The Player Manager Scout League – £400 Of Prizes To Be Won

After our recent review of Player Manager, we’ve linked up with the organisers of the game to bring you an exclusive tournament offering something new to light up your season run-in. Perfect for the Fantasy Premier League Manager who has perhaps given up on his mini-league chase, the Scout Player Manager League offers £400 in prize funds. Interested? Thought you might be.

The League will start this weekend (gameweek 31) and will run until the end of the season. The league placings will be calculated using the best score from all your solo games each gameweek (friends leagues don’t count) and the best 4 of these determines your position on the leaderboard. With 8 gameweeks to go, you have plenty of opportunity to rack up 4 decent scores and, with best 4 of 8, it matters less if you have a missed or bad-scoring week. You can of course also enter as many teams as you like over these gameweeks, with teams costing 10 credits (£1) for entry.

Player Manager are giving away £400 of credits to the top four in the league with £200 going to the winner and £100, £60 and £40 going to the next 3 places (payout positions will be combined in the event of any ties). These credits can be withdrawn or left in the kitty for next season of course.

Those who wish to enter the Scout League for this tournament can do so by emailing “In” to this address scout@playermanager.com. Make sure you send it from the address you’ll be using at Player Manager. Scores will only count after you send the email. Sadly, Player Manager and therefore this tournament, remains available only to players in the UK and ROI. The game and league is also limited to those aged 18 and over.

In Player Manager, you create a “shopping list” of players and set a maximum bid for each. The players are then automatically auctioned in each league you enter. There’s no need for you to do the bidding; like eBay, your maximum bid determines whether you get the player and at what price.

You might want to take in our recent Preview and Review of the game for more background information, while Player Manager’s own FAQ section tells you all you need to know about playing the game. The game’s creator, Jason Bryant (Scout username “djembe”) is also on-hand to answer any of your questions – so feel free to fire away!

  Start putting your player list together in the Player Station based on this weeks fixtures. Once you've listed your players for each position you just need to assign ranks (order of preference in auction) and add a max bid. My tactic has been to bid high for 3-4 top targets and try to pick up some differentials on the cheap. A lot of the talk here really translates well to the game.

  If you're logged in, just hit the "manage my player list" button. Add who you think will be the best-performing players to your list (clicking the "auto-fill" button will give you a decent starting list - or the Scout's Watchlist is another good place to start). Set a maximum price for each player (think of it like setting a maximum bid on eBay)- players will be automatically auctioned on Saturday morning and your squad of 11 has to come in at £100m or under.

      You're right on both counts. If Charlie Adam scores (if he plays), the points are all yours in that league. Some of our customers have very small player lists (we automatically allocate players to you if you don't fill your squad), some have very large ones. Its your call - but the auto-fill button will give you 33 players to add/delete from.

        I appreciate most of this stuff is fake, but I still think that Bentley one is real.
        Just because ad company's use the shaky camera in their virals, it doesn't mean that is there is a shaky camera they are instantly fake.
        
        I remember when that Bentley shot happened it was in the press a bit, etc., follow up story with Bentley donating it charity.

  Almost - you can bid £90m for him. You have to leave £1m for each of the other 10 spaces in your team. Doesn't mean you get him for £90m though. If the next highest bid is only £1m, you'll get him for £2m (just like eBay does with max bids).

        Nope. But the results of all our player auctions are available a few minutes after we close the gameweek (11.30am this Saturday). The results of the bidding rounds are all transparent - you can see who got which players and for what price - but it won't disclose their maximum bid.

        You're right. On the other hand, that joker may have a maximum bid of £89m and yours is £88m 😉 You'll be able to see everything about the bids (except for their maximum price) once the auction has run. Re: unique bids - you're effectively "seated" at a table (this all happens automatically, offline - you're not interacting in the auction) and prices go up in increments of £1m. So if you're the first person to hit that max, the guys and gals after you miss out and the player is yours and yours alone.

      Good question - realise you've spotted the answer but for others reading, valid formations are: 3-5-2; 3-4-3; 4-5-1; 4-4-2; 4-3-3; 5-3-2; 5-4-1. But you don't choose your formation. Our auctions effectively choose the formations for you (you're after the best players, not the best formation).

      Yes, technically, you'll basically be paying £1 a week at least four times (though you could be uber cocky/dumb and expect a one/two/three week win) in a 'normal' league playing for the win in that - with it's own rewards.
      
      But not for actual entry to our one. The PlayerManager folks will just tally up your totals against other folks four best week over the same time - and the top four will get an extra £xx for their efforts.

        It doesn't matter. We take the best 4 gameweeks out of how many you play. If you only play 4 times, it will be those. If you play 8 gameweeks, we'll automatically use the best 4 of them. So if you have a dud week, you can kick it out with a better performance next time.

        I think I'm getting there! So if I wanted to enter 5 teams and to have the 4 best scores of each team from the last 8 gameweeks it would cost £40?
        I cant see there would be much point in doing say 6 ut of 8 cos' sod's law would say that one of the ones I didnt choose to pay would get a high score 🙂

        Yes, that sounds right, you'd have forty entries for £40, hopefully make some cash back on those themselves anyway.
        
        Then your four best one entry a week scores go against my (and whoever elses) for the separate Scout bounty.
        
        (only caveat is it's four separate gameweek scores - if you had a shit hot gameweek 33 for example that would still only contribute 1/4 of your points in the scout comp).

      No - you'll be playing in 5, 10 or 15-person leagues as per normal against randomly-drawn opponents. But we then note your highest score of the gameweek and use that to calculate your Scout league score.

      You're paying your £1 to enter a 5/10/15 man league this week, everyone else is also doing that.
      
      So you might be in a ten man league with your 9 brothers and get Robin Van Persie this week while I end up in a different ten man league with all the contributors and get him too.
      
      Our scores from the leagues we enter this week will go forward if one of our top four come end of season for a separate scout competition.

Ok, pretty irrelevant FM question but very stuck...

I've been with Rushden and Diamonds six and a bit seasons, I'm currently in 19th in the prem 10 points from safety mid-way through the season. Liverpool who are second just offered me the job.

Should I take it? Or should I try survive with R+D and go all the way with them??

  Definitely stay. I had the same issue on one of my old games....
  
  I was at Forest Green, had them in the Championship after three promotions in four seasons, then I got offered a job at Crystal Palace (they'd been taken over by a tycoon and had bare cash, so I thought it would be fun). Only it wasn't, I lost all interest in the game pretty soon after moving.
  
  Should have accepted the Chelsea offer, which I bizarrely got when I was only in League One! 😉

    I just signed him this year, got him on a pre-contract agreement, he has been bloody awful for me! He hasn't scored in 11 games this season, and is average rating is 5.9! I actually don't think i've got any points with him in the squad!

  I hear you. We designed Player Manager so that it required as little effort on your part as possible. If you're familiar with FPL, you're half way there (our squad cost is also £100m and you already know which players are looking good for this week). Its not designed to replace your FPL fix, but ti sit alongside it. If you're good at FPL, you can profit from that skill at Player Manager.

Sounds decent actually, might give it a crack.

Only thing I still don't get is the formations, how does it work if u just bid for strikers etc or do u have to bid for so many defenders, so many midfielders etc. Do u still always end up with a valid formation?

I should really check on the site first I know!

  Hey Goose. No problem about asking questions here - I'm sure others are wondering the same thing. Don't worry about formation too much. Yes, you need a gkr, defs, mids and strikers but we'll take care of that for you. eg the most strikers you can have is 3. If you've bought 3 strikers already, we won't let you bid for another one.
