Alex Ferguson has this morning confirmed a number of players that will see action in Sunday’s encounter with Blackpool. The United boss countered claims that he will be fielding a second-string starting XI by using today’s press conference to list those who will play their part…

“On Sunday we’ll do our fairest to make sure there’s no criticism of the club. There are players who need a game anyway. Darren Fletcher, Paul Scholes and Anderson will all play. Berbatov, Evra, van der Sar as well. They’ll all play – that’s certain.”

The news offers Fantasy Managers reassurance of a start for Berbatov – a factor that will surely boost further acquisitions of the Bulgarian striker over the next 48-hours. Berbatov would seem likely to line up in attack, perhaps with Michael Owen, although with Anderson also confirmed as a starter, he could be pushed forward in support of the attack in a 4-5-1 with Fletcher and Scholes patrolling in front of the back four. All three midfielders will now come into the mix for final day Fantasy transfers.

A 4-3-3 is also a distinct possibility – that would bring Owen and perhaps even Nani into the equation – although with Ferguson failing to name Nani today, there is clearly some doubt over his prospects of earning a start. Similarly, with no mention of Wayne Rooney, he looks set to miss out, despite his eagerness to play a part against the seasiders…

“It’s down to the manager to pick what team he wants to play in the two matches…But I’m sure all the players want to play. You play football to play in these games and I hope I can play on Sunday. You want to keep ticking over.”

The selection of Patrice Evra is significant – he sat on the bench at Blackburn with a knock and is clearly being given pitch-time on Sunday to prove his fitness ahead of the Champions League final. His inclusion now casts doubt on United’s back four selection. While Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans look favourites to start in the centre, the right-back role appears to be up for grabs. Fabio, Rafael and John O’Shea would appear to be in the reckoning, although both O’Shea and Rafael are themselves recovering from recent injuries and may well miss out.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

guys huge gameweek for me this weekend, equal with leader in mini-league, so need to win this one 🙂

do odem and silva have knocks going into this weekend? because silva came off, and i've heard stuff about odem.

i'm thinking odem -> tevez and silva -> n'zog, what do you think?

    RVP, Tevez, Berbatov looks fearsome

    Odem out, Tevez in.

I'm not sure about the Tevez one. Can anyone recommend a decent midfielder maybe? Scholes, N'Zogbia?

Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher is facing Champions League heartbreak for the second time in three years.

The midfielder is losing his battle to start against Barcelona in next week’s Wembley final after seeing the end of his season decimated by a virus.

Dont wish to rain on anyones parade, but to be technically correct he actually says they'll play according to the article. Doesnt mention wether they'll start. Personally I think Berbs will indeed start, just thought i should point it out. I mean its not like SAF has a history of being a bit tricksy or anything......

Really? Berbatov doesn't play well on his own upfront, so it will be him and someone else. Fergie also says that Fletcher, Scholes and Anderson will all play. How do those three fit into a midfield four?

Presumably any pitch time would be a bonus for him at this stage, but I suppose you're right about that not being his role against barca (though I can't see him starting at Wembley).

I'd like to think so but, the fact that Ferguson didn't name Nani seems odd - if he wanted to stave off the flack for fielding a weakened side, you'd have thought he would have listed Nani to help his cause.

Doesn't really matter if he plays well in a game we don't need to win. I suppose as Fletcher is lacking fitness he could be the only one of those mentioned that starts on the bench.

I still think they'll all start in some kind of variant of 4-5-1.

          Maybe a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1, maybe even a 4-3-1-2.

Anderson could be worth the punt, especially when you consider the Schalke game where Anderson was the guy breaking from the midfield for tap ins.

I may also pick him over N'Zogbia, which is quite risky considering N'Zogbia's form over Anderson, but usually Stoke are pretty solid at home.

Something I found interesting, none of the six players mentioned started against Blackburn.

Either he only mentioned them because they didn't start, and will be changes to the line-up. Or, it gives an indication that SAF doesn't feel the need to play the players who started that game, and that he'd rather rest them and play players who haven't started in a while, and could do with some game time.

Indeed. If he plays the likes of Nani as well as those six, the side will be far too good!

Anyone who is fully match fit at the moment, and will likely have a role to play in the CL final, won't play IMO. Nani is one of those players.

Yep that would be perfect! I think Wigan are most likely to get a result looking at the teams below us.

What are the chances of the following starting:

    Luiz
    Coleman
    Huth
    Smalling
    Kolorov

Not sure which three to start with...any ideas pleaseeeeeeee?

    Tempted to bring in Hangeland..

      Luiz - doubtful
      Coleman - possibly
      Huth - no
      Smalling - yes
      Lolarov - maybe

I wouldn't bring in Hangeland as they play Arse. I'd rather bring in an attacking player myself.

Yep, watson definitely took em, even with Nzog and Rod both on the pitch.

Looking at Lawro's picks this morning, and while I don't usually put a whole lot of weight in them, he sees Fulham beating Arsenal on Sunday, as do I to be honest, with this in mind, and I know RVP is Mr Consistant, does anyone else feel like Arsenal will struggle and maybe RVP is another candidate for the drop in fantasy terms?

yeah I agree JU. Arsenal are a miserable bunch atm and missing their 2 most creative players and fulham, pool result aside, have been in great form. Last day of the season and nothing to be won plus getting 3rd isn't really that big an incentive as the arsenal reserves can get through qualifying.

If I had a lead to chase and my rival also had him, I would take a punt and get rid for Berb/Tevez and hope for the best.

Arsenal as a team haven't been good, but RVP has scored consistently. . . lose or not.

Yup. I wonder who will be captain. I suppose we could read into the fact if it's VDS then Scholes might be staying for another year, if it's Scholes (c) then he's off.

    Need to do either

    Silva or Malouda > Nzogbia

So that i have enough cash for

    Hernandez > Berbatov

    What do you think?

You gonna play him though? Surely Blackpool will score although i see your other choice is Foster so maybe best to go with VdS
