The FA Cup serves up a Manchester derby in the last four, as City see off Championship Reading with a second-half Micah Richard’s goal. The ecstatic Eastlands celebrations failed to disguise the fact that Roberto Mancini’s side again failed to impress, relying on a set-piece winner as their multi-millionaires struggled to pick Reading’s lock. As Fantasy Managers contemplate a forthcoming blank gameweek for Carlos Tevez and company, the stock in City’s assets continues to slide.

At the Britannia meanwhile, Stoke City made progress courtesy of more dead-ball deciders. Robert Huth’s connection with a Roy Delap slingshot and Danny Higginbotham’s free-kick proved enough to dispose of a resurgent West Ham.

On-loan John Carew missed out on the chance to lead the line for Stoke’s Quarter Final showdown with West Ham; a back injury kept the big Norwegian on the sidelines, allowing Kenwyne Jones to take his place alongside Jonathan Walters up front. Danny Higginbotham started at left-back for the hosts as Tony Pulis welcomed Matthew Etherington back to his starting line-up. After an impressive performance in the first 45 minutes against his former club, the winger’s main contribution was a miss from a dubiously awarded penalty, as the home side avenged their recent 3-0 trashing at Upton Park to set up a Semi Final date with Bolton.

Robert Huth continued his outstanding goalscoring season for the hosts, netting the opener direct from a Rory Delap throw-in, while Higginbotham’s free-kick proving to be the match-winner. Thomas Sorensen, preferred to Asmir Begovic for Stoke’s cup games this season, kept the Hammers at bay time and again in the second half as Pulis’ side held on for victory. The Stoke manager hailed the club’s “Fantastic Achievement“ in reaching the Semi Finals, which -as Andy has mentioned- will take place in the weekend of gameweek 33, with the league fixture (at home to Wolves) to be subsequently rescheduled. There is a chance that this will remain in gameweek 33, with the fixture shifted to a midweek April 20 slot – that is yet to be confirmed.

Avram Grant chose to leave Demba Ba out of his squad – resting the Senegalese striker after his recent back-to-back appearances. Grant started with Carlton Cole up front at the Britannia then, with Freddie Piquionne providing support. Piquionne began well, putting the Hammers in front with a dubious opener having appeared to have handled a Thomas Hitzlsperger pass. The striker was however injured in the process of bundling home the goal and was forced off after just 36 minutes. He will now be a doubt for the gameweek 30 trip to West Ham. With Robbie Keane ineligible for that match, Grant will have just Ba and Obinna as obvious options up front.

The other FA Cup Semi Final will be all Manchester affair, after Micah Richards finally broke Reading’s resistance late in the second-half at Eastlands. The full-back headed home a David Silva corner to banish the Royals’ hopes but City’s performance was lethargic at best. With this being their sixth game in seventeen days, however, the below-par display is perhaps understandable. Silva was an impressive exception for the home side, continually prompting and probing in the final third of the pitch, though the same cannot be said for Carlos Tevez, who, yet again, looked a shadow of his former self – a concern for his many Fantasy owners.

Aleksander Kolarov -previously fielded left of a front three by Roberto Mancini- played at left-back this time round but his set-piece duties were still a threat, and the City boss gave rare starts to the likes of Shaun Wright-Phillips and Patrick Veira as he attempted to freshen up the side following a long trip home from Moscow on Thursday night. Mancini also chose to bench big-money forwards Edin Dzeko and Mario Balotelli, with the latter coming on for a forgettable 20 minute appearance halfway through the second half, as City limped into their first Semi Final for 30 years.

City’s semi-final appearance will fall in gameweek 33 of course, postponing their league fixture with Spurs on April 17. Harry Redknapp’s side already have a fixture on April 20 with Arsenal, so the City vs Spurs game will certainly drop out of the gameweek and leave Roberto Mancini’s side with a blank. City now have 3 away games and a blank in their next 5 gameweeks – not an appealing prospect for owners of City’s assets.

Tevez/Kolarov OUT for me is a no-brainer in the next few with a blank in 33 and Tevez' terrible form, RVP and previously Djourou IN, not anymore though, with a backline of:

Huth/Coleman/Walker/Carr/KOLAROV and money is no object, who would folk bring in for Kolarov? I am thinking Luiz

I'd agree with Luiz, although Chelsea have only kept 4 clean sheets in the last 10 games. Great fixtures though, and a double in 33.

Well he has Chelsea away this weekend, so with current form you can't expect too much, that being said if you have more pressing transfers he usually raises his game for the top 4 sides, I am keeping this weekend and shipping next week, he is too expensive to be doing nought.

I want to sell him against Che but I did it last year and he scored a brace together with 3BP. On the plus side, Che were in way better form than now. I would love to get RVP but he is in danger to be injured in the internationals. I can't sit and wait for RVP to come back from Internationals, cause most probably he won't get back fit. That leaves me with Sun game for Tevez which is OK. IF RVP is still fit GW 32 I'll do the transfer so be it. If everything is ok I will save the transfer now. I might loose 0.1 - 0.2 with this plan but so be it.

yeah on current form i would ship him out...but he raises his game agaisnt top 4...and he has a very good goal scoring record agaisnt chelsea too

and bigger thn that i have other options to take care of too like-- djouru, evaat, kolarov, zigic and probably saha and coleman too in some time...so may be i would look to other syd of my team and would hold on to tevez for may be next 2 gamweek, but again there is a risk of missing out on points on rvp, ronney and may be berbatov also in the gamweek...:|

    Gents,

Any news on Dave Bentley? I saw he was out of the FA Cup game but cannot find any more news if he is back for the weekend.

My team is a bit of a mess:

    Foster / Begovic
    Rafael / Kolorov / Coleman / Kelly / Walker
    Nani / Arteta / Lampard / Bentley / Adam
    Tévez / Odem / Rooney

Now, i'm going to keep Kelly as he could be back for week 31, Arteta -> VDV is fine but if Bentley and Nani are not fit then I'm forced to play Tévez and Kolorov and have no subs.

Thinking of Tévez -> RVP for a -4. Wise?

If you sub out Baines then you're subbing out the only defender in the game who is probably on penalties. And he has total set piece dominance for a while now, with some decent centre-backs to get on the end of things. And great fixtures. Big potential to hurt you, is what I'm saying. Just a thought.

Second option makes most sense to me, Walker is a bargain, and RVP and VDV are the guys to have in Arsenal and Spurs, if only for the fact they hog set pieces.

I am looking at Kolarov or Tevez OUT this week but may hold firm and have 2 free next week, Barton will go for me too as he has been injured for 50% of the "easy" games I got him in for.

Second option is the way to go, not sure is it worth 8 this weekend though, maybe only Kolarov OUT this weekend and Barton OUT this weekend for 4, Tevez usually does well in the big games, and I am holding him this week for that reason I think. That being said, RVP is tempting me too.

Tevez out for RVP and Djourou for Dawson is my likely 4 pointer for this week, assuming Nani is actually going to be fit (looking more likely).

Ill sit on Barton as i wont be playing him i dont think, ill swap him for O'hara for the run in i think (once gwk 33 blank is out of the way).

Agree. Also the mignolet transfer will either be inspired or come back to haunt you in a few gw's time. Was saying in the local press that gordon going to be assessed this week to see if he needs surgery with estimated time out either one month or six depending how bad it is so keep a track of that

The safe option for me this week is Djourou out for Walker, no hits

The slight gamble option is Coleman out for Luiz, no hits.

The drunken evil kenievel kamikazee all or nothing option is Barton and Tevez out for Lampard and Wellbeck, 4pt hit.

that is the gamble. I think he'll play too...

I know I'll do the safe option, but I can but dream of the more gamblicious moves. I've noticed on here that those that do very well have the amazing knack of making seemingly ludicrous moves just at the right time. the evil keneival move still appeals. I like Wellbeck as well at the moment and can't afford another no show from that tinker Joey.

jamsiep is Drogbas gametime now limited? Im trying to work out the full potential of Frank. If Drogbas not on the pitch, I guess Frank takes all free kicks/corners. I have an option of either Frank or Torres. I know the obvious choice based on form, but I just feel Torres will find form this season.

I can't see Drogba playing too much over the next few weeks, he was absolutely awful when given his chance against Blackpool.

As for Lampard, set piece duties (other than penalties) don't make too much difference IMO. He hasn't scored a free kick in over two years, and we don't score too many goals from his corners - I know we scored from one against Blackpool, but they are dreadful at defending set pieces!

It's not chasing last week's points...here is a player who has consistently scored huge points in FPL, I've just been waiting for him to hit form again and it appears he now has.

I may give it one more game, but it certainly isn't a knee-jerk points chase. It's not like he's some random Blackpool player who has just banged in a couple of goals.

ignore me. i see you need to get rid of arteta anyway so probably nothing wrong with getting lamps now if you'd want him for gw32 anyway. i think there are tonnes of better midfielders in the next couple of gameweeks (vdv, n'zogbia, bale, adam, nasri, fabregas just for the blackburn game) but they would eat up a transfer. plus of course lampard could outscore them all anyway as paper seems to mean little this season

If you were going to get him, either last week or GW32 was/is the time to get him.

Like a lot on here, I fully expected a decent haul against Blackpool (although not quite 19 points), but I chose Nasri instead as over a three game period (to GW32) I expected Nasri to outscore him. Unlikely now, but I still expect Nasri to outscore Lampard over the next two to even it up slightly.

Just don't see the real need to bring him in against Man City and away to Stoke. After that, fair enough.

Seems like people are throwing caution to the wind the last couple of GWs with lots of hits. I think I'd find it difficult to justify a 4pt hit this week, let alone 8.

People should have no problem fielding a full 11, and there are no DGWs, so really to take a hit it has to be for a player with great form and a good fixture so you can captain them. RVP looks like the only candidate really, and most people can do this without a hit by shipping Tevez.

looks like a classic case of dodgy reporting feeds fpl, which then trickles down to thousands of fpl managers. you should be able to trust the red and yellow markers on fpl but unfortunately fpl is a victim of a quote about nani that doesn't seem to have ever been said

Damn, the Djourou injury was all my team needed.

With kelly allready out and nani/barton/VDV doubtful.

Tevez now having a blank in gw33 and cr*p fixtures makes it a bit easier i suppose.

So with a current front 3 of tevez/saha/berba do I play these 3 and sell djourou for say Luiz this week or do i first sell tevez for Rvp this week.

Tevez > RVP carries slightly more risk for you, but you'll probably get away with a full 11 starters, and it is the far better transfer. You will probably captain RVP too which makes the decision even easier.

Donners - thks for the feedback.

Intention was not to capt rvp, but rather one of nani/berba/vdv/young.

Tough call though, since vdv/nani/berba might not get a full 90min which is annoying.

Benefit with LUIZ is that he has a double and decent fixtures. maybe i should just field 11 and not do a trsfr. a lot can happen in a week.

Fair enough, if you are not that confident in RVP this GW then it is a less appealing transfer. I want him for captain so it's easier.

Prediction for what will be the most asked question this week:

    Bale or VDV.

Normally an easy choice this time it is hard. Defoe & VDV just doesn't work aswell and he doesn't score well. Defoe looks like he might hit some form, so i doubt he'll be dropped for Crouch. VDV is on pens and set pieces. Bale lets you spread some extra funds around.

I'm going VDV and I've not even considered Bale but maybe I should, like u say the extra cash does come in handy. Only thing to consider tho is Bale MIGHT play LB in some games with Pienaar as LM, Arry still talks up Bale as a LB.
