After our recent review of Player Manager, we’ve linked up with the organisers of the game to bring you an exclusive tournament offering something new to light up your season run-in. Perfect for the Fantasy Premier League Manager who has perhaps given up on his mini-league chase, the Scout Player Manager League offers £400 in prize funds. Interested? Thought you might be.

The League will start this weekend (gameweek 31) and will run until the end of the season. The league placings will be calculated using the best score from all your solo games each gameweek (friends leagues don’t count) and the best 4 of these determines your position on the leaderboard. With 8 gameweeks to go, you have plenty of opportunity to rack up 4 decent scores and, with best 4 of 8, it matters less if you have a missed or bad-scoring week. You can of course also enter as many teams as you like over these gameweeks, with teams costing 10 credits (£1) for entry.

Player Manager are giving away £400 of credits to the top four in the league with £200 going to the winner and £100, £60 and £40 going to the next 3 places (payout positions will be combined in the event of any ties). These credits can be withdrawn or left in the kitty for next season of course.

Those who wish to enter the Scout League for this tournament can do so by emailing “In” to this address scout@playermanager.com. Make sure you send it from the address you’ll be using at Player Manager. Scores will only count after you send the email. Sadly, Player Manager and therefore this tournament, remains available only to players in the UK and ROI. The game and league is also limited to those aged 18 and over.

In Player Manager, you create a “shopping list” of players and set a maximum bid for each. The players are then automatically auctioned in each league you enter. There’s no need for you to do the bidding; like eBay, your maximum bid determines whether you get the player and at what price.

You might want to take in our recent Preview and Review of the game for more background information, while Player Manager’s own FAQ section tells you all you need to know about playing the game. The game’s creator, Jason Bryant (Scout username “djembe”) is also on-hand to answer any of your questions – so feel free to fire away!

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Cricket
    Side picked for tomorrow Tharanga, Dilshan, Malinga and Murali for Sri Lanka, just B McCullum for NZ - I'll be fairly screwed if Sri Lanka loses.

      i have a wizard in my team. apparently mendis is 'a mystery bowler'. i'm not sure whether this means they don't know which way (if at all) the ball will spin or if mid way through his run-up he turns into allan donald, ian botham, shane warne etc. or if you don't know what he's going to bowl. a cricket ball? a tennis ball? a golf ball? a javelin? a pineapple?

        I'd love that, the final wicket and Mendis runs up and instead of bowling a cricket ball he shouts HADOUKEN! and a green turtle shell shoots from his midriff scattering batsman and wickets.

    All the footie manager chat on t'other page tempted to fire the game back up after a 6 month break.... Thought it would be a good idea to ask the game to pick a random side for me, only they picked Milan! Boooooooooooooring! I was hoping for some random German non league side!

    P.S. Has anyone ever played a rigid 4-4-2 on a football manager game? I haven't, and categorically refuse to in the future.

      The best formation on FM2011 is 4, 3, 2, 1 (two inside forwards). Storming it with the Toon, Kadlec is a must have. Incidentally its much easier to storm it now Carroll (a pretty crap player on FM) has left and you have stupid amounts of cash in his place.

        I fell for buying Carroll. 6M, which is a pretty good deal, but he can't seem to hit the back of the net anything like enough. I'm playing 4-4-2 at the moment with Wolves, it's 2012, and I have 16M burning a hole in my pocket, but nobody of any real quality wants to join me.

          Kadlec - I got him for 1.2m and he is seriously good. First season he got 21 goals in 32 games, second season he has 21 in 23 so far.
          Jelle Vossen is really good on mine too, Carroll is shite unfortunately. Oh and if you can get Zapata - he's a brilliant CB

            I love the pre-season and all the transfer dealings more than the fixtures. I tend to get my brother to run the team. He messes around with it for hours assigning players roles, stuff I'd never do.

              I take far too much time creating tactics, then I'll watch the whole game as well. Only when I lose, I take it as a personal insult and invariably quit.

              Back when I was playing it, I spend hours setting up a badass 5-2-3 formation with Forest Green, only for us to get destroyed in the first game of the season by Luton, so I quit and that was that!

              Get Alan Dzagoev (CSKA) and Christian Eriksen (Ajax) on loan too with a view to buy (I got 9m for Dzagoev, and 12m Eriksen clauses in the loan) both really good advanced playmakers

      FM11 strategy with any average-good+ team.

      Season 1 - Buy Khouma Babacar for ~£10 million. Put him in reserves.

      Season 2 onwards - Watch him bang 35+ goals and average ~8.00 every season.

      Win

                Babacar is Fiorentina and Lukaku - err can't remember actually. Arsenal ALWAYS get him really quick so you'd have to make it your first move.

                    Ya im not. Online. Phd expert was the best bit though.

                    You didnt happen to see your boy Kilkenny hero Brian Cody talking about Religion last night.

                    ODD.ODD.ODD.ODD.ODD.ODD. 😀

                    He had as much insight as a dried melon on the subject.
                    Pity the old codger Gay Byrne didnt actual ask him the one question that mattered. Why do you believe in this Religion over this one and this one or this one.

                    I know Gay Byrne is an Irish broadcasting colossus but I can't get past his name (hehe) and his really patronising voice. So I don't watch that show. In fact I barely watch Rte at all anymore, it's all about Sky Atlantic.

        A comical moment. Debate on many things
        Host goes to PHD expert in audience who covered topic. She says her study showed this thing wasnt true (time spent in parliment on local issues didnt take up more time than anything else) and talks at length very well and confidently on the issue saying perceptions were wrong.

        Host asks simple run of the mill Q - but what about the report showing in fact its actually 53% - 40% against what she just said widely known to people in public who couldnt give a toss about the issue. Thus destroying everything she said and indeed or whole PHD topic (which begs the question how she got it in the first place)

        She stutters as if she never heard of the one thing in the public domain about her topic , then blushes and the camera moves on.

        Priceless. The equivalent of Brian Cox saying he doesnt know what to the moon is in his field,

        I found it funny away 😀

    CRICKET

    thought of a funny (imo and if done well) comedy sketch during the england game where tharanga had a runner. what if both batsmen had runners, then the runner got injured too so he had a runner, then add another couple. then the bowler bowls the batsmen hits what would normally be an easy single but a game of chinese whispers ensues between actual batsmen all the way through the group of injured runners outwards until it finally gets to the uninjured runner. by the time it gets there though not only is the single no way near on so he gets run out both easily and comically but the call has maybe turned from yes to a random word like chair chinese whispers style.
    another one is the line of injured runners goes out so far that the uninjured runner at the end is actually in the crowd. again the ball is hit and the message to run is relayed out and the guy in the stand has to wade through the spectators and he just about gets there but it goes to a third umpire decision, the replay then goes all the way across the line of the crease all the way into the stand where a slow-mo ensues of the runner trying to battle his way through a crowd of people (fully kitted and with his bat) to get home. then the final part the replay shows he just about gets home and either (a) he was in the opposition stand so they all start pushing him around in frustration or (b) he was in with his own fans and they all start dancing with him, high fives etc.

            True. I used to play online versus my mate (until he had a kid) and it took feckin ages, he would be shortlisting for ages! In the end we put a time limit on each day. Made it harder to do well in but you could spend the time when they have a game and you dont to do all the fiddly stuff.

                  If we made some decent rules, like your one about only the one friendly, and had a time limit on it, I reckon it would be pretty fun!

                  We'd have to have a set time every week though, and if just one person couldn't make it then everything would fall apart....

                    See that's it. Getting people on at the same time, which is sort of what made the first FIFA11 league difficult.
                    So you would have to have a small number of people to keep it manageable, no more than 5 or so, then you have the problems of the Chelsea, Man Utd, Man City, Arsenal managers being able to stomp on the managers of smaller teams, by block bidding on the affordable players.
                    It's difficult but not impossible.

          Although I'll get really pissed off if I do rubbish with them (which I probably will). All my games are generally the same, start well with most teams I pick and then fade off in the second half of the season. I also mega fail in the big games, like the later stages of the Champions League games and against title rivals etc.

      Like the tripling. Personally I'd lose Huth for a Sunderland defender thus freeing cash to upgrade Murphy. Prefer Sunderland to Stoke to the end of the season, as unpalatable as that may be.

      i'm hoping torres' hamstring twangs so he no longer clogs up their attack by scandalously getting a game, in which case drogba becomes a valid option once again. otherwise yep the luiz and terry combo looks appealing. the more i watch ramires the more i think he may be worth a squirt for the double. he's officially scored more open play goals than lampard this year.

          behave torres doesn't deserve a place in the team ahead of borini right now, let alone drogba, anelka and kalou. price-tag pressure and reputation is getting him a game

      Would be good to do a proper draft league next year for FPL. Where you only get one of each player (i.e so only one person can have Nani as opposed to the entire game!) and you have to trade with other managers if you want a particular transfer. Would be pretty sweet i reckon and you can use FPL.com to run it as well. Probably have to limit the teams though

            I looked at Sunderland, but the Gordon/Mignolet situation means I'll just go with Bramble.

            Looking at having a defense where Cech, Luiz and Smalling play most weeks, while Bramble or Walker should be alright as a 4th defender whenever needed. This will probably change mind.

          that's why I'm considering Dempsey. Assuming adam would be fit is more appropriate phrasing i guess.

            I looked at both. As long as he is fit, has to be Adam imo. Dempsey would be benched for 2 of the next 3 weeks, plus with Zamora coming back he may be less advanced than before. Adam is fixture proof, hogs ALL set-pieces and has great fixtures GW33-35.

    So here's the daily update on my 3 week plan.

    Assuming Adam is fit, how's this looking?

    GW31: Arteta -> Adam
    GW32: Nasri & Baines -> Lampard & Luiz (4 points)
    GW33: Kolarov & Berba -> Terry & Gyan (4 points)

        My big decision is who to ditch out of Baines and Berba to accommodate Lampard in GW32. Head says Berba but fixtures say Baines...

            At home to Fulham though? That could be a fest. Baines is away to Wolves. I also have Coleman as Everton defensive coverage.

              Fulham is one of the toughest home games imo, they travel very well. On top of that it's a big gamble whether or not berbs will even start these days and he's soooooooo inconsistent. I've got baines & coleman and will stick with them both until gw34.

                Not sure about Fulham being good away - they've only won once this season away! It's tricky though. Another problem I have is that Kelly and Djourou are both pretty much dead so I would have to consistently field 2 Everton defenders unless I get rid of one soon. Have posted an alternative below which i'm swaying towards...

          Hi jinswick, I was going to ask you how your plans were going this morning.

          I would try and keep Baines at all costs if I were you. Do you really need Terry as well as Luiz?

          If you want Lamps you have to be prepared to sacrifice other areas of your team. Luiz and Baines offer you attacking returns whereas Terry really only offers you cleanie points.

          A cheaper defender would be just as good for you in the long run.

            Morning nomar, I guess I don't need Terry (was just looking to max on Chelsea players for their nice double). Perhaps this is better?

            GW31: Arteta -> Adam
            GW32: Coleman, Nasri & Berba -> Luiz, Lampard & Gyan ( 8 points)

                  Understand you wanting Chelsea coverage, I have v similar team to you, but Arsenal also have good fixtures and you will have no cover there if you let Nasri go. I would ditch Baines the Everton side is in a mess must impact on his attacking returns IMO

                    Jinswick has Van Persie so Nasri is not his only Arsenal cover.

                    Arsenal's dgw is the hardest of the 3 too. Fabs and Walcott will be back by then. Considering Nasri's been getting 1 pt hauls without those two around to take points off him what do you suppose he's going to do once they're back?

                    Someone like Adam for Nasri is just better long term not just for one dgw.

                    I personally think Jarvis, O'Hara and Milijas are all much better options and have a dgw right after Arsenal's. Saves him a ton of cash too.

                    Hmmm, I'd still have Nasri & RVP, then RVP for blp and the double (the latter not being a great double). Also, Arsenal's fixtures don't seem that great from 34-36. Will probably get Walcott/Fabs back in at some point also.

                  Like most on here I'm not overly keen on the 8 pt hit, especially in a single gameweek. DGW's at least make an 8 pt hit seem more palatable.

                  I'd rather space it out in 2 4 pt hits, but that's just me.

                  I always try and figure out which players I really want and what's the fewest moves I can do it in.

                  If it was my team I'd def get rid of Coleman and Arteta and, after this week, I'd happily shift Berbs for Gyan anyway.

                  Maybe then look at Luiz on the Friday night before the dgw33.

                  Your way may be the only way to get what you want on the budget available though.

                    Surely an 8 point hit in one week is the same as two 4 point hits (when looking purely at total scores for the season) over 2 weeks? Also, taking the hits in GW32 means I have 2 Chelsea players at home to Wigan which could be a bonanza. Lampard would have to wait till GW33 otherwise. Gyan Vs Berba in GW32 is marginal so not losing much, if anything, there.

                    I agree that one of Coleman/Baines has to go, but given they're at home this week and the defender i want in (Luiz) doesn't have a great fixture this week, I think that can wait till GW32.

    Two of the four semi-finalists - Manchester United, Manchester City, Bolton and Stoke - will have their Premier League fixtures postponed if they reach the final.

    We'll have double GW's till the end of the season nearly every second GW.

      Man City V Stoke City most likely to be postponed.

      Blackburn V Man Utd
      Blackpool V Bolton

      Also in trouble. I Wonder will they play their fixtures earlier or we will have GW 38 as double? Hmmm.. What the lads are thinking? When is possible to rearrange the matches?

          Thanks mate I read that. But its only moving the time not the date. So they will have blanks and I wonder when they could be rearranged. If Utd are in final it depends from the progress in the CL. But they will loose it from Che so it will not affect the fixture list.

            Ouch !! 😉

            Surely they will have to bring the fixture/fixtures forward as I can't see any of the finalists wanting to play the following Tue/Wed, and all premiership games always finaish at the same time on the same day - you can't just carry a few over !!

            Seem to remember FFS saying that GW36 was the only other spare space for fixtures, but if Man City make the final they already have a double then. But they will loose it from UTD so it will not affect the fixture list !!!
