Bolton come into the double gameweek with their tail firmly between their legs following last Sunday’s 5-0 mauling by Stoke in the FA Cup Semi Final. With the club sitting on 43 points in the Premier League, they are safe from the perils of relegation yet find European qualification just out of reach, and it’s tricky to second-guess just how they will react to such a heavy defeat.

When weighing up the acquisition of their players, there are two schools of thought ahead of the weekend kick-off; the first says morale will be low and, having performed so poorly under the nation’s gaze, the Trotters will find it difficult to pick themselves up. The second, however, can be found in the words of Owen Coyle, speaking directly after the weekend game at Wembley:

”What we don’t want is to have this impact our season because we’ve been terrific up to this point and they’ve earned their right to be here. We’ve played well below what we’re capable of, but we must pick ourselves up for the final six games of the season. We’re in a good position in the league and we want to finish strongly.”

Either way, Bolton have their work cut out as they square up to a pair of tricky fixture that sees them host Arsenal before travelling to Fulham.

The Prospects

Coyle’s side take on Arsenal at the Reebok and with The Gunners pretty much out of the title race barring a minor miracle, both sides will be looking for a pick-me-up. Arsenal have the best away record in the division this term but Bolton have been impressive at home of late, winning their last four in a row, chalking up three clean sheets in the process.

The second game of the double is no easy task, either. Fulham’s home form has been exceptional since the turn of the year; five wins and a draw in six games -with five clean sheets thrown in for good measure- makes Craven Cottage a fortress for Mark Hughes’ side. Bolton’s away form has been truly woeful for a considerable time, now; they have lost eight of their last nine on the road, failing to score on five occasions and never scoring more than once.

The Likely Lads

Realistically, defensive returns look unlikely this weekend; Arsenal should score at least once and with Bolton having to record a single clean sheet on the road this season, Craven Cottage hardly inspires confidence in breaking that duck. Gary Cahill has picked up Bonus Points in each of his last four home games and with his eye for goal, looks the one to plump for at the back.

Martin Petrov has established himself in the Trotters starting XI following a stop-start season and has returned three assists in his last four games – he looks a stronger midfield proposition than the previously fancied Chung-Yong Lee. With six goals in eight games during his loan spell, Daniel Sturridge has been the star of the show for Bolton and was sorely missed in the Stoke defeat, due to being cup-tied. At 5.3, he’s a great cut-price option and, given their next three fixtures are arguably against the most out-of-form sides in the top-flight right now (bla, SUN, blp), investment now may set Fantasy Managers up for the next few gameweeks beyond this double.

Cheeky Punts

A glance at the top-scoring forwards in FPL will show that both Johan Elmander and Kevin Davies sit in the top ten. With one goal in thirteen and eighteen games respectively, however, it’s understating the matter to say that they are both out of sorts right now, with much of these points racked up in the first few months of the season. This recent form suggests selecting either of the pair would be no more than a punt.

Due to the outstanding displays of Daniel Sturridge, Owen Coyle seems to favour Elmander in a midfield role right now, and although this has limited his returns, the Swede has picked up two assists and four Bonus Points in his last five games.

Davies’ recent returns are one assist and 2 Bonus Points in his last two games but with his spot-kick duties still intact and tendency to impress the Bonus judges (he is sixth-top forward for Bonus) he may well find himself amongst the points.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Wahey new post so I get to legally repost my post from earlier. I don't say post often enough. Post, post posty post.

Anyway this is a long one so brace yourself (that's what I said to yo' mum)

Here's my thoughts on some of the DGW players
    BOLTON
Arguably the most difficult of the doubles, they face Arsenal at home followed by Fulham away. I certainly wouldn't be overly confident in their chances of keeping a clean sheet in either of those fixtures. However some of their attacking players have been doing well; apart from the two I've considered here also think about Lee and possibly Elmander. They unfortunately recieved a proper kicking from Stoke in the cup, so it remains to be seen how they will bounce back from that.

Petrov - A minibandwagon at the start of the season (I was on board) he is playing better lately. In his last match against West Ham he had four attempts on goal with 2 off target and 2 blocked. This season he has 3 goals and 5 assists to his name.

Sturridge - In his last game he amassed an impressive 10 shots on goal, 4 were off target, 1 was blocked, 3 were on target and he scored twice. Overall he averages 1.85 shots per game and has six goals in 21 appearances. He has no assists.

Here is a passing heatmap which will give some idea of their relative positions
    http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/chalkboards/m3OHPM7L2K6s0ZLyh03K

    FULHAM
A reasonable double of wol BOL means a clean sheet in at least one of those games is a pretty decent bet. They are playing pretty well lately and look solid enough at the back. Apart from the two I consider here have a think about Hangeland, Schwarzer, Danny Murphy and Damien Duff.
Dempsey Front runner in the captains poll, Dempsey has dropped deeper from his OOP striker role. However he still managed an impressive four shots against Man Utd, 3 were blocked, and 1 was off target. He also achieved an impressive 93% pass accuracy (from 41 passes), which isn’t bad at all for an attacking mid. He has scored 10 goals in 32 appearances and provided 3 assists.
Zamora A decent option up front. He was kept quiet against Man Utd though and only managed 2 shots both off target. This season he has been blighted by injury but managed an impressive 4 goals in 8 appearances with 2 assists.
Here is a comparative heatmap of them both against Man Utd
    http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/chalkboards/1N0z6c37j888oy0m66a0

    STOKE
May occasionally be dirty big hoofers but it can be effective. They should be on a high after ‘hanging out the back’ of Bolton in the cup. A reasonable DGW of avl, WOL means they should be a relatively decent proposition. I wouldn’t expect much from the Villa game but the Wolves one could be interesting with a decent chance of a clean sheet. They also have the kindest fixture the following gameweek – blp so investment in their attacking players could be a two GW affair. Also consider Begovic, Huth and if you like a (rhyming slang?) punt – Kenwyne Jones.
Etherington A strong option, he has the bonus of being on penalties and some free kicks. He has scored 5 goals and 6 assists in 29 appearances. In his last game against Spurs, Etherington had 3 shots – 1 off target, 1 blocked and 1 in the back of the onion bag.
Walters A bandwagon in the making. He is generally OOP, in rich vein of form; but unfortunately the chalkboards and StattoGods don’t back him up. In 30 appearances he has only managed 5 goals and 2 assists. In his last league game against Spurs he only managed 1 shot which was off target. However he did score twice in the Cup against Bolton, and the ineligibility of John Carew for the Villa game means he is pretty safe to start. A wild punt for all you maverick loose-cannon types.
Here’s a chalkboard of them both against Spurs
    http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/chalkboards/0QTm10zw2aNu052506x

I can’t be arsed to do Wolves too but they have a pretty nice double and then the kindest fixtures until the end of the season. Strongly consider O’Hara, Jarvis, maybe a cheap and nasty defender (not Elokobi) and if you’re fancying a wild punt go for SEB up front.

Bugger off ya cheeky monkey. I'm just doing my weekly 'helpful' post, then I can feel safe in the knowledge I've done my bit and I can get back to being an arsehole WUM for the rest of the week.
Thus if anyone says 'Attila is a WUM bugger' someone can say 'ah yes but he is helpful periodically'. Thus a man enters the Kingdom of Heaven.

Ah so you only bid on so many, and the rest of the players that are without bids are randomly distributed?
How many bids can you do or is it just money based? So if they give you a budget of £100m you bid £100m on Drogba and then you can't bid on anyone else in case Drogba actually costs you £100m? Is that right?

You can bid on as many players as you like, I think.

You also can't spend 100 million on anyone, the maximum is 90 mill, so you then have 1 mill each for the other 10 - who will presumably be 10 rutters that no one else has bid for.

But if you bid 90 million for Nile Ranger, and he second highest bid is 2 million, then you'd get him for 3 million.

Thinking about it now, I should probably bid for more players. Not because I actually want them particularly, but so that others in my league can't pick these players up on the cheap.

it's an situation but i still make murphy front runner. murphy scored 2 penalties against tottenham in the fa cup. then fulham won a penalty v chelsea and dempsey took and missed it. then they had a penalty against blackburn and zamora who had come on for murphy took it and scored. imo the order is murphy - zamora - dempsey. the only bizarre thing is why dempsey took the pen v chelsea. maybe becasue he won it he refused to let anyone take the ball off him

yeah i think your right, but it's a hard one to decipher as in the fa cup, zamora didn't play, and i remember him taking penalties before that. However there's no doubting that him and murphy are the top two choices for pen duties.

I have had a horror month and am now second and third guessing my decisions. Trying to decide how many DGW players I am going to get. (2 free trades and Huth and Baird already in my team). Maybe I'll just do the two. Any thoughts?

(1st two if Adam is out injured)
A: Nasri and Adam out - Jarvis (or maybe O'Hara) and Etherington in
    or
B: Nasri and Adam out - Etherington and Dempsey in
    or
C: Nasri, R.Johnson out - Etherington, Hangeland in
    or
D: Nasri, R.Johnson out - Dempsey, Hangeland in

I don't think I'd do any of these tbh. I don't expect too much from the DGW players. I have Nasri and Adam and am keeping for now. I had Rafael and Bentley who needed to go so I was able to get rid for Etherington and Hangeland but probably wouldn't have done more than one if I didn't have dead wood in my team.

With two trades I have to do one anyway or lose it. Obviously I could do a tweak to my keepers, but probably not worth it. Any suggestions then? With Baird already I don't think it is worth getting another Fulham defender.

Bale is officially crap. He was awarded the Most Overrated Player of the Season Award at the unfortunately named Attila's Bumfest Awards (ABA) last night. He nearly got the Lifetime of Overration Award too which would have been some achievement at his young age - but Beckham just pipped him to the post.

I think I've decided that this week's doubles aren't worth taking a hit for. I've already used my free on Nasri -> Etherington and already have Dempsey. I like Sturridge and Zamora, but don't see them being worthy of taking a hit, and taking out one of Suarez, RVP or Drogba.

    Team would be:

    Reina
    Bardsley Coleman Luiz
    DEMPSEY Adam ETHERINGTON Lampard
    Suarez RVP Drogba

    Foster Walcott R Johnson Simpson

Do I need more doubles? Not sure sbout the subs, maybe Walcott should be ahead of Adam (injury risk). Who should I captain?

Okay. I've done it. This is my planed transfers for the rest of the season. 1 a week and hopefully I can catch up the points on my bitter rival. The way I see it is that he is certain to take at least 2 lots of point hits between now and then so I'll have a less than 5 point lead to claw back.

My rival has now got a 12 point lead on me after the jammy git got malouda in as he couldn't afford Lampard. This week he currently has 4 DGW players, Sturridge, Huth, Baird and Schwazer. I only have Begovic!

          I have 2 options.

Option 1 I take a 4 point hit and do:
Carr > Huth/Hangeland (delete as appropiate)
          Nasri > Dempsey

Opion 2 I take an 8 point hit and do the above as well as:

similar position to me mate. I still have my lead, but lost serious ground. Went for lampard and luiz instead of malouda and drogba last week.

Id say calm it down for the moment, avoid too many hits, id maybe do option 1, match him with huth, and do nasri>dempsey and captain dempsey.

Dont do the 8 pointer id say.

Last week has taught me a painful lesson about bandwagons and points hits. Go with your gut and take the captains poll and the number of transfers in with a pinch of salt

As for your post i would go A. Elmander playing too deep or wide, osman away to Man U and wolves struggling to keep clean sheets makes option B look a bit crap.
