Alex Ferguson has this morning confirmed a number of players that will see action in Sunday’s encounter with Blackpool. The United boss countered claims that he will be fielding a second-string starting XI by using today’s press conference to list those who will play their part…

“On Sunday we’ll do our fairest to make sure there’s no criticism of the club. There are players who need a game anyway. Darren Fletcher, Paul Scholes and Anderson will all play. Berbatov, Evra, van der Sar as well. They’ll all play – that’s certain.”

The news offers Fantasy Managers reassurance of a start for Berbatov – a factor that will surely boost further acquisitions of the Bulgarian striker over the next 48-hours. Berbatov would seem likely to line up in attack, perhaps with Michael Owen, although with Anderson also confirmed as a starter, he could be pushed forward in support of the attack in a 4-5-1 with Fletcher and Scholes patrolling in front of the back four. All three midfielders will now come into the mix for final day Fantasy transfers.

A 4-3-3 is also a distinct possibility – that would bring Owen and perhaps even Nani into the equation – although with Ferguson failing to name Nani today, there is clearly some doubt over his prospects of earning a start. Similarly, with no mention of Wayne Rooney, he looks set to miss out, despite his eagerness to play a part against the seasiders…

“It’s down to the manager to pick what team he wants to play in the two matches…But I’m sure all the players want to play. You play football to play in these games and I hope I can play on Sunday. You want to keep ticking over.”

The selection of Patrice Evra is significant – he sat on the bench at Blackburn with a knock and is clearly being given pitch-time on Sunday to prove his fitness ahead of the Champions League final. His inclusion now casts doubt on United’s back four selection. While Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans look favourites to start in the centre, the right-back role appears to be up for grabs. Fabio, Rafael and John O’Shea would appear to be in the reckoning, although both O’Shea and Rafael are themselves recovering from recent injuries and may well miss out.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I don't think he will start for the reason he started last week and he probably isn't 100% who he is going to start for the final so will probably rest him.

Always a risk though, if he starts he could score big and their is still a chance he could score. I need to know whether Silva or VdV are going to play before deciding anything.

🙂 Kolorov is a terrible player, truly terrible

How can someone with the pace of a snail be in a top3 team defensive line? Defending against fast wingers. He gets ripped to pieces every game I've seen him play

Do you think Mancini says to him before the game: 'you've scored 1 long range effort all season - just keep shooting on sight from 30 yards'

Regarding the Nani speculation, as it stands, he will be sitting on the bench for the Champions League final, Park and Valencia will get the call over him with perhaps Giggs/Carrick and maybe Fletcher or Anderson playing if Fergie goes with a 4-5-1.

United will either play a 4-4-2 (which they have been playing in UCL) or a 4-5-1 to overload the midfield, I don't Nani will start in either formation. I think that he will be played at the weekend and told to go out and play for his position, he needs to do something special to convince Fergie, and I personally think he will be given his opportunity. Absolutely no point having a player rested for a major final, where his form isn't up to scratch, I am seriously considering him in for Malouda for a hit.

Odemwingie > Berbatov (c) is tempting

    Rest of team:
    Foster / Begovic
    Walker, RJohnson, Huth, Luiz, Kolarov
    Lampard, Kuyt, Yaya, VDV, Adam
    RVP, Sturridge, Odem

I don't think he will start to be honest. Not exactly a must-win for Spurs and I can see Harry starting Defoe instead to keep him happy and put him in the shop window for a possible move away. Pienaar did well when he came on last week and VDV has a summer tour with Holland in a few weeks.

Apart from the Arsenal game, VDV has been pretty poor in recent weeks. Even if he does play, there's a risk of him not finishing the game. NZogbia is literally aflame at the moment, playing for a team fighting for their lives, and with himself also in the shop window it's a decent risk even for a hit.

      Either that or go Modric.

the FA surely have to revisit the law. It was vaguely defendable when there was no 25 player rule...but with a squad of 25 most will play at some point.

If Fergie does play Berb, Scholes, Anderson, and the FA says that's weak then there is something seriously wrong with the world.

What are the odds of Tevez starting, now that he's asked for an official exit? Think that'll affect his starting place?

Last time he was 'leaving' Mancini said something along the lines of 'Tevez is fit, why would you not play a fit Tevez'?

I'm sorry, but 'fit' isn't really a word i would relate to him 😉

Glad I held off, these last few tweets have left me thinking.

    Mignolet (Foster)
    Fabio Luiz Dawson (Jones Cahill)
    VdV Kuyt Lampard O'Hara (Yaya)
    Rooney Odemwingie RVP

Plan was Yaya > NZogs, Rooney > Tevez.

Although I am thinking if I got rid of Rooney I'm seriously lacking in Utd coverage. So maybe Yaya > NZogs, RVP > Tevez or something. Then bench either VdV or Odem

Rooney to Berbs seems the obvious move.

I was meant to type that too, 8pointer with

        RVP > Tevz
        Yaya > NZog
        Roo > Berb

Maybe just 2 and 3. Just would seriously hate myself if Rooney outscored Berb.

I'm thinking if I bring in Berb I wouldn't do the Tevez change...

So it would be Yaya > Nzog, Roo > Berb with RVP still in the team.

May as well do all 3 actually. What have I got to lose now, won the mini league just going for overall position. Worth a punt.

Yup, it not only means pain free Champions League football, it also means more cash for finishing a place higher

I'd like to see City finish fourth just in the hope that we see them teamed up with Bayern or the likes.

I don't necessarily want City to do bad but I'd just like to watch a big qualifying game.

So no one is going for my top tip?

Mujangi Bia of Wolves (C). You won't regret it. He's played 12 minutres this season and raked in 4pts.

    That means, if he plays a full 90 minutes: 4pts x 7.5 = 30 pts.

    An OBVIOUS move.

Having nearly finished my first season playing this game and not making any hits, I just don't know what to do with VDV.

Bring in Z'Nogbia for a hit?

    *starts sweating* 😉

    Freidel (Foster)
    Distin, Hughes, Bardsley
    Lampard, O’Hara, Larsson, Adam, VDV
RVP (C), Berbs (in for Torres).
