It was a case of déjà vu for Peter Crouch at Eastlands last night as the Spurs forward grabbed the winning goal to clinch a Champions League place for the second year running; unfortunately for Crouch, it was an own goal this time round, as his gaffe helped Roberto Mancini’s side end Tottenham’s slim hopes of a fourth-place finish. The result was a timely boost for Stoke City, too; City’s FA Cup final opponents are now ensured Europa League football next season. Here’s the notes from last night’s game…

Tottenham’s Injury Troubles Continue
It’s been a long season, and the injuries are taking their toll on Spurs right now; straight off the back of Gareth Bale’s season-ending ankle injury, Harry Redknapp suffered further misfortunes. The setbacks started before a ball had been kicked with Heurelho Gomes missing out with a back injury, allowing Carlo Cudicini to claim the keeper’s jersey. The Italian stopper duly put in a strong display, making several crucial saves that will give him every chance of retaining the role for Tottenham’s final two matches.

Elsewhere, Wilson Palacios recovered from a knee injury and came in to central midfield, as Redknapp moved Luka Modric wide left in a 4-4-1-1. The shift only lasted half an hour, though; Palacios limped off, with Modric back in his usual central berth as sub Steven Pienaar took up a flank role. William Gallas received treatment twice during the game but was eventually forced off with three minutes to go after heading a Patrick Viera effort off the line.

Having chased fourth place for so long, Spurs now face an uphill task to claim fifth. They are two points behind Liverpool and face a trip to Anfield this weekend, knowing a defeat would give Kenny Dalglish’s men an unassailable lead in the chase for a Europa League spot. Owners of Tottenham’s Fantasy assets will at least take comfort that Tottenham go into gameweek 37 still motivated to earn a result, despite last night’s defeat. Harry Redknapp gave us no doubt that his side remain focused as the season draws to a close…

“We’ll go to Liverpool and try to win and then try to beat Birmingham. Two wins and we’ll finish above Liverpool. That’s what we need to do.”

Carlos Tevez
Sidelined for the last three gameweeks, the Argentine came off the bench with seven minutes to go and looked his busy self, almost scoring on the final whistle. It’s a major boost for Roberto Mancini ahead of this weekend’s FA Cup Final with Stoke and with City just two points behind Arsenal, Tevez’s return will spearhead their chase for third place as they face up to (STK, bol) in the final two games. Should Tevez start at Wembley however, there will be real doubts as to whether Mancini will field his skipper in next Tuesday’s league clash.

Richards’ Return Causes Fantasy Woes
Micah Richards came back into the City XI, starting at right-back in a reshuffle that saw Pablo Zabaleta move to left-back. This proved a real source of frustration for owners of Aleksander Kolarov, as the Serbian dropped to the bench.

A bloody nose forced Zabeleta off after 57 minutes, with Kolarov emerging for the remainder. Despite City’s clean sheet, neither grabbed sufficient minutes to earn the points, giving them paltry returns over the double gameweek. The full-back rotation has proved costly for Fantasy Owners over the season; with 16 clean sheets, City clearly have defensive potential but while Joe Hart has 162 pts, Kolarov and Zabaleta have 150 between them.

City Rotation
Mancini’s lineup at Wembley will be a key guide for his teamsheet for gameweek 37’s league clash with Stoke three days later. While City remain motivated to claim third spot, it’s hard to imagine that Mancini will resist the temptation to rest players following the weekend showpiece. As mentioned, Tevez looks vulnerable should he be deployed for the bulk of Saturday’s game. Elsewhere we should expect further rotation at full-back, with Kolarov perhaps set to see action on Tuesday night should he be benched in the Final. Despite last night’s frustration then, his owners may still see the merits of holding him for the final two gameweeks.

David Silva and Yaya Toure are set to play their third match in seven days on Saturday – they both look candidates for a rest, with Shaun Wright-Phillips and Patrick Vieira the obvious replacements. Gareth Barry, who missed out again last night, remains a doubt for Saturday’s game – he is set to find out his fate today following a hamstring injury.

    Hi All

Was going to get Nzog in though who to transfer out for him? If anyone ..?

    Current Mids:

Lamps, Adam, VDV, Modric & Silva

I was thinking VDV .. which seems wrong .. but ..

    Thoughts would be very welcome.

    Silva or A.Young -> N'zog?

Young guaranteed 90 mins on on set pieces whilst Silva may be rested? Fixtures on Silvas side though..

Something im pondering myself. Ive just checked and Villa are pretty decent on set pieces, and defending set pieces has been Arsenals weakness, so to be fair to villa they're not without a chance this weekend.

I think I might get rid of Silva as no one else im my leagues has him anyway and i'd prefer to have someone guaranteed 90. With The FA cup final & Tevez' return Silva is certainly subject to rotation!

    My team is:
    Al Habsi/Cech
    Huth/R Johnson/Samba/Elmohamady/Luiz
    VDV/Silva/Ya Ya/Adam/Dempsey
    Odemwingie/RVP/Drogba

I'm 8 points ahead in my fantasy league.

I'm not sure what changes to make.

I'm thinking of swapping Silva for Kuyt. . . wish I could make a few more too but don't think 8 points is enough to play around with.

Is Silva -> Kuyt a good move?

What would be your 4-point flutter suggestion, if I were to make a 2nd change?

    Thanks

        good idea.

If I swap Silva for Kuyt, then the only difference in our midfields would be that he has Nani and I have Yaya.

we both have Dempsey, VDV, Adam

but then, he hasn't yet made any changes for gw 37.

It's not my way. I want to outscore him! Would prefer to go into the last week with a bigger lead.
I'm pretty sure he's copied me in the last few weeks though.

Hey guys, after my punt on Lolarov over yaya and VDV captain like so many of us I've drifted away again from my rivalsand now need to take the gamble to chase the 20 point lead.

I'm probably going do Lampard as captain as the 2 places i'm chasing dont have him however I'm not really sure what transfer to do this week.

Was thinking Suarez and nzog but have no idea how to get them in can you help at all? 😀

    Foster | Al Habsi

    Luiz | Huth | Simpson | R Johnson | Lolarov

    Lampard | Walcott | Silva | Young | VDV

    RVP | DJ | Sturridge

Maybe even take a risky 8 point hit and hope it pays off somehow?

    My defence:

Kolarov Luiz Simpson Berra Kelly *cries into tea*

Am i mad leaving it and taking no hit, it's quite conceivable only Simpson will play and that will be Chelsea (a).

Any advice please? Any transfers will be for a hit

It's difficult to imagine many cleanies at this point in the season. If you are desparate though as your defence is in bad shape I'd suggest Rjohnson as a cheap option or GJohnson if you've got money to spend. Both offer chance of attacking returns.

didn't realise berra had lost his place. yeah go for that one if it gives you more money. also i'd wait for ancelotti's press conference too, he might give some clues about luiz. if he plays down the "spat" then it probably means luiz is playing so keep hold and ditch berra, any sign that he wont be playing and it's probably worth ditching him to get the most cash possible.

    Forster, VDS
    Djourou, Huth, Hangeland, Coleman, Luiz,
    VDV, Vaughan, Yaya, Silva, Kuyt,
    RVP, Surez, Sturridge.

Very worried about rotation this week. I have 3.2 in the bank luckily. 74 point lead at the top of my league at the moment but not taking any chances as I'm facing some strong teams.

My defence is sh;t and my midfield is looking very ropey this week. With squad rotation and all.

    I'm thinking

    1) VDV - N'Zog,
    2) Yaya - N'Zog
    3) Vaughan - Larrson
    Yaya - N'Zog (4 point hit)

What do you think? Any other suggestions?

Welbeck to someone who is playing (Odemwingie if you can afford it, someone else if not - Ameobi?). This will give you more coverage for players who may be rested at this stage in the season, e.g. Yaya / Silva after the FA Cup final

If it was me I'd be tempted to do both and take the hit (especially if you think your rival will) this week to give you more chance of having 11 playing. Then you'd have another free transfer to use next week

I could really do with some help with my team, I’m struggling to maintain a 20 point lead.

With all the rotation threats I’m really not too sure on what transfer(s) to do this week. I was thinking of getting N’Zogbia in but really don’t know who to drop, so I suppose I should finally get rid of Kelly, but the defenders really don’t seem to be providing too many points.

How about Silva or VDV to N’zogbia

Maybe also do Yaya to Malouda?

    My Team
    Foster, Begovic,
Kelly, R Johnson, Luiz, Huth, Dawson
    Yaya, Silva, Adam, VDV, O’Hara,
    Rooney, Drogba, RVP

    His Team
    Foster, Jaaskelainen,
    Bardsley, Dawson, Luiz, Kolorov, Coleman
