Done and dusted. Despite a muscular second-half effort, Chelsea were simply outplayed at Old Trafford. The Premier League engraver can start practicing his lettering now.

United’s devastating opening, established by a typically slotted finish from “Little Pea” set the tone for a first-half showing that stamped on any plans Chelsea may have had to assume control. The second from Nemanja Vidic exploited the superiority; Frank Lampard’s second-half prod amounted to a nice little bonus for his Fantasy owners, but little else.

Congratulations must go to United on a commanding display but the neutrals amongst us will need to move on swiftly. Fantasy Managers must now consider the impact of today’s “settlement”.

United will go to Blackburn next weekend requiring just a point. Chelsea must go full tilt against Newcastle and hope for the best. Gameweek 37 is still on then – rotation shouldn’t be a major factor.

While next weekend looks stable enough, the final gameweek is now in flux. United will face Blackpool at Old Trafford, six days before they take on Barcelona in the Champions League final. Ian Holloway’s side will surely need a result from the match – United will likely just require a clean bill of health.

Owners of Wayne Rooney now have a major dilemma. Feasibly, Rooney could help spank Blackpool’s behind on their way to the Championship, but it seems unlikely. Given the circumstances, we seem set to witness the languid talents of Dimitar Berbatov against the Tangerines; possibly for the last time in a United shirt. Rooney will likely play some part but it could be just to soak up the applause and parade the trophy. Counting on Rooney to earn minutes and fetch returns looks a risk. With no goals or assists in his last four league games, the decision may already have been made.

We need to assess the United situation carefully – if Ferguson’s lineup against Blackpool can be anticipated, there’s every chance that there will be heavy profits on offer. Berbatov could even be a factor, Nani may come back into the equation. While United effectively ended the title race with today’s performance, they’ve thrown us Fantasy Managers a late curveball on our own quest for glory. It’s far from over around these parts.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I don't really see the issue. They've bought the business with debt capital and equity capital. the cost of equity is greater than the cost of debt, so if hte business can support it then why not use debt?

if debt is such a big problem for moronic united / liverpool/ whoever fans, then why dont they club together and buy the club all with equity and accept a lower return than the debt-holders would receive.

I have to admit I've never been that vociferously opposed to the glazers as their business model for the club (in terms of expanding revenue streams in the far east) is spot on and it's clear they're eventually gonna sell the club on for a tidy profit.

The key issue is if they have enough cash flow to allow us to be competitive in the transfer market. I guess we'll find out this summer.

It's more like me offering to buy your house with a mortgage I've arranged, and then taking the money to pay off the mortgage from the money you earn.

I just wait for the house to appreciate in value, and pocket the profit. Deal?

no it's not. you've got confused

it's like buying a house with a mortgage, renting it out and using the rent to pay the mortgage.

That's what I said. The rent being the money you (the tenant) earns.

I mean we should be a football club, not a buy-to-let tenant, which is what the Glazers have turned us into.

My problem is with leveraged buyouts in general. All the Glazers have done is arrange some debt (when the markets were favourable), I fail to see why they should profit from merely arranging a bank loan.

I just think if you want to buy a football club, you should use your own money, or we'll just go back to being a PLC and pay dividends, rather than 'management fees' to the Glazers on top of the interest payments on their debt.

If you want a figure, off the top of my head 51% equity would make some sense.

Rotation because Chelsea have too many strikers. Even if the starting front three were nailed on Drogba, Malouda & Anelka, Torres would always have to come on as a sub(?) thus messing with any Drogba (c) plans

Chelsea have too many forwards, thus rotation, just to keep everyone happy.

Maybe Ancelotti will just persevere with Drogba AND Torres until it works.

RVP - he will score or get a assist in every game so he is the favourite imo...
LAMPARD-playing at home against newcastle and on pens so he should do well...
KUYT-scoring fpl points for fun atm(thanks to pens and scoring from 1 yard) and liverpool are almost unbeatable at home atm...
ODEM-in form of his life and west brom doing well at home under hodgson...
N'ZOG-on form as well and likely to be involved in wigan attacking play and bp's if wigan do well..
if u want to gamble there are lot of options like sturridge, adam, drog ,malouda, fab(if fit) or a citeh player but i don't think we will know who is going to start against stoke in the pl before the deadline....

Valencia was favoured over Nani against Chelsea to keep Cashley and Malouda quiet, and also because he took one for the team playing as temporary right back when Rafael got injured in the Champions League clash.

I think Nani will be back in the side next week. Not sure who will feature against Barca, so SAF might swap and change a bit over the next couple of games to keep them guessing.

If I had to guess now, I'd say Nani will start vs Barca, with Park on the left for his services.

Basically, they are both a rotation risk.
