The fourth installment of the Fantasy Football Scout Cup got under way this weekend, with 512 Fantasy Managers battling it out in the first round proper. The full list of results can be viewed right here, what follows is a summary of the round…

Scores ranged from the brilliant 84 achieved by JauntyJonty (who beat Mr Cheese 84 – 56), to an embarrassing 25 courtesy of fr73. The benefactor of that pitiful score was omar little, who probably couldn’t believe his luck that his score of 35 somehow saw him progress. Needless to say that was the lowest scoring tie of the round, and their combined effort was only five points better than the average individual score (55).

At the other end of the spectrum, The Flying Dutchman‘s epic 79 – 76 victory over Supreme11 clocked the most points in a tie, with Supreme11 having the unfortunate title of Fantasy Manager with the highest score not good enough for the second round.

As close as that was, there were 31 ties decided by a narrower margin; 13 by a slender two points, 11 by a razor-thin single point, and seven draws. Heading into the second round by virtue of their superior overall rank are Raging Tortoises, Webbinho, Macs Buoy, yarkiebrown, Gribude, midtablesecurity and BSH.

The largest gulf between two sides in the round was a massive 43 points, coming in the 69 – 26 annihilation of markloe by Bagpuss68.

Having given him the big billing in the build-up to the round, oi keano only went and fluffed his lines as he prematurely crashed out in the very first round. His conqueror Shy ted progresses after his 71 – 60 win.

There’s seemingly no stopping our reigning champ Gooner dave however, as he made light work of Lovely Camel with a 64 – 56 scoreline in his favour.

There were mixed fortunes for our other two previous winners though. FFS Cup I winner donnellyc couldn’t turn his fortunes around enough to make the second round, as he was eliminated 77 – 54 at the hands of EpicFAIL. On the other hand, FFS Cup II winner Jonty got his campaign off to a bright start with a 58 – 51 win over jacklfc88.

Five became two for the Scout Contributors, with Big Dunc (69 – 42 Oscar 12) and Da beeeez (62 – 56 Titus Shambles) the only ones to advance. I got a 58 – 50 beating thanks to Sizo, Granville bit the dust after a 63 – 49 thumping by Bluevikings and Pure Oliva was massacred 81 – 60 by stevebland.

Congratulations to the 256 Fantasy Managers in the hat for the second round, the draw for which will be made later this week.

    Just read this on quotes of the week, thought it was hilarious

    "I don't like to hear any manager getting hostility. But I'd prefer it to be him than me so, no, to be honest I don't give a flying flute. I can empathise with him, I've been there, but 'sympathy' is not the word. Look it up in the dictionary, it's between sh*t and syphilis" - Mick McCarthy wins the award for quote of the year as he reflects on Gerard Houllier's plight

      no point making that transfer this week as chelsea are likely to concede against stoke this gameweek.. so play begovic instead.
      you should think about getting rid of tevez as he has tough fixtures coming up and has picked up an injury. this will leave you with plenty of funds to purchase chelsea players in the next 2 gameweeks to prepare you for that double gameweek they have.

    Advice on what to do next with my team:

    Foster, Al Habsi
    Huth, Kolarov, Coleman, Rafael, Djourou
    Nani, Van der Vaart, Nasri, Meireles, Downing
    Rooney, Van Persie, Zigic

    Am thinking:
    GW31: Rafael & Kolarov -> Luiz & Dawson (1 free, 1 4pt hit)
    GW32: Meireles -> Adam (free)
    GW33: no transfer (save a free)
    GW34: Nasri & Zigic -> O'Hara and Suarez (2 frees)

          Good point. I'd have to do a lot of shuffling to get the funds, perhaps something like this:

          GW31: Rafael & Kolarov -> Luiz & Dawson (1 free, 1 4pt hit)
          GW32: Nasri & VDV -> Lampard & Adam (! free, 1 4pt hit)
          GW33: no transfer (save free)
          GW34: Meireles, Downing & Zigic -> Suarez, O'Hara & 1 other mid-price midfielder (2 free, 1 4pt hit)

          Giving this team by GW34:

          Foster, Al Habsi,
          Luiz, Dawson, Huth, Coleman, Djourou
          Lampard, Nani, Adam, O'Hara, 1 other midfielder
          Rooney, RVP, Suarez

          Just imagine it's Scarlett Johansson's ham sandwich or something. That is a sexy ham sandwich.

    Need a £5.5m or less midfielder as short term cover for GW33 and maybe the one after. Any recommendations?

        Yeah was thinking wilshire but depending with djourou fit, I'll already have 3 arsenal. Gardner could be a possibility. Least he's on pens. Other one I was contemplating is song, but again depends on djourou. Cheers.
