Our Watchlist player rankings for the final three gameweeks of the season have now been updated and can be viewed in your right-hand sidebar as usual. Our analysis of the current standings is being split this week, to allow us more time to discuss the options available and the reasoning behind the new standings.

We begin by looking at the options available in goal and in the back four, and with clean sheets at a premium at this late stage, there’s clearly greater emphasis on supplementary points when it comes to assessing transfer targets. Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Save Points and Bonus come into play more than ever, while there’s never been a better time to invest in defenders who pose a precious goal threat. Finally of course, the double fixtures for both Man City and Spurs hand their players a short-term boost which promotes them in our thinking.

Joe Hart’s position at the top of the keeper rankings is safe and, despite his hefty Fantasy price tag, he is set to enjoy a renaissance when it comes to investment over the next few days. City’s four fixtures should return at least one clean sheet, while Hart’s propensity to earn Save Points is proven and should come into play for the crunch clash with Spurs.

Hart’s opposite number Heurelho Gomes is under fire following his Stamford Bridge calamity. It may seem folly to consider the error-strewn Brazilian but Harry Redknapp has stated that he will stand by him and, coupled with a double fixture and home matches against Blackpool and Birmingham, there’s enough to earn Gomes the second spot in our rankings. Available for 5.2 in the FPL, investment in the Spurs defence comes down to Gomes’ Save Point potential versus Michael Dawson’s goal threat and his chances of earning Bonus Points. With other targets available to us in defence, Gomes looks the better option for those who can’t find the funds for Hart.

While that pair are already the most “transferred in” keepers in the FPL this week, West Ham’s Robert Green, priced at 4.8 in the FPL, provides an option lower down our rankings for those searching for a mid-price solution. Again, Save Points are the draw here with the Hammers perhaps unlikely to earn shut-outs given their current form, despite facing decent fixtures over the run-in.

While the aforementioned Michael Dawson remains a tempting option for double gameweek investors, we’ve placed the centre-back in fifth spot in our defender rankings with the likes of David Luiz, Leighton Baines and Aleksandar Kolarov all better placed. Bolton’s Gary Cahill is also ranked above the Spurs man with fixtures that hand him opportunities to fetch at both ends of the field. We will bring you an in-depth look at Cahill’s potential over the remaining games later this week.

Kolarov’s position at the top of our rankings is perhaps controversial. There’s every chance that the Serb will fall victim to Roberto Mancini’s purported plans to rotate ahead of the weekend trip to Goodison but, with doubts still surrounding the availability of Micah Richards and Pablo Zabaleta, we’re expecting to see Kolarov make at least one appearance in the gameweek. There’s even a possibility that we’ll find him taking up a left-midfield role should Mancini look to strangle Tottenham’s threat on the flanks when they visit Eastlands. Above all, Kolarov’s booming left-foot and set-piece involvement is enough to keep him simmering above team-mate Joleon Lescott who himself, may get rotated when City visit his former club Everton at the weekend.

With attacking potential remaining key to our defensive targets, we’ve kept Robert Huth high in our rankings, despite the fact that clean sheets look very unlikely over Stoke’s daunting last three fixtures. Huth has home matches with Arsenal and Wigan and, given his goal output this season, it would be no surprise to see him notch another strike before the curtain falls.

Sunderland’s Nedum Onuoha is without doubt the most intriguing selection in our rankings. Steve Bruce pushed the big defender up front against Fulham on Saturday; desperate measures with the Black Cats trailing by a 3-0 deficit. Onuoha has experience in the striker role as a youngster and could well be called into service for Sunderland’s remaining fixtures given the lack of a physical presence available to lead the attack. Even if he starts in defence, there’s every chance that Onuoha will be thrown up front should the Black Cats need to chase games as they battle for every point.

It represents a big gamble given the porous state of Sunderland’s back four, but he would certainly offer a differential with perhaps more potential to deliver than the likes of Jose Enrique, Wayne Bridge and even the cheap option offered by Liverpool’s John Flanagan. If you’re in the market for an end of season minor miracle – Onuoha looks the most likely option amongst the defensive candidates available.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

SuperDorrans, got one of these last year -

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FM-Radio-Transmitter-Car-Charger-IPod-IPhone-3G-3GS-/250660228519?pt=UK_MP3_Player_Accessories&hash=item3a5c838da7

Very simple to operate, put the FM transmitter on any frequency that you want (using +- arrows on the device) and tune the car radio into the frequency. Also, you can plug it into the cigarette lighteer and it charges your iPod too.

splash out serious cash if you are going to get one SD,

the cheap ones get lots of static interference! I had to give up on my one , cost me 25 euro, it was very annoying!

Saying that my buddy got a different one, for about 35/40 and he says there are no static issues!

I am going to bring Dawson in for the DGW but who should I get rid off?

    Baines or Coleman...

Would like to get rid of Baines to free up some cash but on the other hand Colemans game time appears very limited and Evertons fixtures are shit... I cant see them keeping a CS in any of there next 3 games....

Tell me ehy I shouldnt get rid if Baines..

I'd keep Baines as you don't need cleanies with him. he's been quality this season 3 goals in the last 5 games, the defender with the strongest attacking threat 11 assists - only Drog Fabs and Nani have more. Fixtures would be the only consideration

Wouldn't touch Dawson. I have him but he's not playing in a reliable defence. Much better to keep Baines, he's just about the only defender getting regular attacking points. Why are you talking about moving Baines when you've got A Cole, much better to lose him.

IMO you're strong enough anyway in this DGW, it's not a good one really.

The other option is to get rid of Nasri for Bale / Modric..

Looks to me like he's just working the form and fixtures. Chelsea are the form team in the league and had a double gameweek not so long ago, Man City have one coming up, while United have just been away to Arsenal.

My team isn't a whole lot different, and I don't really care who wins the league (unless, by some miracle, it's Arsenal), or who finishes fourth (ditto).

Got rid of the Utd players due to the fact they were playing Arsenal & Chelsea plus if they win the league they will put out a virtual reserve team for the last 2 fixtures..

So far I have been proven right..

Just 1, Rooney and he's cost me big time in the last few weeks, although I guess he's been a little unlucky.

I just think 3 City players is overkill when they will be resting players left right and centre. I'll take a bet with you know that all 3 of your players wont get 2 starts each in the DGW.

All the huff and puff from Madrid sympathizers on here, its a shame they cant see the wood from the trees. They were comprehensively outplayed over 180 mins, some Barca players indeed let themselves down with some theatrics but this was in part due to the tactics employed by real, i.e. to try and stifle them by sailing as close to the wind as possible. Those disputing the foul count tonight, its like that mainly because Barca usually had the ball and because a Real player had to lunge or mistime a tackle chasing around after it. In the end even Alonso resorted to just swiping at Messi. they are the greatest team or this and maybe any generation and Madrid and their ego and indivuals got what they deserved, knocked the f**k out.

On Messi from last weekends paper...

The player who can elect to change or kill a game, knowing his feet are packed with the talent to execute any move -- cause any sort of damage, at any moment -- is playing another sport to the mass of men who lack that capability. This is extrapolation, naturally, but when Busquets stopped the ball, like a servant, and Messi's little legs quickened to take possession it was as if he had seen enough of the ugliness in the game. Or maybe he had just had enough of Real Madrid. By any definition, that is power.

The biggest shame, the biggest disappointment, is if Barca really are near 'the best' ... as their recent "theatrics" are entirely despicable by a team with that sort of class/talent in it.

That's not football. Not the way Game 1 was played.

I'm both ashamed and let-down when a Ronaldo or Nani pull their theatrics for United ... but you have nearly a full team that does so.

Messi could be 10 times the player he is and it wouldn't eclipse the ignoble and disreputable style that Barca has adopted.

              Sell your idolatry elsewhere.

titbit from one of our national papers King Eric. I am a Man Utd fan and although I give us a fighting chance in the final should we get there, unless the Barca passing carousel has a very off night I find it hard to see what would be an upset. they win so many games because they nearly always have the ball and also the greatest player maybe ever to play the game.

Bit harsh, he's just a Barca fanboy, they are a fine side but a little tarnished by Pedro, Busquets, Alves etc being cheating little feckers. (I didn't watch the match tonight so missed any scandal if there was any).

The rolling around of those players does taint them Attila I agree but never has a team drawn as many pretty pictures on a football pitch, been watching football for 25 years and watched countless hours off world cup footage etc from before my time and you are looking to Brazil 70 for a team with comparable mastery of the ball and courage to play the way it was intended.

It was fitting that Wednesday's coup de grace was provided by Messi. On a nasty night, he reminded all of us why we still give allegiance to this often frustrating game. Because the little Argentinian's run right through the heart of the Real Madrid defence embodied the spirit of football at its best. There is probably no other player on the planet who'd have been able to score that goal. It had nothing to do with tactics or planning.

Messi simply took a short pass from one of his team-mates and set off on his own. In fact, none of the other Barcelona players even bothered to support him. They just sat back as though clearing the stage for a great performer to do his solo.

A player like Messi makes nonsense of all the guff about psychological warfare and systems that gets talked about in the run-up to big matches. It was impossible to defend against his run for the second goal; this was the greatest footballer in the world proving yet again the old adage that talent does what it can, but genius does what it must.

It wasn't impossible to defend the second goal by any means, someone should have just clobbered him - you are there as a defender to stop goals, not to make the opposition forwards look good.

I hear ya, but I prefer Milan who could do lots of pretty pictures too, but then had General Franco to stick the boot in where required. Bit of steel along with the flair.

Perhaps, apologies if so. But this:

"... they are the greatest team or this and maybe any generation and Madrid and their ego and indivuals got what they deserved, knocked the f**k out."

              ... set me off.

fair enough yea, a bit strong, taken back. I just cant sympathise with them because for all the talent in their squad they tried to take them on as if they were Stoke or Blackburn

sorry about quoting this article too much but I think its excellent and hits the nail on the head, last titbit...

When the proceedings got particularly spiteful on Wednesday, Ray Houghton bemoaned on RTE the example that this was setting for the football-loving kids of the world. Yet, in the end, what those kids will remember is Messi's goal. Kids are like that, they look on the positive side.

On Thursday morning, I played the goal for my nine-year-old daughter on YouTube. It just felt like something she should see, like a heron in flight, a spectacular sunset or The Wizard of Oz. We watched it again and again and again, this small still moment of beauty carved out single-handedly by a man who is enough on his own to justify the entire enterprise of professional football. We live for moments like that.

There are myriad moments from Messi which you'd like to pass on to the next generation. But Mourinho? Well, try sitting your kids down in front of one of his whingeing, bitching press conferences, and explain that this is all about 'subtle mind games' and see how long they'll stay interested.

I've absolutely no sympathy for Madrid. They are the original Chelsea/Citeh. Buy an entire new team every 5 years, a pox on them. As much as i loath Mascherano, Pedro and Busquets you have to admire the way Barca bring through players who not only are incredible footballers but who also love the club.

It's an easy club to love. Always liked them and Deportivo of the Spanish sides, I'm by no means anti-Barcelona now, I still prefer them to Madrid however they have gone down quite a lot in my estimations and affections.
I'm sure Messi will cry bitter tears when he reads this.

indeed agreed AP, was watching TV3 tonight for coverage of the game (another Irish channel) and Martin Keown was on raving about their unity and willingness to fight for the cause, a team in every sense of the word, you cant buy that as Real have found (and this isnt the first time the Galacticos have come up short).

anywho its a great final, I would love to see Utd topple them and sincerly hope Fletcher is fit to try and disrupt them. They will have most of the ball of that there is no doubt, can Rio et al keep them out and Giggsy hit them on the counter for one glorious swan-song...who knows 🙂

i gotta say, barca arent close to the best team of any generation.

                  They are ruining football!

Yes, they are extremely talented, but incredibly boring, barca during ronaldhino era were much more exciting to watch!

Im readin 'brilliant orange' at the moment (recommended by people on this site- cheers btw)
and he talks about how dutch players wanted to have beautiful passes and could draw diagrams of how they take out 2 or 3 players at once, bergkamp is the modern day example, but looking at barca, altho their passing is exceptional , its very bland!

this is aside from the theatrics , which were shocking tonight!

Also Spain bored me to tears in that world cup.

Pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, corner. Pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, throw-in. It's not like they took teams to the cleaners in terms of what really counts in football, goals.

Barca is all about Messi. Iniesta and Xavi are obviously great technicians but my excitement in football comes through tempo and pace.

Spain bored me at the world cup, but Barca do not.

They play with a high line and pull teams apart. If there's any boredom, it's because other teams try to park the bus - not Barca's fault.

The two games Barca played at the Emirates are two of the best games I've ever seen.

Agree with MF here, Barca differing quite a bit from Spain in mentality.

It's partly down to Messi of course but also down to formation a bit for me, the 4231 just isn't very exciting much of the time but Barca are more attacking with their 433 with Messi dropping a bit and Dani Alves constantly makins his diagonal runs etc.

I have to agree, the Arsa Barca games were exciting, but im not sure if i see them more as an exception

I think Arsenal made them more exciting

I just find Barcelona often over do the passes, at one stage tonight (and in lots of games) they just stop and realise teams are so afraid of us we can stand here and they wont come near us...when they should take that fear and tear them apart

I think tonight was a bit of an exception, as the game was won.

Doing a bit of Man City passing was probably sensible as to not concede another and allow Real back in the tie, and I think they knew if they attacked too much Madrid might try and take a few bodies with them.

I find myself taking the Barca side a bit too much on here, I actually really despise them, but they are bloody good to watch.

Really nice making your transfers early so you don't even have to bother thinking about fantasy football for the rest of the week. Also means you don't have to go through the whole week thinking of all different transfers you can do and then feel sorry for yourself when the player you nearly got scores 15 points that week!

i was worse than this 10 years ago, on the strokes website, and used to spend loads of time on there and even met up with some people and got in touch with albert hammond jr through it

this was just before their first album came out and up to when the second album came out

they f*cking blew me away and it was good sharing that with other people who felt the same

there was a girl on there who made out that she was really hot and we used to stay up for hours talking on the phone and we really had a connection and then when we met, to put it bluntly, she was fat and ugly and there was absolutely NO spark and i felt like that guy did in catfish

looking at the reviews, maybe not,

Although im looking at the negative ones (a bit biased)
the review on the right suggests the problem i had, rescan every few minutes when u change area, to find a new spot without static, becomes a bit annoying , and when i got in my mates car who had a good one, i was shocked, maybe cheggars knows a good brand,

or as amazon have usually a great returns policy, try it and if it doesnt suit, send it back 😀

Could pay off as 2 decent shouts for clean sheets at home to BLA and SUN. Not that keen on keeper transfers tho as there's usually more potential with a mid or striker transfer

I’m looking to swap out ivanovich and meirless for Kolarov and silva and take the 4 point hit, good idea or not? If not kolarov then who as I need 1.4 million on selling ivanovich to fund the transfer of Silva

Another question. Somebody posted this a couple of days ago.

For gameweek 1, get a player who will certainly not play, captain him and put emergency captain as form.

And hey presto, the highest scoring player for that week is your captain.

    Does this really work?

Holland disappointed me all the way through. Sneijder was their one exception. Basically they got a free run to the final because of one poor half by Brazil.
For me it was the most disappointing world cup I've watched and I've seen them all since 1978.

I have a few very sound gooner friends who are season ticket holders. One was sick so couldn't go and kindly offered me his pass. I was in the home fans (obviously), but it was hardly hostile, there were lots of tarquins and nigels around in knitwear. The fans shouting 'X player is a caaaaaant' every 5 mins were nowhere near me.

It can only be one for me. 4-4 comeback, I was wallowing in despair at half time. Rarely seen a game like it, and for a change it had a pretty happy ending unlike the 4-3 classics against Liverpool.

And of course Sweden vs Holland in Euro 2004. I'm sure you all remember that. Ending with Ibrahimovic blasting a penalty 10 meters above the goal. We would probably have won that tournament if Holland had not lucked out! 🙂

And every game with Real Madrid last time Capello won the league with them. They'd fall behind every game and then rally with 10 minutes left to win it with the craziest late minute counter 11 man counter attacks.

The basic pattern of the Real games around that time:

            - Start losing.
            - Take Beckham off in second half.
            - Win.

Arsenal have been involved in a few in the last 3 or 4 years (normally on the wrong end). The 2-2 with United from a few years back was really good, as were the two home games with Barca.

Nah, that was the 2-4 I think.

I'm taking about the one at the Emirates when Gallas scored in the last minute. It's a bit of a forgotten one, but it was a cracking game of football, with United scoring late, then us scoring later.

No I think it was 2-2 when RVN scored his goal, a few years earlier.

I've been to Highbury twice, clock end before the roof was added, and lost twice I think both 1-0. Who'd have thought it. Not been to the Emirates yet.

Yeah, the Platt one was really good. Vieira scored an absolute cracker.

Wasn't too keen on the CL semi. I suppose it would have been nice for United fans but as a game of football *tries to be objective as possible* it was all over very quickly. The last 75 mins of the game was Arsenal banging their heads against a brick wall, laced with a wonderful counter-attack from united.

My favourite game of all time for quality and sheer drama was the 3-3 draw between France and Germany 1982 world cup semi final. It was the most amazing game ever, but the wrong team won on penalties.
It was 1-1 after full time and then 4 goals in extra time. France were leading 3-1 with just 15 minutes left. Arghh the agony, and it was the French who I generally dislike, but had an amazing team.

i genuinely thought about this for a while. if johnson is roy's brother and adam johnson is roy's nephew then johnson must be adam johnson's dad? he could be his dad or his uncle, if roy only has 1 brother then johnson has to be his dad. however if roy has more than one brother then johnson could be adam johnson's uncle.
all that thought just for 1 comment. what a waste 😉
