The last midweek Dugout Discussion of the season sees a repeat of the enthralling FA Cup Final between Manchester City and Stoke City. There’s no silverware at stake tonight, but for Man City there is the genuine incentive of leap-frogging Arsenal into third, with automatic Champions League qualification the reward for sitting there come Sunday evening.

Although not a televised game, the Dugout Discussion is open for business and serves to house your reactions as the news comes in. The first news in are those all-important line-ups…

Man City XI: Hart, Richards, Kompany, Lescott, Zabaleta, Milner, De Jong, Silva, Yaya Toure, Adam Johnson, Tevez.

Stoke XI: Sorensen, Wilkinson, Collins, Shawcross, Wilson, Pugh, Diao, Whelan, Whitehead, Walters, Carew.

Roberto Mancini names David Silva and Carlos Tevez amongst his first eleven, with the former playing despite being tagged a major injury doubt. Aleksander Kolarov misses out again, to the annoyance of those still unfortunate to own him.

Stoke also make a host of changes, with popular fantasy players Asmir Begovic, Robert Huth and Matthew Etherington all sidelined for one reason or another. Elsewhere, John Carew earns a rare start at the expence of Kenwyn Jones.

Akers Richard or Akers, as he is known, has been regularly haunting this site since July 2008. He is young and foolish, take what he says with a pinch of salt. Follow them on Twitter

on second thought, if Berbs starts, I imagine they might put him on it, bc of the golden boot race. But who knows, maybe he doesn't care about that (judging by his usual body language)

Poor guy, always getting judged by his body language. When he scored a hat trick against liverpool he looked so awkward when he got a standing ovation.

I don't think he lacks desire, he's just a bit of an introvert.

The answer is clearly to captain Kolarov - He needs 20 goals to get the golden boot, and according to many reports on this site, he's nailed on to get it!

I think they play negative as a team, but that doesn't mean they can all individually defend. Also, the pace of the English game is greater... I've seem lolarov arriving late to cover..on I don't know how many occasions

    Two free transfers this week.

    Looks like they'll be:

    Rooney > Tevez
    Sturridge > Berbatov

One of them must surely score to try and win the golden boot!

Wouldn't get Nani. No form, nothing to really play for. I'd get Kuyt or Modric over him. Probably Kuyt since Liverpool still have a chance at Europa league.

Maybe, but not Nani. He's too suspect defensively against the best attacking team in the world.

The surprises could be at right back or CM. He mightn't play Carrick because he might focus on breaking up the middle rather than passing. Wouldn't be surprised to see Anderson or someone like him in, but Nani won't start, I guarantee it.

I can see your point, but how does that relate to him not playing against Blackpool? He should have scored last week, he was just unlucky.
As far as Kuyt, I don't think he is the same fantasy player out wide..when Carroll is back up top.

                    Penalties, penalties, penalties.

There was a time when I had this team:
Lampard, Adam, VdV, Rooney, RVP, Etherington, Baines

                    That's 7 of 11 on penalties.

Back to the point on Kuyt though, he may not be as great a prospect on the wing, but with the likes of Suarez running in and around the box, he'll always have a chance of getting a goal from nothing.

I think it has to be berbatov. Yes, Tevez is the better player, but their fixture is a lot harder.

Firstly, away from home Man city's approach tends to be keep a clean sheet and nick a goal or 2

At home, United's aim will be to put on a show in the end of season celebrations.

Also, Bolton are pretty good at home and while they also have a leaky defence, it's not quite the kamikazee attempt I expect to see from Blackpool.

Rooney for tevez/ berbatov is undoubtedly a good signing.

I'd only be worried about selling sturridge who could well outscore them both anyway - At home and dominating bolton's goals lately.

I have too many City players... I'll need to lose one of Silva or Toure :/ I guess I'll probably lose Toure and get Modric or lose Silva and get Kuyt.

I like Tevez more than Berbatov. I can see him putting at least a few past Bolton. He's also a big game player, and when the chips are down, and the golden boot's on the line, he'll deliver.

Berbatov hasn't played much at all, so it's a bit of a shot in the dark seeing as he has no form, and well.. how many times have we been burned by captaining players against Blackpool at home?

Ferguson has a history of surprising us in big games, and the fact we all think we know his lineup (including barcelona's coaches) may work in his faovour too.

I think its imperative that park plays. Ive got a sneaking suspicion hes allowing barca to prepare for the run to the touchline then cross it style of valencia, only for him to then throw in the unpredictable nani.

It does seem more likely he'll opt for valencia and park. Ive just got a bit of a hunch.

Best position was tied for first at the beginning of GW1

      Current position is 280.

Current position would have been better had I not listened to FFS recommendations of Boselli and Petrov for the first few weeks. The guys that run this site sounded so confident that I thought that they really knew a lot. Then I looked at the scout picks and rapidly changed my opinion.

I wasn't counting my chickens before they hatch (not sure if that's just a Yank expression or a universal one). I was just curious if the winner received anything.

If I win, perhaps a gift that I can share with everyone is to have anyone who touts Kolarov on this site faces a permanent ban. I heard that Kolarov is Boselli's cousin.

That's pretty impressive if this is really your first season playing considering you'd be new to the rules and everything.

It's sort of my first time playing beyond GW 10, but I wouldn't have done as well if I hadn't had those seasons where I gave up.

Not really much they can do - luck is a factor in this game whether it's weather, freak injuries, fluky goals, refereeing decisions etc.

I think the cancelled games gave an advantage to people who plan, because it brought up some double game weeks later.

All this Berbatov stuff. I dunno. He has no form. I can't see him coming into the team now and banging in five goals from out of nowhere. Big wins normally come out of the huge intensity and effort of something being on the line. If athletes drop their levels at all they lose their edge. And Man U's focus is entirely elsewhere.

It's a good point, but against the leakiest team in the league, and with the golden boot on the line, I think there's plenty of incentive for Berbatov to do well.

    Morning all,

I have a slim 5 point lead in my mini-league, I and my rival both have 1 free transfer this week. Any ideas of who I should transfer in would be greatly appreciated.

    My team:
    Foster
    Luiz, Djourou, Walker
    Lampard, Kuyt, Silva, Adam, VDV
    RVP(C), DJ
    Subs: Mignolet, Zamora, R.Johnson, Coleman
    0.4M in the bank

    Rival's team (last week's formation):
    Foster
    Evatt, Hangeland, Luiz
    Lampard(C), N'Zogbia, Nani, Adam
    Sturridge, RVP, Suarez
    Subs: Begovic, Meireles, Kolarov, Smalling
    0.2M in the bank

He's got more firepower. You need Tevez or Berbatov this week. Sell Lampard and upgrade Zamora.

Tevez or Berba. See above, I think there's potential in both although I'm leaning towards Tevez.

As for a midfielder you might consider Modric as well and maybe Pennant if fit (thats based on his recent home form but Stoke did look awful against City tonight).

1.Zamora to Berba and Lampard to N'Zog

or ignore the captain's poll again and do:

1.Zamora to Tevez and Lampard to Modric

    Robinson (Foster)
    Luiz, Huth, Kolarov (Coleman, Clark)
    Kuyt, Adam, VDV, NZogbia, Malouda
    RVP, Drogba, Odem

Rival's team - last weeks formation
    VDS (Carson)
    Baines, Distin, Huth (Hangeland, Elmo)
    Adam, VDV, Downing, Maxi, Kuyt
    Drogba, Jones, Odem

This tevez Berbatov debate seems to be this weeks topic.
Dont put the blinkers on , there may well be other alternatives this week :=)

I was leaning Berbatov , however im starting to change mind
      1) Blackpool will give 120% Man u somewhat less
      2) Man u reserve side
      3) Berbatov usually does best with Rooney and co around
      4) Hes not had any gametime
      5) Not 100% sure to play

      Tevez
      1) More likely to play (although they prob both will
      2) Hes on a roll
      3) Bolton not much to play for
      4) He guaranteed to put in a good effort

I'm with you on this one.

Tevez is also a big game player. The higher the stakes, the better he seems to play. He'll be wanting that golden boot, and against a Bolton team who have looked absolutely terrible at the back at times (let 4 in VS Blackpool, 5 in VS Stoke) he'll more than likely net a few.

To expand... Bolton's goal difference is +12 at home, but -14 away

They're 6th in the home league and 20th in the away league.

Plenty of people will underestimate bolton but Mancini isn't one of those and so I wouldn't be surprised to see him keeping it tight and going for a 1-0.

I could keep going on about bolton's home record - they've scored more than arsenal at home, and can go ahead of them in the home league if they win this weekend.

So statistically, you should be more inclined to bench a player going to the reebok than one going to the emirates!

You make good points. You would have me convinced if there was a better alternative, but Berbatov isn't it.

              1. No form
              2. No first team players for support
              3. No motivation from the team VS 100% motivated Blackpool.

These things outweigh the fact that they're playing Blackpool at home in my opinion. Also, how many times have we captained a player at home to Blackpool and seen it go tits up?

united's reserves are a lot more experienced than blackpool's first team. There will be a party atmosphere amongst the home fans, and a desperation to win from the away team... and it will be an open game.

I'm not saying united will win but that they'll score goals. I'm fine with 4-3 to blackpool.

But i tell you what, it will not be 1-0 blackpool.

Home advantage is important, but City have been playing so well lately, I don't think it matters enough.

Mancini knows he'll probably have to win to get 3rd spot for sure, so he'll be going for it.

Also, consider the fact that Bolton have absolutely nothing to play for, unlike Blackpool who are fighting for their lives.

I'm talking about home advantage being important and you tell me about 3 away games to back up your point.

Yes I would. He's a beast, he can score against anyone, and if City were travelling to Arsenal, he'd be in the running for my captain.

Would you say that Modric is better to have then N'Zog this gamesweek?

I'm winning ml by 5 points. Is it worth 4 point hit to do lampard to Adam and bent to tevez. All the guys below me have Adam so I think I should get him. And you have to have tevez. I will be capt nzog

If you sell Lampard, do you not have enough money to replace someone other than Bent?

Proposed attack this week, chasing 13 points to make it into the top 1k so need to male the right decisions:

    Kuyt, VDV Lampard, N'Zogbia, Adam
    Tevez, VP, Berbatov

Who to bench, thinking either VDV or Lampard?

Not long till the silly season begins.....roll on all trhe mental Man City transfer rumours and as soon as the site opens for next season endless RMT's...I actually kind of enjoy it....

Hope its as unpredictable as this season though, but only 1 WC for me....

Havent had much time this yr to keep an eye on my team but if I do over the Summer its fun to read about all the different squads etc....

Although the last few eeks are so annoying!

Also Im 40 points off my mini-league after this week-sodding leader had Hangeland and Walker 28 points off the bench!

well unpredictability (is that even a word?) comes mostly from new signings that shake the season around and offer surprises (good or bad)

so lets hope for more of these stuff

Im going for both as I cant afford Tevez! I think both could score well, RVP seems to be insulated from Arsenal's crapness!

For those of you planning to buy tevez and also those planning to sell sturridge. Let me repeat one of many statistics I mentioned a bit higher up the page:

    Bolton's last 6 home games

    WWWWWL

Man City’s last 6 away games

    DLLLWL

    Don't say I didn't warn you!

This is good discussion here. I like how the two of us have such differing opinions.

Bolton's form regardless of home and away fixtures: LLLL

Bolton's last home defeat: Sunderland who hadn't scored in their prior 4 away games and had 1 win in their last 11.

Bolton's last home win: 24th April, almost a month ago, and in the meantime, they've also lost 5-0 against Stoke on neutral ground.

You can choose to use scored's stats or mine.

I don't really care which stats people use or if they're right. I wasn't saying Bolton will win, or that Tevez is a bad option.

I was saying that he's not as clear cut as everyone is making out, and saying why I think so.

Yes bolton are on a bad run but that coincides with a lot of away games - so we don't know if that means anything about their home form except the uncharacteristic defeat to sunderland (in which bolton had a LOT of shots on goal)

The same goes for city except they've had more home games, and are still on a terrible run away from home.

Mancini doesn't play attacking football away from home, Tevez might want to but he is often left frustrated in these games.

Most people already have a team full of away players for gw38, including city players.

you considering RVP out to get in Tevez ?
I have RVP and don't want to offload him. So Drogba out for me.
