Despite slipping to defeat in their last couple of Premier League outings – and with nothing but pride left to play for, Bolton boss Owen Coyle is still adamant that his side are looking to finish the season strongly.

A predictable claim of course but, with fixtures against the Premier Leagueโ€™s biggest two underachievers since the turn of the year (SUN blp MCY), and then a Reebok clash against Manchester City – who may rotate having already achieved their Champions League status – Boltonโ€™s prospects look decent and their Fantasy assets remain worthy targets.

While Fantasy Managers ponder the availability of the prolific Daniel Sturridge up front, at the back youโ€™ll find Gary Cahill who has been a stand-out performer for the Trotters in recent seasons and has maintained that form over a difficult season for Bolton defensively. Cahill climbed to second spot in our Watchlist rankings earlier this week and is very much on the radar for the final three gameweeks.

An inevitable transfer target in the Summer, Cahill’s potential this season has been severely hindered by Boltonโ€™s inability to keep their sheet clean; Owen Coyleโ€™s side have kept just 5 shutouts all season. The situation could be due for change however, with Bolton squaring up to a couple of encounters that offer them the opportunity to improve that defensive record.

Sunderland are perhaps the team that every Manager wants to face at the moment; they have failed to score in 6 of their last 8 games and the side is riddled with serious injury problems. With no recognised strikers with any experience available, you have to fancy any opponent to keep a clean sheet against the Black Cats – they travel to the Reebok next.

Bolton’s clean sheet prospects continues over into the follow-up fixture against Blackpool who, for all their attacking verve and effort, have managed to score just 3 times over their last 5 Premier League fixtures. Clearly Bolton are one side offering the promise of at least one more clean sheet then โ€“ a rarity at this stage in the season. While Jussi Jaaskelainen is due to be recalled against Sunderland and is a consideration in goal, in front of him, Cahill stands head and shoulders above his team-mates from a Fantasy perspective.

As well as being renowned for first-rate defending, Cahill also exudes plenty of attacking potential. This season he has found the back of the net on 3 occasions and offers great aerial threat from set-pieces and corners. As can be seen over in the Membersโ€™ Area, Cahill has managed 14 attempt on target this season – only bettered by set-piece specialists and forward thinking full-backs Leighton Baines and Aleksandar Kolarov.

Indeed, Cahill himself has recently stated just how confident he is feeling at set-pieces as he looks to add to his season goal tally…

โ€œAs of the last month or two, I think Iโ€™m playing my best football of the season. Iโ€™d just like to add one or two more goals. Every time I go up for a corner or free-kick at the moment, I feel like I am going to score.โ€

If Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Bonus Points are anything to go by, Cahill is the best defender in the league – accumulating the highest at 23 so far this term. In his last 4 outings he has been awarded 5 bonus points for his efforts and is clearly in some decent form going into the close season. Cahillโ€™s domination in the air and strength in the tackle within the Bolton back four will always catch the eye โ€“ if the Trotters do keep a clean sheet over the final three games, Cahill is almost guaranteed a Bonus return.

Thereโ€™s plenty of tabloid speculation surrounding his future at the club, but a possible move to Man City is inconsequential for Fantasy Managers right now. All that matters is that Cahill offers strong potential for returns at both ends of the field over the final games; potential that can be acquired for a fee of 5.5 in the FPL making Cahill a very worthy target for those looking beyond this weekendโ€™s double gameweek temptations.

The way Sunderland played last week he could easily get a double figure score this week and be a better option than any of the DGW defenders.

I'm tempted to do Coleman to Cahill.

    Hi everyone

    Could you please RMT?

    VDS (Mignolet)
    Luiz, Walker, Kolarov (Carr, Coleman)
VDV(c), Young, Kuyt, Y Toure (Adam)
    RVP, Drogba, Zamora

I already made 2 transfers this week to get the above for a -4

Would you keep team as is? Or make one more -4 transfer?

    Thanks!

Thomas Vermaelen could be set for a remarkable Arsenal return at Stoke on Sunday.

The Belgium defender has not played for the Gunners since August and has undergone surgery on a troublesome Achilles injury.

But he played for the reserves at Manchester United last Thursday and could come straight in for Johan Djourou, who suffered an ankle injury against Manchester United last weekend.

Guess Djourou isnt playing against Stoke(a) ?

Not too rusty, he's been playing reserves, and training with the team for weeks now. Bolton will regress and Sunderland will surprise. I'm doubling down on Sunderland, benching Sess, and grabbing Onuoha, his pwnage of Chelsea was all I needed to see. I can't see them playing Sully Muntari again this season...

    Current defence:
    Luiz, Huth, Kolarov, Bardsley, Djourou

Unsure of Djourou's status with injury and Vermaelen; Bardsley's just a no-go because it's Sunderland; Huth has got tough fixtures.

Do I need to make a transfer?

      We share the sam3 prob.

      Playing Huth : 2pts max!

      Playing Huth > Dawson/Cahill : 2pts + (-4 hit) = 6pts vs Dawson 6pts(1 cleanie) + 2pts (vs Citeh) = 6pts vs 8pts. Kinda... But Dawson can play next 2 fixtures also and might get over 8 pts.

      So is it worth it?

Huth's heading ability and Delap's length of throw do not depend on the foe. Dawson's clean sheet does.

But here's Cahill's most recent away stats

            3-1-1-2-0.

In conclusion he should score big for two out of three games.

Worse case scenario would appear to be 10 over three games.

Best case scenario would appear to be 32 over three games.

This bandwagon is crazy imo. Yes cahill's a good defender... but he plays for a team who hardly ever keep clean sheets.

I'd be surprised if they get 1, and if they get 2 I'll eat my shoe!

Dawson is a far better option. Spurs keep more clean sheets, have more games to play, and their final game is home to Birmingham.

They also have blackpool at home, while bolton having blackpool away is supposedly half of cahill's appeal.

Dawson is strong but is less likely to earn Bonus given the attacking talent in Tottenham's squad and does not have the same goal threat. Clean sheets could scarce across the board, Cahill is a prospect because he clearly offers more.

I'm looking forward to Cahill playing in a team that can keep clean sheets next season. He will be some player with his bonus potential and hopefully still under 6m.

imo cahill is a poor defender but a big goal threat. his home scores look good becasue he's managed to score 3 home goals recently and none away. bolton have though managed some home clean sheets lately. sunderland no striker, cahill a bp whore and attacking threat, i'm cahsing a hefty lead = worth the gamble imo. if i was top of my mini league i wouldn't touch the guy

less in my opinion, you've never seen Birm. erupt for more than 2 goals in a match, and they definitely don't have scorers...a team full of mid-fielders (Sunderland) can score on Bolton. To me it should come down to set-piece prowess and Cahill fits the bill. He gets up and in clean, and at this point in the season you can expect clean sheets all you want...

It's too late to be wasting transfers on defenders, unless you are struggling to field 3 healthy defenders, you will surely do better by fine-tuning your midfield and attack.

He's not the best defender in the league but he's certainly amongst the best statistically. In Bolton's side, he's clearly very effective and stands out in the same way that Charlie Adam hogs attention for Blackpool.

How shall i get VDV in?

    A) Terry, Coleman, Adam -> Kolarov, Simpson, VDV
    B) Lampard, Coleman -> VDV, Lescott (would get Lamps/Malouda in for VDV next week)

I was thinking earlier about getting drogs next week, what concerns me is that Ancelotti may still try and fit torres in the team. With Lampard you know he is on pens and is a guaranteed starter. Man u coverage could be essential though. I'm going to try fit Valencia, nani and rooney in for the BLP game.

huth doesn;t just score headers from set pieces as sunderland found out to their cost.

Huth like Cahill or Hangeland is one of those players at home that can easily rack up 15 pts.

Sufficed to say a lot were conceded during Flapihandski's tenure of the number 1 shirt.

Gibson isn't too bad, he's not Man United standard but he has the capacity to perform well. Haven't seen Perch do anything useful thus far, I'd be happy to see a bit of the dead wood
(Routledge, Perch, A.Smith amongst others) cleared out. Priority One though is a striker, Ameobi may be popular with the fans but he simply isn't good enough, nor is Best, and Ranger hasn't really shown any big promise.

    A. Dempsey and Walters out for Toure and Modric
    B. Lamps and Walters out for Toure and VdV. Would bring Malouda in the week after as Chelsea cover.

With option A Silva would be captain but VdV in option B.
    Thoughts would be well appreciated.

Dempsey and Walters out. Stoke have poor games, and Modric is as good a bet as VDV to come good. Lamps on form so worth hanging on to.
