Done and dusted. Despite a muscular second-half effort, Chelsea were simply outplayed at Old Trafford. The Premier League engraver can start practicing his lettering now.

United’s devastating opening, established by a typically slotted finish from “Little Pea” set the tone for a first-half showing that stamped on any plans Chelsea may have had to assume control. The second from Nemanja Vidic exploited the superiority; Frank Lampard’s second-half prod amounted to a nice little bonus for his Fantasy owners, but little else.

Congratulations must go to United on a commanding display but the neutrals amongst us will need to move on swiftly. Fantasy Managers must now consider the impact of today’s “settlement”.

United will go to Blackburn next weekend requiring just a point. Chelsea must go full tilt against Newcastle and hope for the best. Gameweek 37 is still on then – rotation shouldn’t be a major factor.

While next weekend looks stable enough, the final gameweek is now in flux. United will face Blackpool at Old Trafford, six days before they take on Barcelona in the Champions League final. Ian Holloway’s side will surely need a result from the match – United will likely just require a clean bill of health.

Owners of Wayne Rooney now have a major dilemma. Feasibly, Rooney could help spank Blackpool’s behind on their way to the Championship, but it seems unlikely. Given the circumstances, we seem set to witness the languid talents of Dimitar Berbatov against the Tangerines; possibly for the last time in a United shirt. Rooney will likely play some part but it could be just to soak up the applause and parade the trophy. Counting on Rooney to earn minutes and fetch returns looks a risk. With no goals or assists in his last four league games, the decision may already have been made.

We need to assess the United situation carefully – if Ferguson’s lineup against Blackpool can be anticipated, there’s every chance that there will be heavy profits on offer. Berbatov could even be a factor, Nani may come back into the equation. While United effectively ended the title race with today’s performance, they’ve thrown us Fantasy Managers a late curveball on our own quest for glory. It’s far from over around these parts.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Who's on the hit list this week then?

    1. Nzogbia: an almost certainty to come in for me
    2. Some defenders
    3. A Chelsea player? Sense some rotation in the front 3 tho, I think they'll spank Newcastle.

Just catching up on all the drama on the site today. As far as I am concerned this is a really well run site with a decent bunch of members and good articles. There is always a handful that can be difficult to reign in but that's life in general and not just here. I'm going nowhere and more than content to be part of what is good. No agenda but people should stand up and be counted...

I take it that the argument was between JP and RBJ, I was on all day and missed it, but I think I was kindof involved, myself and RBJ were defending Stephen Hunt for that challenge on Cech a few seasons back and JP called us "irish Mugs", which I thought nothing of, but RBJ took it as some racial slur, which was a bit much, and it seems to have escalated from there.

I love this site, Mark and co. do a great job but I also think these things will happen. There is no doubt that the make up of the site has changed a lot this season, some good, some bad, it's all a learning curve for a site getting bigger and bigger, no longer like banter down the local, more like banter in a more upmarket sports bar with a different kind of crowd!

Internet finally back up at school.

Congrats to Man United easily deserved the win today. I just hope that the performance of Kalou will be the last one in a Chelsea shirt. Drogba and Essien's touch was completely missing today, the demise of Essien is really frustrating because he was easily our best player a couple seasons ago.

My only gripe is that Rooney spent around 50 minutes trying to get Ivanovic sent off by a series of dives. He should have just got on with the game.

smart post , i have to agree

I would say I dont think we are witnessing the demise of Essien, hes too good a player, a poor season sure, but demise, hardly. He will be back next season , bigger and better, Lampard on the other hand, i question!

I agree Rooney was really going for Ivanovic to be sent off, but I dont think this was the hot headed rooney, this was fergie, Ivanovic in the opposite PL tie was an absolute thug and today same deal, its how he plays and he does it well, but fergie saw an advantage available, didnt get sent off in the end, but clearly it was a fergie mastermind!

I hope you're right about Essien. The BBC sport gossip column makes very pleasant reading. Lampard and Kaka swap, as well as us being linked with Eriksen. I know it's usually a load of rubbish but I would take that every day of the year.

You are probably on the mark about Rooney.

BTW big respect to Pulis for putting out a full strength side today. I've seen over the years when a lowly club gets to the final they start resting players on masse and when it comes to the final they aren't match fit or the team totally loses its form.

I wouldn't say they're the loudest, but they try their very hardest to influence what goes on on the pitch. To be able to boo the opposition from the first whistle to the last, when they keep 60%+ possession is impressive just for persistence.

They gave Ramsey a really hard time though, as expected. Zero class.

To be fair though, Ramsey should have returned Shawx's message. Lot's of things happen on the football field and they shouldn't spill over to acrimony like that. By not answering he was kind of insinuating that there was malice intended, or maybe he was just towing the club line after the comments of both Fabregas and Wenger after the game last year.
For instance Stuart Holden accepted an apology from Johnny Evans, now that is class.

luls. The trip on Valencia was far far far more blatant than the Smalling one at the bridge. The Lampard handball was just ridiculous. I must say, beating Chelsea is satisfying but beating them WITH dodgy decisions going against us is even sweeter.

Valencia had clearly lost possession of the ball when this apparent 'trip' happened, so - if anything - it should have been a foul on Terry.

Ivanovic should have been sent off, we could have had two penalties, you should have had one. Pretty even I'd say.

Good day for me scoringwise. I do have a miff about my two rivals playing Nani, and getting Adam and RVP respectively coming off their bench due to his no show. Wish he'd have gone on for a sneaky 1.

Oh well, must hope VDV does something spectacular in the week now.

man utd have 1 game a week right through the rest of the season. i'm gambling with rooney, no midweek stuff. i actually reckon ferguson will want to give him minutes to get a goal and some confidence in front of goal. west ham game aside he's hardly been prolific lately

I think he has accepted his role in the later part of the season, he is playing very very well, should of had a few today, but as long as others are banging them in, it's not a big concern for SAF, I am really not sure if I want to keep him

Did the cardinal sin of not listening to my gut feeling this week. Shipped A Young out for VDV, for some reason i though it better to hold on tot Dempsey. :S Hope he explodes vs Liverpool.

Also considered Fletcher for Sturridge up until the Saturday morning, as well as bottled it and changed my captain to VDV from Yaya.

That will be my mantra for next season, go with the gut!

Torres was such a bad signing for Chelsea. Drogba and Torres just don't fit, kinda like Lampard and Gerrard (remember him?!) for England.

I think Ancelotti will go back to playing Drogba and Torres together now, even though he knows deep down the balance is better with Drogba, Malouda and Anelka.

well hes opted for kalou the past games hasnt he, even though anelka is a million times better.

I think torres doesnt quite fit in that system, but I think the pressure has just gotten to him after his first patch without scoring. Torres wasn't as good as people said, nor is he as bad as people say.

And if there's a time to can it. it's at the end of the season.

          And Ramires and Luiz!

Speaking of Torres. Vidic has scored more goals since January. *Chuckle*.

luiz maybe. ramires was bought in the summer. chelsea were playing arguably their best stuff of the season in the month leading up to january. that's why i thought the torres move was madness

Was he? Oh right. Torres has been even worse than Shevchenko imo so far. Saying that, i bet he is banging them in again next season.

    Good Defence for Next week!

    Luiz - Benched
    Coleman - Benched
    Kolorov - Benched?
    Simpson - Chelsea
    Walker - Arsenal

Looks like i will have even less points at the back than this week! Worth taking a hit for new defender? Baines possibly?

ive got virtually the same defense. I want to bring in a man u defender, because they could get 2 cleanies, but im not sure if any of them will get a back to back start...

      any thouights?

As a United fan can see any defender starting both games!
Full backs are a problem at the moment with Evra, Twins and OShea injured, so maybe monitor their fitness? Think Rio Vid will play next week with Evans Smalling against Blackpool? Wes Brown as a punt (RB) lol!

I have two free transfers but would rather change for attacking players who are more likely to get big points, thinking of Young > Nani and Balotelli > Ba? What do u reckon?

Now that championships are being decided, we will get some crazy results.

    Here's GW38 from last season:
    http://www.worldfootball.net/spielplan/eng-premier-league-2009-2010-spieltag/38/

As you can see. Plenty of points still to play for.

No it didn't, I had Lamps and Mark had Drogba, and when Drogba 'stole' that penalty from Lamps my mini league was lost.

DON'T mention the "B" word; it still makes me feel uneasy. It's like a repressed memory.

Amazingly, the c unt did me a turn in a League Cup game. Backed him to score against Port Vale or some team like that and he duly done the business.
