The Fantasy Football Scout Cup IV concludes tomorrow as the Premier League season draws to a close. Nine weeks of hard work (and considerable good fortune) has left us with two Fantasy Managers battling it out for the top prize of a £150 Amazon gift voucher (and a consolation prize of a £75 voucher). So let’s meet our finalists…
Finalist #1 – Ninja_Fit_Saints
We’ve never had a fixture at such a late stage be decided on overall rank, but that’s exactly what happened when Ninja_Fit_Saints met redsareback in the Semi-Finals. Both sides finished tied on 63 points each, with Ninja_Fit_Saints’ rank of 1,377th in the world eventually eliminating his opponent. Demba Ba was his star performer, as Charles N’Zogbia scored well for both.
A sequence of 16 straight green arrows has seen Ninja_Fit_Saints storm up to his lofty ranking from a humble 319,527th overall going into Gameweek 22. The latter part of that sequence has coincided with this incredible run in the FFS Cup IV.
He stormed into the first round after finishing 7th in the qualifying round of over 1600 entrants. Continuing his strong start he dismissed bigfootisblurry and TheFlyingDutchman with ease, before coming up against his first real test in round three against maximo78. That was one of two one-point victories in the space of three rounds, with the second against Clogger in the round of 16. Sandwiched between them was a drubbing of Bluevikings and finally, before his Semi-Final showdown with redsareback was win over elana_s in the Quarters.
Finalist #2 – Biscanators
Unlike Ninja_Fit_Saints, Biscanators eased into the Grand Final last week, courtesy of a 62 – 50 win over Mr. Hat. Sitting 2,286th in the world, Biscanators goes into the Final as an underdog, albeit a very slight one.
He too has been on brilliant green arrow streak, notching 11 on-the-trot. Not quite as astronomical a rise as his opponent, but he’s climbed up from 55,652nd in that time period.
His qualifying round performance was nowhere near as convincing as Ninja_Fit_Saints’ though, finishing 510th and barely making the first round. There was nothing close about his first round fixture however, smashing radiolazy by almost doubling his score. He also eased past beehind the magic in round three and joeforristal in the fourth. He had three narrow wins on his way to the Final, beating daniel.mf by five points in the Quarters and edging JWF and M by identical 55 – 53 scores in the second and sixth rounds respectively.
It promises to be an open Grand Final, with only six players (Ben Foster, David Luiz, Roger Johnson, Leighton Baines, Frank Lampard and Robin van Persie) cancelling each other out. With the final day of the season a lottery as it is, it really could go either way.
There’s also the small matter of the third place play-off between the beaten Semi-Finalists, redsareback and Mr. Hat. There’s only pride at stake, but a podium finish offers plenty of incentive to end the season on a high.
I’m sure you’ll all join me in congratulating both our finalists on reaching this stage, and wish them the best of luck in the Grand Final tomorrow. I’ll bring you news of the outcome next week.
