As one cup competition starts to warm up, the other is already at boiling point. Eight were reduced to four this weekend as the Members’ Paddy Power Cup reaches the Semi-Final stage. Before we move on to the draw for that, here is how the Quarters played out…

1 – Roostars 61 – 57 ryangal1982

A late Yaya Toure and Carlos Tevez-inspired fightback from the 1,921st ranked ryangal1982 wasn’t enough to avoid the upset defeat to, a Wayne Rooney-assisted, 18,251st ranked Fantasy Manager in the world, Roostars. It’s extremely unlucky for ryangal1982 to be making an exit this week, as had he faced any one of the other six Quarter-Finalists he would have progressed.

2 – Gooner dave 44 – 57 Kippax Kloggers

The shock result of the round saw FFS Cup III Champion Gooner dave given a crushing defeat by Kippax Kloggers. Rooney wasn’t the difference in this tie as both Fantasy Managers went in with the Manchester United forward, nor was it the captaincy choices that swung it (both skippered Robin van Persie). The key was in defence, where Kippax Kloggers trio notched 15 more points than did Gooner dave’s. He will be hoping that the wheels aren’t coming off what has so far been a fantastic season, in a similar fashion to his beloved Arsenal.

3 – The Hunt 39 – 26 canetoad

Our lowest-scoring tie saw The Hunt reach the Semi-Finals with ease. If ryangal1982 was the unluckiest Fantasy Manager of the round, then The Hunt was certainly the most fortunate. Having scored the second-lowest points tally in the round, the phrase “the luck of the draw” has never been more appropriate. Both will be ruing their miserable week (canetoad more so, obviously) and their unfortunate bench selection (The Hunt benched Peter Odemwingie, canetoad benched Kevin Nolan).

4 – Zophar 55 – 52 kapitidave

Deciding the final tie was, ultimately, kapitdave‘s transfer dealings. A four-point hit may look bad when you lose by three points, but when you consider Wayne Rooney was sold for Robin van Persie as part of that hit, then it looks decidedly horrific. So it’s another win and another green arrow for the now 13th in the world Zophar.

It’s participants decided, here is how the Semi-Finals shape up…

1 – ZopharVs. Kippax Kloggers

2 – Roostars Vs. The Hunt

Mimicking the FA Cup Semi-Finals somewhat, the highest ranked Fantasy Managers have been drawn together, and the underdogs have an excellent opportunity of making a Cup Final appearance.

Once again, the prizes for the competition, provided by Paddy Power, are a free £150 bet for the winner, £75 for the runner-up and £50 for third place.

If you’re not with Paddy Power yet, then you can sign up via this site and get a free £20 when you register and bet £10. (All offers are only available to those aged 18 and over and are subject to Paddy Power’s terms and conditions.)

Hi guys, numbers have just been updated at http://www.ratemyteam.co.uk to take into acount latest team news.

We're also pleased to announce that we have two new developments.

1.) Added colour coded scores to the main table to help you distinguish between who you should be expecting to get higher or lower scores.
e.g. this is my team: http://ratemyteam.co.uk/team.php?userid=246127

2.) We have also introduced the 'ratethisteam' bookmarklet; which is all explained on the front page.

Takes into account lots of factors. Opposition, goal scoring record, position, team, probability of playing, probability of being a sub. Also, it fits simple models for yellow cards, red cards, own goals, bonus, saves e.t.c, so almost element of the game is included.

Take the accuracy with a pinch of salt and is important to bear in mind that the numbers are expected points. So, for example someone who is rated 50/50 for a match and is expected 2.5 points might still be worth putting in your starting xi because if he doesn't play, he will be autosubbed out.

        Hope that helps!

It's in the pipe line. The difficult thing would be what sort of total people want. Autosubs makes it a lot more complicated than just adding up the top 11 players plus double the score for captain. We could use that definition though as a rough estimate of the expected total, bearing in mind it will be boosted by the prospect of auto-subs.

            What do you think?

Got a few dilemmas this week. Firstly who to sell for Flampard, it's between A. Young, VDV and Nani. Was set on VDV but now that nani may be a rotation risk i'm leaning towards him.
Secondly, kelly -> Jones for a 4 point hit? I'm currently working on 3 defs (Luiz, Coleman, Kolarov) so with city's blank I really have to sort summat out!

Any advice Would be greatly appriciated. Cheers!

I just debated that with myself when I went to the store. Ronaldinho was absolutely incredible, and performed on every stage while Messi still has been average with his national side for quite some time now.

            I do think it's close.

I think Xavi and Figo are good candidates for a list of that kind, as is Henry, Rivaldo and possibly Buffon.

I'd put Messi above Ronaldinho and Cannavaro instead of Riquelme, in fact I'd say
      Zidane
      Luis Ronaldo
      Messi
      Maldini
      Cannavaro

      David Batty is sixth 🙂
By the way by modern era is suppose it to mean 1995 onwards otherwise I'd have Van Basten, Gullit, Stoichkov, Hagi and Baresi in the mix too - dunno where though

posted this earlier, would be interested in some different opinions

drastic subs: would you take a 12pt hit this week and do
OUT: Kolorov, VdV, Young, Saha, Rooney
IN: Luiz, Lampard, Walcott, Drogba, Hoilett

or would you just take a 4pt hit and do:
    OUT: Kolorov, Saha, Rooney
    IN: Luiz, Drogba, Hoilett
and do the other 2 subs the week after (when vdv & young don't have quite as nice fixtures)

I know option 2 is less risky, but if i did option 1, i would be able to captain lampard.

The Rooney ban could be a good thing for my team -

    Robinson (Foster)
    Luiz, Clark, Kolorov (Coleman, Kelly)
    VDV, Nasri, Dempsey, Nani, Young
    RVP, Rooney, Zigic

I'm not convinced Lamps is a must buy but he is a nailed on starter. 8pts ahead in my mini league so trying to walk the tightrope of good changes vs pts hit.

Thinking of the following options -
    A. OUT: VDV, Rooney
    IN: Gyan, Lamps 4pts
    B: OUT: Rooney, Zigic

I'm not an expert but I'd hold onto Rooney...the positive aspect of his ban is that he'll probably play 90 minutes for the rest of the season...

If you're deadset on transferring out Rooney even though he's only out for only one league game, I would think about going Rooney straight to Drogba to get Chelsea exposure, avoid taking a hit while transferring out a potentially high scorer like VdV/Dempsey.

B is good too but it leaves you with no Chelsea attackers

Cheers mate. Gosh! really haven't thought *too* much about it yet. Personally, I'm thinking of taking a reasonably big hit this week to make sure I have Lampard over the next 3 weeks. I'm also thinking Rooney out and Gyan in would be good and free up the cash to do that. Saha, I'm thinking of going cheap, either Welbeck or Beckford, but leaning towards Welbeck. I think the Bentley news today, has made me think I need to do those 3 transfers this week. Possibly Nolan out for Lampard, but maybe Bentley. We'll see if there's any more development in the next 36 hours. How about you?

        Bentley to Lampard
        Rooney to Gyan
        Saha to SEB (?)

Sounds good to me. I think SEB could be a good shout especially since Wolves have a double, as long as he can sit on your bench happily next week. Also, he's quite good cos, I think if he scores a goal or 2 in the next couple he could cement his chances of playing and become even better value.

1990 > Man Utd top 5:- (player quality, not length of service)

    1. Cantona
    2. Robson

As much as I love him, it does pain me to put Ronaldo as #1 but, if you're taking length of service out of the equation, he's the best.

Cantona was technically amazing. Schmeichel would throw/kick it out in his general direction, he would look up at a ball 40 feet in the air, trap it in one and head towards goal. These things you only appreciate when watching live football.
