We were all set to call this episode ‘Lolorov part 2 – to be continued next season’, but during the recording, something rather more fitting cropped up.

The final podcast of the season is with us to reveal that “deprivation” is the key word when it comes to Mark’s season finale. When Sunday rolls around and the hardcore (I include myself in this) are watching the season finale in glorious HD, Mark is set to be consigned to follow the action via a mobile phone. An old boy is 99 not out and our host is booked in to party along with the Werthers originals and rich tea biscuit dunking. Not the season climax our Mark had in mind.

Even so, Mark could still be smiling. It’s the last gameweek of the season and our rivalry comes down to a precarious 7-point gap in my favour. I’ve been ahead since gameweek 21, surely it would be ridiculous to lose it in this final week? I trust you’ll all be routing for #teamgranville come Sunday.

Listen in and sense my discomfort as we start the build up Sunday’s games, complete with the usual sprinkling of regulars and meaningless banter.

No, very confident. Even if we lose 2 of Blackpool, Wigan and Brum would have to win. Not gonna happen! 😉

It goes on form before the GW starts, not after the GW has finished, so every player's form is set at zero and it reverts to value.

Not that I've tried it, but I'm sure that's what happens.

I doubt Huth will be risked, not worth it with a knee injury. VDV has a minor calf strain, I'd guess he's better than 50/50 to play.

Folks, thanks for all the comments (positive and constructive etc) on our Team of the Season article earlier. For those that missed it here's the link http://wp.me/p16qgr-Dk

Just to add that the RB position was indeed a nightmare to pick (lack of decent options etc, says it all that Chris Baird was a contender), and that the CM was equally tricky with numerous candidates in spite of the once-revered holy trinity of Fab/Frank/StevieG having more modest campaigns.

The Scott Parker selection drew a bit of flak... fair play - WHU got relegated. His slot nearly went to Yaya in fairness, was a tight call.

Oh yeah, the inadvertent omission of David Silva has been amended (he should have appeared in the 'Half-Cigar' section).

Feel free to add your thoughts obviously...
    Thanks again.

Good point. Chelsea's CS record has been grand, and Ivanovic has played in almost every game (but only 10 or so at RB, hence non-selection in TotS). Perhaps he should at least be in the 'close but no cigar' list...

Agree massively. Walker's been great since he got a chance to play in Jan. As a Fulham fan I was quite gutted Sparky didn't pick him up on loan to play instead of Pantsil or Baird. Nevermind eh.

Expect he'll be rb #1 at Spurs next season, we'd take Hutton at Fulham if he's on offer tho...

My thoughts on the Kompany debate:

I think there are two possible reasons for it (and neither of them is Granville's one about the judges looking at Kompany's 3 points!). Firstly, it could be because the BPs are very much decided by the stats. Kompany presumably doesn't do well in the stats deemed to be relevant to midfielders, and so is continually overlooked by the judges. Compared with Gary Cahill - the defender with the most BPs in the league - all his defensive stats are superior.

    (Kompany/Cahill)

    Aerials Duels won: 70%/62%
    Tackles won: 81%/75%
    Interceptions: 86/65
    Recoveries: 529/521
    Blocks: 31/37

So, other than blocks, Kompany is dominating Cahill in every aspect, yet has significantly fewer BPs than Cahill. I know that Kompany is facing stiffer opposition within his own side for BPs, but even James Milner has had twice as many BPs as him this season ffs!

    Second possible reason:

Kompany hasn't won *that* many headers this season. Looking through the list of defenders with the most BPs, a lot of them (in italics) are defenders who's aerial ability is probably their main asset:

    Cahill
    Johnson
    Samba
    Baines
    Collins
    Distin
    Huth
    Evatt
    Jones
    Cole
    Hangeland

Again just comparing Kompany with Cahill, Cahill has one twice as many headers this season - I'd imagine it's the same story with most of the others in that list.

Considering he's widely accepted to have been one of the best players in the league this season, and is in virtually every team of the season, his bonus points tally is nothing short of scandalous. Will be interesting to see just how much things change next season, when he'll undoubtedly be classed as a defender.

Maybe it's just the fact that Tevez and Silva are busy doing the damage at the other end for City? Meanwhile Bolton are under more pressure every week than City are, giving Cahill more to do in the way of clearances / last-ditch tackles etc. And Cahill scores the odd goal or two. Or maybe it's that Bolton don't have as many contenders for BP's as City do

I did mention that, I just think that the fact that Milner - who hasn't always played and has been pretty poor all season - has more BPs than him, detracts from that argument.

There's definitely an element of that, but it should account for the fact that Kompany has got just 5 (five!!) BPs all season. He got nothing in games against Chelsea (1-0), United (0-0) and Arsenal (0-0) where City kept clean sheets and didn't score many/at all. From memory, he was excellent in each of those games too.

Compare that with Dawson and King at the weekend against Liverpool....

Yeah no doubt at all that he's been worth more than 5 bp's all year. I'm just not sure he's a good comparison to Cahill. Maybe he could be compared to John Terry (zero) or UTD's entire defence (19 total bonus). Arsenal's defence has 7bp's and 6 of those are for Djourou

Aerial dominance does seem to be a factor when it comes to BP's. Whether its a stat thing or just that, winning headers catches the eye of the PA rep in the stand, is not clear. This would explain why full-backs struggle for BP's in comparison, despite many putting in as many defensive tackles and blocks.

Hey folks -- I know asking this is a bit of a noobish thing to do ... but could anyone here do that Cap't/Bench greasemonkey comparison-thingee for me?

I promise you laughs, chortles, and enhanced feelings of FPL superiority at the results --

Or, if easier, perhaps you could tell me where to get the script that does it?

I realize it's a bit of a pain to ask, and as a plastic Manc Yank surely it'll be understandable if you'd rather not ...

Anyone who does will have their username as my 5th child's middle name (vasectomy scheduled for next week, so the odds are low).

Excellent podcast as usual, guess a lot of people will be going for Tevez or Berbatov. Have to prefer Berbatov simply because of the fixture and his goalscoring record at home has been outstanding when he has played. Anybody going for a different striker from them two?

Can't understand why so many are transferring out Suarez. His last 4 gameweek scores are 6,12,8,1. It's only because the 1 point is so fresh in peoples minds that they forget how prolific he's been.

In honesty I haven't seen more than a handful of 'Pool games with Lucas featuring this year ... and, no, it's not hard to imagine a better-producing midfielder than Anderson ...

But I wonder how much of the comparison suffers from the relative strength of team surrounding each player. I wonder if that benefits Lucas?

Whatever the case, consider him the 'Brazilian Park' or the 'Anti-Brazilian', at least he's there to give the appearance of some street cred to United ... imagine if Nani were the young, "street" face?

Best (most mesmerising) performance I've ever seen live is Kewell within touching distance in our final season at Filbert Street.

It should be added I've only ever seen games at Filbert Street and the Walkers so my spectrum isn't the broadest ever (I.e. City and our opponents down the years), and Dennis Bergkamp is the best player I've ever seen... but yeah, I do rate Kewell.

        What a strange conclusion.

You can also say that he fulfilled his contract with Bolton and the only new contract they offered him was a worse one than he had.

I heard he was on a really big whack at Bolton - something silly like 70K a week - so he was always going to have to move if he didn't want to take a huge pay cut.

Arsenal get critised a lot of have a player as young as Szczezny in goal, I'm not sure if the knives will be out of Ferguson in the same way.

Another flop ? You mean Barthez probably, that's an easy wagon to jump on. There was NOBODY in the league with his ability.

He kept us in so many games, I can remember specifically in the CL away in Greece. Fergie said after it he'd proven he 'was the best goalkeeper in the world'

In a very short space of times he lost his mind (off the field too apparently) and was making gaffes regularly.
