Anyone out there play Fifa 11 Ultimate Team, well I started yesterday and my team is crraaaaaapppp, onviously. I played a few average players, I say this, because I was better but I couldn’t compete with the pace of their better teams.
So, I went into the market, signed a 75 rated midfielder, and when I put him in my team it said that his contract had expired, so does this mean I bought a dud player? If so, wtf? What do I do? I presume you just have to bunker in and play 5 man defences to get points in the early days to upgrade your team?
That contract expiry put me right off, so I had seconds to decide whether I wanted to bid for him and then he can’t play?!

ha, I actually did that yesterday and was directed to useless Gamespot boards which didn't really deal with it, plus, my query is wider than that, I am sure it is not as complex as it appears, but I agree with Jonty, it is most un-user friendly

ya, I was put off instantly, and not because I was beaten 7-0 and then 5-0 by less skilled players, but because all those cards and stuff were confusing, and then the fact I transferred in or bought someone and couldn't play him was head wrecking

For the quick answer you will need to purchase a contract to give him. Go to trading, search, development, contracts to do so.
A couple of tips for Ultimate Team
There are three ways of improving your team
1) The hard slog - playing in tournaments (stick to single player early on as you'll inevitably come up against a shit hot team in 2 player). The more games you play and cups you win the more points you'll get to sign players
2) Spending ACTUAL money. Bit of a scam by FIFA you can purchase packs of players with your credit card. Up to you but I prefer the next option
3) The Del Boy - keep your eye on a certain player, Juan the Roma and Brazil centreback for example. Judge his average sale price (on the PS3 around about 1000), anytime you see him below say 800 buy him, then sell him with a minimum price of 800 thus anything over the top is the profit. A bit time consuming but you can rack up some serious points with shrewd investment.
I made 12,000 points on one player doing this.
A hugely important factor is deciding which team you are trying to create. DO NOT pick premier league players, particularly Man Utd, Arsenal or Chelsea. They are hugely overpriced, (quite realistic I suppose 😉 )
You have to bear in mind that every little glory hunter wants Man Utd players so loads of competition to sign them.
I decided to create an all Brazilian side, there are tons of really good players and although Kaka may be high priced there are always really good other options that are nearly as good for a fraction of the cost.

No problem, remember on FIFA pace is the best asset a player has so keep that in mind when you're looking to sign.
ah, I thought you had to play online for points? I was wondering what the Single Player option was. I was playing teams with an overall of around 82 to my 40 odd, and even though I was playing better football, my players were just too slow for the speedy 82 overall players
No single player tournaments give you points too. Less than online but far, far easier. Especially at the start when you have a crap team.

The Inter keeper Caesar, I got him for an absolute bargin 9k and sold him on for nearly 22k.
I already had him for 11k, keep you're eye out if you're up late there is always a bargain about. Made 6k off Hulk and about 3.5k on Peter Cech.
Sheesh, nicely done. I've gotten a few late night bargains, Bent for 750 being the standout!
You must have a lot of coins, I rarely have over 5 or 6k unfortunately.
Keep reinvesting so I've not that much at the mo, maybe around 20k ish. Just got Pato who seems pretty good, would like to get Kaka but he's so damned expensive, same with Danny Alves and Maicon.
Annoyingly the best formations are really pricey to train your players in too so trying to sort that as well.
Yeah, you must have a very good side now, no more 9-0s 😉 ! I'm saving up to buy Ozi now, he's the final piece of the jicksaw in my pretty average La Liga team 😀

It is awesome RBJ, and @ Johhny U, A pacey player that got me through the crap stages was Abate, RM AC milan. On PS3 You can get him at 700 ish, then Carew is a good buy. Great in the air, with an upgrade to Chamakh. Who is class, he will win a lot in the air and isn't terrible on the floor. You can get him about 2k on PS3 and cheapo on xbox (1k), I play Chamakh atm and I have The likes of Walcott A.Young, Nasri..... Yes, I went for the overpriced prem players.
And I am now saving for A.Cole/R.Ferdinand.
@ Superm, there is a 4.5k tournament (offline) coming out in a few days, only condition is you are only aloud one nationality, which isn't to bad, I am getting a team sorted to Spam that tournament. On World Class so not to hard either. 🙂 🙂

Trying to work out where to go with the team... Do I have too much tied up in Defs? Any dead wood people would suggest getting rid of?
Thinking of getting rid of either Kolarov or Coleman for Walker? Going to bring in Lamps for A Young for nxt GW and contemplating the Tevez > RVP and maybe Berba > Rooney or even Hernandez (Think he may well play most games from here on in)

I think ditching Djourou has to be the priority. This time of year rotation, missed matches and injuries make it vital to potentially field as many of your 15 as possible. Djourou is out for the season and his price will plummet. Swap him for Walker.
Kolorov and coleman can wait. Coleman has a good fixture this week and is more likely to play with Arteta out.
I hate Kolorov...so get rid of him next.
Here's a thought. Kolorov may do better with Kolo Toure out.
Kolo Toure cannot be called "Toure" because that's Yaya's name also. They will become confused.
So they must use "Kolo and Kolorov". Kolorov may be used to being called "Kolo" and misenterpret calls from team-mates. Not any more though!
How soon could Djourou's price drop? Surely it can only drop until everyone has got rid of him (which shouldn't take too long) and then it'll stay the same?

I thought that last season when Bikey fell out of favour. He ended up plummeting quite a lot over time, even among his meagre owners. Lost a lot on that fella, I won't be making the same mistake again.
Id wouldnt be surprised to see him playing again in a few weeks.
Other playes have (Fuller). I did the same and it took about 2-3 weeks to play again once swelling went down on ligaments - which he seems to be implying is all that is wrong now.
Agree with most of that, but I don't think his price will fall that quickly - only about 5% ownership, so about 100,000 people have him, they won't all sell straight away.
Definitely do Djourou to Walker, though, Coleman and Kol might be rotation risks, but Djourou is definitely out.

Feeling real good about holding my fire and hanging on to Adam, Van der Vaart and Nani for the past 3 gw's. Didn't panic or take any hits when my squad looked to be in trouble and reaping the rewards now.

I find it surprising that people pu more/less stock in what people say depending on their overall rank. I remember someone disputing the quality of my advice based on my awful rank around the beginning of the season.
It's much more useful in my mind to get insight into why someone thinks what they think.

I see your point but I will probably continue to assume (maybe incorrectly) that someone ranked in the top 1000, with almost 300 more points than me and who has out scored me in 21 of the 29 weeks probably knows more about what he's doing than me lol
For the record, I'm not convinced that Zigic will play and I'm already taking a risk with having Suarez so I'm thinking of bringing RVP&Ferguson (yes I know he's a doubt) in for Zigic&Arteta hoping for more points..........that may just show my inexperience even more though lol so please let me know if you think I could do better 🙂

I'd play safe rather than take hits if you're out in front. It's making up ground that means you have to gamble surely.

Providing Fabregas is fit for West Brom, I'd concern myself more with getting rid of Arteta, possibly for Bale.

Everyone and their dog want Lampard in now, include me and my dog. I think he will score well from now until the end of the season, and I think the 4-4-2 is giving him further licence to charge into the box, particularly where the 2 up front are misfiring. Keep.

VdV is injury prone, he won't get as many minutes as Bale for as long as Spurs are still in the Champions League imo. Bale had an amazing end to last season too, he was one of the reasons they qualified for the Champions League. Some of their bigger players are certainly going to have to step up if they're going to qualify again.

I had him for his DGW and another week before his break and he did nothing(then i got rid... unfortunately).
He is infuriatingly inconsistent, but when he's in the zone he can score serious points. A front 3 of RVP Rooney and Defoe could cause carnage these next 3 gameweeks.
Getting Lamps as well for GW32 will mean a defence including the likes of Elokobi and Simpson, but I do like the look of Lamps Nasri Nani and VdV in the middle.
