikers but that doesnt mean he isnt a top drawer striker cos there are more better. You dont say Eto isnt a top drawer striker cos Ronaldo, Villa & Messi are better.

And the money Clubs paid for him is irrelevant and nothing to do with him, His record is whats important.

I'm just going by what i have seen. Watched him playing for Sweden a few times with King Henrik. He couldn't lace henrik's boots

          Thats not really my point.

It using whether you like them or not in the same context with their ability and performances.

Like who I think Messi is better than Ronaldo cos Ronaldo always looks arrogant. This kind of stuff.

Your talking about a separate thing here.

Of course thats part of the game. I mean whether a person is a good guy or not shouldnt be used to define his ability.

Completely different things. Marcotti was complaining about the same thing last week when people were giving out they didnt rate Balotelli as a player cos he didnt smile when he scored.

It is a separate thing I guess, we watch the sport for fun so don't need to give non-biased appraisals like journos have to for a living.

Marcotti is a good example for me, I don't like him both because he's a c*nt but also because he does a very poor job.

I think it would be inaccurate to say that a player's pesonality doesn't effect his ability as a player though.

The example of Balotelli is a prime one for this. He acts like a prime tool at times, getting himself wound up and sent off for no reason. I imagine teammates also find it hard to build a team spirit with him around.

Of course you are discussing whether someone likes or dislikes someone is not relevant to ability but if they dislike a player for example because they are arrogant then that arrogant part of their personality can have an impact on their ability to play within a team. Also someone like JT, for example, can effect a team with their personality and it can be these qualities, which effect their value to a team, that also impact on whether a player is liked or disliked.

The lines are fuzzy, it's not as straight forward as you make out.

              LOL, that's a good analogy.

Not sure I do agree with the last part. Isn't there proof in the premier league at least, that you need a backbone of homegrown or British players to really succeed.

Personally I do feel that committment is a major part of this game, look at Fabregas this year for example.

My thoughts on BAE were gleaned from watching games of football not listening to interviews.

Yes but your equating his performances and linking them to the fact he doesnt love the club

On the backbone of English stuff. The a pretty silly remark to make. Correlation doesnt mean causation

The fact the league is english based would obviously give this result but it doesnt mean if you remove the english/ Uk players you cant win the league

Oh look :VDS, Vidic, Fletcher, Ronaldo,Tevez

1 british player backbone who won the double in 2008 (im joking just to merely point out how pointless this backbone thing can be)

Besides i never used my defence of his character as a comment on his ability.

it annoys me that some players cant do an interveiw without mentioning how much they love the club and the fans, remember Robbie keans "i love liverpool, i love celtic" comments

I wouldn't be rushing to get nasri and young out for lampard based on the fixtures for next gw. Obviously if arsenal end up having a blank then that will change things.

Is anyone clued up with the sunderland defence? want to get a player in but only have the option of Ferdinand or Mensah. will either of them still play when Onuoha and Turner return from injury? (this is not for FPL, another game where Ferdinand and Mensah are cheaper than the obvious pick of Bramble).

I'm a season ticket holder and sunderland's first choice back four are onuoha bramble mensah and bardo and that includes if everyone's back fit. Turner will be pushing for a place but he's weeks off being fit anyway. You have to pick mensah over ferdinand as ferdinand's purely a stop gap but be wary of mensah's injury record, i.e. a blade of grass could take him out. Also not sure when onuoha's back, had problems with his calf.

If I'm gonna take another hit I'll probably go Barton > Adam.

          Who are you prioratising?

So charlie is back this week, supposedly, and that means my injuries are limited to a doubtful Barton and Nani - correct?

I remember last time when Toons star player had tight injury and he was supposed to be back in no time. He hasn't still completed 90mins since his injury. So be wary. Doubtful? Back next week. Yeah right.

Apparently barton will definately be playing at weekend, been saying in local press so I wouldn't worry about him too much. Nani on the otherhand....

Ya, don't make me regret it even more. But if the injured time is true, then i had a team with arteta, szczesny, kelly all injured. so not that bad a move.

Perhaps he should spend less time Twitterring and playing consoles and more time exercising his back?

So, if Spurs had a run of fixtures like this earlier in in the season (seriously, 7 of their next 8 gameweeks have genuine potential) then I would get both Bale and VDV in a flash.

Is there any reason why I shouldn't now?
