This morning reports are suggesting that Manchester City captain Carlos Tevez is closing in on a return to action.

Itโ€™s stated that Tevez is โ€œrunning at full pace and kicking a ball againโ€ and could be back in full-training at Carrington today or tomorrow. An appearance against Tottenham on Tuesday, in the second fixture of Cityโ€™s double Gameweek, may well be on the cards. This latest update comes just days after other sources suggested that Tevez was still struggling to be in contention for the FA Cup Final on May 14.

The skipperโ€™s comeback would be a timely one and it will unquestionably boost Cityโ€™s attempts to leap over this seasonโ€™s final few hurdles – these being the Wembley final and securing Champions League football with a fourth place finish.

Significantly, Roberto Mancini has stated that Tevez must play some part in Tuesday’s clash with Spurs if he is to factor in City’s FA Cup lineup.

“It is very difficult for him to play against Everton and if he doesn’t play against Tottenham, it will be impossible for Carlos to play in the final.”

That has undoubtedly motivated Tevez and should it be confirmed that he has returned to full training this week, then the striker would seem certain to play a part in Tuesday’s game. His level of involvement could ride on the result of Saturdayโ€™s clash with Everton – a win would cement fourth spot, but should City drop points at Goodison, City and Spurs will still have much to play for, which would set the scene for the re-introduction of Tevez.

In Fantasy terms, the striker has been an almost essential Fantasy asset – fetching an impressive 19 goals, 6 assists and 29 Bonus Points in the Fantasy Premier League game, which has given him a total score of 170. Despite his term of absence, Tevez is still owned by over 18% of managers in the game โ€“ they will certainly be hoping to see their man return to play some part for Cityโ€™s final three matches.

Those without Tevez wonโ€™t be feeling so positive about the possibility of a return. The potential offered by Mario Balotelli, David Silva and Adam Johnson now appears to be less secure with Tevez in the equation, casting doubt on double gameweek investment.

Elsewhere in the City squad, Nigel de Jong and Pablo Zabaleta are both expected to be fit to play at the weekend after suffering minor injuries; Micah Richards could return to the bench for the trip to Goodison Park.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

    My team
    Foster (Begovic)
    Luiz, Baines, Ivanovich (Djourou, Foley)
    VDV(c), Yaya, Kuyt, Meireless (Barton)
    Carroll, Van Persie, Rooney

I’m thinking of the following, what’s my best option

    a) Ivanovich & Meireless – Cahill & Silva (4 Point hit)
    b) Ivanovich & Meirless – Kolarov & Silva (4 point hit)
    c) Ivanovich & Carroll – Kolarov/Cahill & Odenwinbie (4 point hit) and play Barton instead of Meireless
    d) Ivanovich, meireless & Carroll – kolarov/cahill, Silva & Odenwingbie (8 point hit)
    e) Carroll & Meirless for Odenwinbie & Walcott/Dempsey (bench Ivanovich & play Djourou)

Any other advice on my team and who I should get out and get in for this week, chasing a leader with 40 points on me..

So lescott. A better punt than kolarov? Less likely to be rotated?

Hes an FPL golden boy of previous seasons so hes definitely got it in him to produce the fantasy points.

would like VDV for this gameweek, but can't see how i can get him in.

    my midfield is
    Lampard A.Young Adam O'Hara Kuyt

Want to keep lampard and kuyt because they are in form players.

a.young has a nice game v. wigan, i remember him scoring in the reverse fixture this year.

the other two i can't trade because i would have to take a hit to get VDV.

any advice out there, team in link.

No. Tt's based on the logic that if chelsea get a consolation goal, Lampard is likely to be involved, as opposed to Djourou who is likely to be out of the match, let alone concede to free scoring stoke city.

Kolarov has been taking an absolute beating on here lol and rightly so. Maybe one day he'll defend himself, if he can do that, with a goal and a cleanie....Wishful thinking at best I guess.

I remember there was a Lazio fan on here earlier in the season when there was a lot of hype around Kolarov. He warned us that he never really scores or assists despite is many attempts. It's a shame that none of us listened to him!

i'm afraid I have normal sized balls so no, his penalty duties, possibility of an assist, even a cheeky goal will remain in my side.

really? Adam is all about bonus, which he hasn;t got recently. Also he's playing away against another bonus pt magnet in Modric.

I think Man Utd winning 2-1...with Lampard getting an assist or the goal is more likely than Adam getting anything.

But as I said my balls are just normal sized.

People (myself included) have been working on the assumption that if chelsea and man united need a good goal difference they will automatically destroy teams...

I've been thinking a bit more about it though, and I don't think it works like that - If anything the opposing teams will play extra tight because they know the situation. (Even blackpool have tightened up a little bit te last 2 games!)

Also, the pressure on united and chelsea will be immense... and in my experience, teams find it difficult to play free flowing attacking football under pressure like this... United are the kind of team who can win 1-0 under pressure, and chelsea are the kind of team who can win 6-0 with NO pressure.

      Pressure? What pressure?

I'm probably completely wrong, but I've always been of the opinion that if the top teams attacked full out, they'd be able to score a lot more goals than they'd think.

normally when it gets to 4 r 5, teams lay off a bit.

Chelsea didn't do that last season, they continued to play as if it was 0-0. Hence them scoring so many.

They way United have played in their last few games, mid-table Bundesliga teams aside, you can see Chelsea nicking a win.

can't see it myself, even without the goals flowing atm they're still near impossible to beat at OT. Especially when a draw will suit them.
One thing I'm sure of though, if Carlo starts torres and drogba utd are champions. The difference is night and day when they play 4-3-3, it's not just the strikers but the entire team that suits that system. He seems a bit of a dill sometimes for someone so successful.

hmm Chelsea were in the same position last season, and beat them comfortably (a lot more comfortably than the scoreline suggested too).

actually drogba was offside and macheda scored a handball so it would have only been 1-0 chelsea not 2-1 so only 102 goals scored not 103. HA!

    Foster (Begovic)
    Huth Kolarov Luiz (Coleman, RJ)
    VDV(c) Silva Lampard Adam Young
    Odem RVP (Gyan)

This is my team having done Nani > VDV, I'm going to wait and see how many changes my rival makes (I'm 23 behind), if he does take a hit do you think it's worth me going Gyan > Ba for a 4 point hit? I know I shouldn't be taking hits if I'm trailing but it's not as though Gyan is going to get me any more points; and if I do make the switch should I drop Adam or Lampard to the bench?

Adam, no. He's a bonus man and he's up against Modric the bonus king.

Lampard is tidy. Even if they lose he'll be involved with penalty duties or maybe even an assist.

As you will take a 4 point hit, Ba needs to score or get an assist to make any gains on the 4 point hit. Has a good chance of doing that playing at home and scoring last week.

Thomas Vermaelen could be set for a remarkable Arsenal return at Stoke on Sunday.

The Belgium defender has not played for the Gunners since August and has undergone surgery on a troublesome Achilles injury.

But he played for the reserves at Manchester United last Thursday and could come straight in for Johan Djourou, who suffered an ankle injury against Manchester United last weekend.

Guess he might not play ?

2 surprisng facts about balotelli -

He's only been benched 3 times this season, including first game back after an injury.

He's only had 1 yellow card in his last 6 appearances.

Hey Lads, Opinions sought on my own personal VDV conundrum. Is VDV worth getting in for the dgw at the expense of Lampard, or Valencia (4 pt hit)?

    Bego (Fos)
    Lescott Djourou Luiz (P.Jones RJ)
    Lamp Silva Adam Yaya (Valencia)
    Sturrige (inj?) RVP Rooney

    A) Lampard> VDV
    B) Valencia + RJ > VDV + Walker (4 point hit)

    C) nothing. play both Valencia (will he start?) and Lamp (will he score ) and watch in despair as VDV scores a hatrick vs Blackpool..

    My team
    Foster (Begovic)
    Luiz, Baines, Ivanovich (Djourou, Foley)
    VDV(c), Yaya, Kuyt, Meireless (Barton)
    Carroll, Van Persie, Rooney

Want to get silva in for Meireless, don't have enough money so will swap out Ivanovich but for who..

Was thinking Cahill as bolton are at home or Kolarov for a Double game week, but will he play both games??

Or swap out Ivanovich for cahill/kolorov and carroll for odenwingie? and play meireless or Barton
