As Premier League managers look to patch up their squads, greedily jumping on any niggles to keep their star assets out of the international firing line, the task for Fantasy Managers never lets up. Every morsel of news must be filtered and hovered up in earnest with today’s snippet round-up offering the latest murmurings on the Tevez injury, a fresh tweet from Cesc Fabregas and Wenger’s mission to sharpen up Jens Lehman…

Carlos Tevez is reportedly “in a race against time” to be fit for Man City’s gameweek 31 fixture with Sunderland at Eastlands. According to the latest reports the Argentine has suffered “a 2mm tear an adductor muscle” – an injury that saw him preserved as City took on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. The report suggests that had Tevez played, he risked injury that would have ruled him out for the rest of the season. The loss of Tevez was of course a major blow as Roberto Mancini’s side slipped to a damaging 2-0 defeat.

Mancini will want his skipper back as soon as possible but will surely have one eye on the FA Cup semi-final with United on April 16. His Fantasy owners will now be concerned that, if Tevez carries a risk going into the Sunderland game, he could be kept out of the action again as Mancini looks to keep him fit for a match that will ultimately decide whether City come away with silverware this season.

James Collins will skipper Wales against England on Saturday. That’s significant news for Fantasy Managers because his return to fitness from a calf problem will now surely bolster Villa’s defence as they look to curb an alarming slide into the relegation mire. Most significantly, it boosts the appeal of budget Fantasy option, Kyle Walker. Walker has been outstanding for Villa since his arrival at the club but has had his defensive potential cut by a string of injuries to team-mates. Walker needs the likes of Collins to return in order to up his returns over what remains a favourable run-in for Gerard Houllier’s side.

Collins was recently fined by the club, along with fellow defensive stalwart Richard Dunne, following drinking sessions on a “club bonding trip”. The pair of centre-backs have not played together since last month with Dunne is still recovering from a dislocated shoulder. The Irishman was ruled out for “three-to-four weeks” on March 4 and must therefore also be in with a chance of a return in gameweek 31 when Villa take the trip to Goodison.

Cesc Fabregas has informed the world that he is back in training following his latest hamstring prang. Fabregas spread the news via the medium of twitter yesterday…

“I started running today for the first time so I’m very happy to be back outside.”

It is now reported that the Arsenal skipper could be back in contention for the gameweek 31 clash with Blackburn at the Emirates, a potentially profitable match-up for the Spaniard in Fantasy terms. Arsene Wenger will not want to take any risks with Fabregas however, and may yet protect him for that match, with a gameweek 33 double fixture with Liverpool and Spurs on the horizon.

If fit, Fabregas will surely be on the mind of Fantasy Managers for that double, although with Chelsea and Frank Lampard also experiencing two fixtures in gameweek 33, funds may well be stretched. The majority of Fantasy squads will surely lineup with Lampard and Robin Van Persie for that gameweek, with one of Andrey Arshavin or Samir Nasri also in the midfield.

Jens Lehman could well be in the Arsenal goal for that gameweek 33 double header. The German is widely tipped to be handed a chance following his much-publicised return to the club and Manuel Almunia’s latest caper in the 2-2 draw with West Brom at the weekend.

Aresene Wenger refused to confirm or deny that Lehman was in his plans for the home clash with Blackburn up next, but confirmed that the German stopper was still someway short of the sharpness levels required…

“He (Lehmann) looks like a guy who’s not been involved for a long time but has kept his body fit. He has the basic physical fitness but he lacks a little bit of decision-making and practice in goal…Would I consider starting him? I’m not going to get into that now, we now have two weeks.”

They Daily Mail reports that Wenger is desperate for Lehman to see reserve action to help him get up to speed and join Arsenal’s title tilt. However, Wenger’s reserves do not play again until next Tuesday at Wigan; that may not be enough preparation to see Lehman in the frame for the visit of Blackburn.

Wojciech Szczesny is currently sidelined at least until May with the tendon damage suffered in the Nou Camp so, if Almunia’s woes continue, Lehman could certainly see action – he is available for just 4.5 in the Fantasy Premier League game.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Really do hope Tevez is ruled out against Sunderland, will make things so much easier. I'll be able to get Lampard and Terry in no problem and will mean I can get Zamora or Carroll in. 🙂

I like Luiz, but I he's not going to carry on scoring like he has done and with a very good defender in Alex returning, I think he is a rotation risk unfortunately.

At some point I think he'll make a mistake or two, he seems that type of defender... Alex is brilliant imo so I can't see him being on bench all the time in the league also.

Just going Terry cos he's safer ultimately. 🙂

Fair enough. Can't say i share your opinion of Luiz although i agree he may do the odd rash thing during the course of a season. However he seems like a proper footballer and i wouldn't be surprised if Carlo played him in midfield as well

people keep talking about Alex being used for UCL and Luiz in the league, but Chelsea only have two more games in the UCL anyway so I think Luiz is open to rotation, can see rationale.

    Thoughts on this plan?

    GW31: Djourou -> R Johnson
    GW32: Arteta & Berbatov -> Lampard & Welbeck (4 points)
    GW33: Baines & Kolarov -> Luiz & Ivanovic (4 points)

    Current Squad is:

    Foster, Stockdale
    Baines, Coleman, Kolarov, Djourou, Kelly
Nani, VDV, Nasri, A Young, Arteta
    RVP, Zigic, Berbatov

Well united's away record is pretty bad, but they beat west ham there 4-0 last season. I know they lost to them in this year's carling cup but it was their reserves. I'd say united will edge it 2-1.

For those without Adam, don't waste your time getting him in.

The ship has sailed and is about to flounder. Blackpool will not win again this season and will fail to score in at least half of their remaining games.

England 1996 would absolutely hammer the shit out of England 2011

    Seaman V Hart
    Neville V Glen Johnson
    Pearce V Ashley Cole
    Adams V Terry
    Southgate V Dawson
    Platt V Lampard
    Gascoigne V Wilshere
    McManaman V Downing
    Ince V Gerrard
    Shearer V Rooney
    Sheringham V Defoe

    Anderton V Lennon
    Les Ferdinand V Andy Carroll
    Robbie Fowler V Peter Crouch
    Sol Campbell V Jagielka
    Tim Flowers V Rob Green
    Ian Walker V Ben Foster

Of todays squad I could only see Rooney, possibly Wilshere, Ashley Cole and Terry making the squad. I don't think any of those would start though.

I think McCarthy was far more deserving of praise. Getting so far in 2002 with a much crapper squad than Charlton had [not to mention a man short thanks to Mr Keane] was a good achievement. They were unlucky not to go further too.

I'm not sure but I think Carroll probably has fluctuated the most, started at 5 - price shot up, then injured price plummets then shoots up again then plummets - its like the Irish stock market at the mo.

Did OK against him this week...

If Walcott can stay fit and first choice, he'd be a great buy, plays further forward than any other Arsenal midfielder (based on what I've seen, not chalkboards or anything) and knows where the goal is.

        Luiz - Dawson - Walker - Bramble - Smalling

I just don't think it will be as clear cut as Alex playing in the Champions League and Luiz in the league. I think Luiz will play more than Alex in the league but Ancelotti could well drop Luiz for Alex for one of the 'easier' fixtures imo which are the games you want Luiz overall.

He was good I thought, had more of an influence on the game than Van Persie imo. He did seem to be picking the ball up very deep though but was good all the same, I think he's taking over Fabregas' role at the minute so the sooner Fabregas is back the better for Nasri.

Depending on his fitness, is it worth me getting a budget option - say Carrol - to get in some heavy hitters for the double i.e. Fabs and or Lamps?? Especially considering i've already got a strong midfield.

    Any suggestions very welcome!

My wildcard earlier in the season was ridiculous though. I got in Chamakh who was out the next week, plus Adam Johnson who lost his place very soon after and Shawcross but it wasn't him who was getting points it was Huth.

Things just haven't settled that early on the season, it isn't clear who the bargains are and we don't know what players/teams are in form really.

He lacks desire this season to my adnittedly not very football savvy eyes. He had a definite edge to his play last season that I have failed to see this season. I don't know if it's on Youtube, but it's worth watching his demeanour from behind the goal when Messi slots away his peno...he gave a kind of a 'you're so good, I can't wait to play with you next season and suck your c*ck' kind of smile and shrug of his shoulders!

Sunderland have nothing to play for and are in the middle of an injury crisis. Their 'lovely' fixtures will be ones where the opponents will be targetting for rewards.

Hahaha FPL is sooooooooo conflicting! Though I must say I don't hate the Mackems that much, I'm not from or living in, Newcastle so wasn't genetically predisposed to despise them. 🙂

I actually found the hardest thing was having Cristiano Ronaldo, fecking hated him but he was utterly essential.

Well the alternative thought applies too, that it is better to have players who are playing for something.
Personally though I'm sick of the bugger so he goes for Lampard however Darren Bent comes in for Tevez.

I kinda wish I'd gone for Downing now but I think this is the time of the season to have players in teams going for the league and trying to stay up, which I know is pretty much everyone, but they have more to play for! Teams like Fulham Sunderland etc worry me because I could see some of their players coasting, Wolves WBA West Ham etc have loads to play for so I see them as good investments.

got a bit big-time, hence his current girlfriend being the bird that plays rosie webster

they reckon living in swansea and away from the bright lights has helped a bit and he often just spends the weekends back at his folks place in bath

He's proven to be a bit of a bargain this season. Still too tight to call between Norwich, Cardiff and Swansea but Sinclair could be the difference. Swansea's new guy from Chelsea, Borini, was supposed to have had a cracker of a debut too. The Brendan Rogers/Chelsea link is useful.

I'm absolutely delighted in my money league. It's 400,3,2,1 for the top four. I've managed to come from 33rd at Christmas to 3rd now, it's gonna be tough to catch em though

In terms of transfers out where should my priorities be between: Silva, Young, VDV, Huth, Rafael and Hernandez?

    Was thinking:
    Silva
    Hernandez,
    Huth,
    Rafael
    Young
    VDV.

You've only just got Hernandez in, you must have known he wasn't guaranteed 90 minutes every week. At least he started v Bolton!

Yeah I know, it was only a one week punt because form was in his favour.

Fair enough, too hard to predict when he'll get his minutes on the pitch - I'd get rid of him before Silva (because of Silva's decent fixture, like you say).

It's H2H, you move on to the 2nd round. The rank has little to do with it now. Draw is half ready but you can work out your next opponent.
