There’s just one Premier League fixture this fine Tuesday night, as Manchester United look to strengthen their grip on the title with a visit up to St. James Park and Newcastle United. The Dugout Discussion chatroom has been opened, and offers you a place for your musings as the action unfolds.

As is unfortunately the norm nowadays, there have been one or two differing team sheets for tonight’s game being passed about on Twitter, but this is how they line-up…

Newcastle XI: Krul, Simpson, Williamson, Coloccini, Jose Enrique, Barton, Guthrie, Tiote, Gutierrez, Lovenkrands, Ameobi

Man United XI: Van der Sar, O’Shea, Smalling, Vidic, Evra, Nani, Carrick, Anderson, Giggs, Hernandez, Rooney

The home side are as predicted meaning that Tim Krul replaces the injured Steve Harper. Elsewhere, Cheik Tiote comes straight back into the Toon midfield, with banned Kevin Nolan missing out.

As for the visitors, Chris Smalling replacing Rio Ferdinand doesn’t come as a shock given the latter’s recent injury record. Neither is it a surprising that Luis Nani starts at the expense of Antonio Valencia. One piece of team news that does raise an eyebrow is the total omission of Dimitar Berbatov to the United squad, with no late injury news to report of as yet (EDIT: Sir Alex Ferguson says Berbatov “wasn’t feeling great” earlier today and is the reason why he misses out).

Oh, and Wayne Rooney (swear-jar in hand) takes his place alongside Javier Hernandez up front for the Reds.

I thought Hernandez cut a frustrated figure tonight, AP. His performance wasn't anything to write home about. Rooney looks on fire but it just didn't happen for him.

I'd have probably gone Tiote 3, Smalling 2, Barton 1.

People seem so damn certain Mourinho will take over from Ferguon, but I'm not so sure. Surely you don't want to be the guy who takes over from the most successful club manager ever?

If he wants to be Man U manager, he'll be the guy to follow the guy who flops after taking over from Ferguson. Mourinho is a narcissist, if it isn't going to be the perfect move for him, he won't take the job.

Erm, the german bit is from the sign above Auschwitz.

      Well Done Catmac.

      Explanation:

"At the end, the article was indefinately missing from the girl’s name"

      Indefinite article = 'a'
      Girl's name = Francesca
At the end = missing from the end of the name

      FRANCESC

"Arbeiten macht Frei in the German Factory, maybe after a baked bean supper."

      Bit of a blind alley.

Arbeiten macht frei = work makes you free in German, however, you needed the German word for Factory which is 'Fabrik'

Maybe after a baked bean supper = beans make you fart so give you gas!

      Fabrik+Gas = Fabregas.

"A nice, exotic lolly for dessert. Maybe without the ‘oh’ factor."

Ever had a Solero? Dessert is the last course and Fabregas has a last name. Without the 'oh' this makes 'Soler'

Going to have a couple of quid on Spurs to beat Arsenal at 15-8. And a few pennies on Arsenal/Tottenham HT/F/T at 26-1....

Spurs to win 2-1 I reckon. Please VDV - do something tomorrow...

Arsenal are unbeaten since December in the league, and when they draw, it's when teams sit on them like Blackburn and Liverpool did.

Spurs won't do that, they'll attack. I think Arsenal could win this one and surprise everyone.

Vidic. Rio has to be managed carefully now, what with the champions league and important games against arsenal and chelsea coming up. Sir Alex obviously thinks smalling is more than capable of slotting in alongside rio, as proved tonight and on countless other occasions.

Rio is known to be injury prone, so we are just taking extra care, and only playing him if we really need to.

just visited the republic of mancunia for the first time ever, it's priceless. the guy has actually been emailing the FA about the whole rooney swearing thing and seemingly about every time he's heard a swear word during a football match since. the sad thing is people will gobble up this drivel like it's gospel. it's not having opinions or thinking for yourself it's just, "right let's go all out to protect man utd regardless of whether it's bollocks or right." the sad thing is the disciples of this brain-washing internet stain probably lap it up, the fact i've heard of it shows it must be quite a big site.

i eagerly wait for the article about tonight's referee robbery, desperately scouring youtube for examples of similar dives that did result in penalties. they may even go for the hugely witty route of mocking up a title pic of lee probert in a newcastle shirt.

anyway rant over, i've had a look at the site now, fair enough having biased views (it's not, but it's clearly so cemented into football fandom it's not worth stressing over). but emailing the fa and then writing articles about is pretty OTT especially as it all boils down to them/him/ whoever it is failing to understand the most clear of distinctions
rant over. im not wasting space, it's just as wide as everyone else's posts 😉

Manchester United fans support that club because they want to support a team who wins - so in that respect, you shouldn't be surprised that they bitch and moan every time they don't. In the back of their mind, they're probably thinking: "maybe I should support Chelsea/Arsenal/Man City/Barcelona."

That may be slightly harsh on long-term supporters of the club, or people who actually grew up in the local area. However, I'd venture that maybe at least 19/20 Man U fans on any given football-related website (you can take this one as an example if you so please) wouldn't fit into either of those two categories.

i might start a watford site and after every game have an automated system that spouts out the following three lines:
      it was/wasn't a penalty
      it was/wasn't a red card
      it was/wasn't offside
the system then chooses which option supports watford and posts the three lines. those 3 lines will be the article as that's essentially all these things boil down to and how mind-nummingly predictable they are. "oh look you argued in favour of your team for the 1030948382774764737284849939293472726453252th time in a row, no way."
this isn't a man utd thing before AP has a tantrum (possibly too late) it's simply a bias thing in general. why bother discussing things if you know which way someone will argue? it's not i've assessed the evidence and from that i've decided .... it's this is the conclusion i want now lets try and find some evidence to support that conclusion
