Manchester United are on the brink of concluding a deal for Ashley Young according to multiple reports today.

Various sources are stating that Young has agreed terms and has already undergone a medical before departing for his holiday. The move is expected to be completed on his return.

A fee of around £16 million is being quoted in today’s stories – that would represent a very decent deal on United’s part if that proves to be the case.

Young has been a consistent performer in Villa colours since his arrival from Watford in 2007. In Fantasy terms we’ve had a love/hate relationship with the midfielder – a return of 7 goals and 11 assists did at times justify his inclusion in our squads and reflected the kind of levels he’s achieved in previous seasons. Indeed, Young’s price has remained at 8.5 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game for the last three years, having returned 5 goals and 11 assists in 2009/10 and 7 goals and 9 assists in the season before that.

While this move is yet to be confirmed, Fantasy Managers will already be contemplating the impact of Young’s arrival at Old Trafford. We will shortly publish a full Scout Report to assess his potential in full. However, the instant reaction to this transfer involves the effect his departure would have on the Villa squad.

Marc Albrighton, who emerged as a true budget prospect early on last season, would surely be expected to hold down regular starts on the departure of Young. Both Stewart Downing and Darren Bent would also likely benefit from increased involvement at set-pieces and spot-kicks. Having earned a handsome 27 FPL Bonus Points last term, Young’s supplementary points also seem set to be redistributed amongst Villa’s other key players.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Speaking of loyalty. I bring P.Jones to Arsenal, i make him captain after letting Fabregas fulfill his dream of moving to Barca after winning the quadruple with Arsenal. And this is how he re pays me. His ass is getting sold asap! #FM11

I could see Fergie trying out Jones alongside Rio against some bottom half sides. Depends which Rooney stars the season hopefully its the same one that finished last season.

I reckon it will be Jones with Vidic if anything. Sir Alex thinks Jones is the eventual replacement for Rio.

Eh? Can you not see the Smalling similarities with Rio?

Jones looks like he has the qualities of Vidic. Future United captain me thinks.

This is more what I was thinking too. Trying to second guess Fergie seems like a waste of time for all we know he could see Jones as a holding midfielder or something!

Hmmm he doesn't actually say that thought does he, it's paper headline making. I think he's saying he wants to be a success at Utd like Ferdinand.

Watching their defending style it's easy to see Smalling like Rio and Jones like Vidic.

We'll just have to wait but with United having a lot of options at CB Fergie might try a few pairings. We'll just have to wait a few games to see if we can figure out what he wants to do.

Possibly United will easily pass the rules. I wouldn't say its a big concern as the rules are going to be a little more relaxed for the first few years. They also don't come into play until 2012/13.

    U21

How does this squad look for the opener?

    Sommer, [Guschenko]

    Smalling, Jonsson, [Zanka, Polyakov, Gayduchik]

Erikson, Sigurdsson (C), Mata, Shaqiri, Rodwell

    Ben Khalifa, Yarmalenko, Sigthorsson

Counting on big things from Iceland on day one.
Will Rodwell be a first teamer for England though? That's my only concern atm.

Which striker would you go for?
I can't afford to upgrade the first two to anyone significantly better and I like Sigthorsson - scored a bucket load in the Dutch league and has Belarus on opening day.

Could do smalling -> ratikitsky sp. and Sig -> Sturridge but not sure how much of an upgrade that would be with DS having Spain on opening day.

A Pool defender would be a good idea, and you have nothing from Man City. Like the idea of Walcott, bt RVP is surely going to be enough from Arsenal, suspect mine will be similar, but needs more in mdfield, at least Silva.

Horrid isn't it! I think a top bracket keeper might be a good tactic this year with so much uncertainty elsewhere.

Malky McKay is the name strongly going around for Cardiff's new manager. Shame for Watford though if it happens, to lose their manager, league's top scorer (Graham) and one of the best Championship players of the season (Buckley) within a few weeks of the end of the season after they looked like they'd have a pretty good shout for next season.

Nope not really. Fresh start. We knew that Bothroyd was going, and Chopra is a fat and uninterested man. 2010-11 Chopra was not the same as 2009-10 Chopra (he's also on about 20k a week, which is insane for a benchwarmer). Bellamy apparently may be back as well, which would be very nice- but even if he's not, things need freshening up.

I suppose with a new manager needing to choose [his own] new strikeforce is actually the perfect equation - rather than upsetting the old bods he can build the team up to as he so desires.

There's always Big Jon Parkin anyway.

Part of me liked the idea of having Parkin and Chopra up front, the longest combined waistline of any strike partnership since whoever played alongside Micky Quinn. But yeah, that's what I mean. Whatever that saying is that includes the words 'new broom' is surely applicable.

If you watch 10 episodes of Family Guy, all you're missing from then on, is the one or two good bits in every other episode.

And is it really worth watching a repeat of every other show in which:
A monkey is in the closet
        Stewie plots to kill Lois
        Brian has to advise Peter
Peter "stands up for something he believes in"
        Meg is ugly
"Hey do you remember that time [improbable event featuring washed up US celebrity]" x20

Just for those one or two good bits?

Blue Harvest was the peak I think (so the very beginning of season 6). After that good episodes became less frequent. The episode where Brian eats Stewie's poo was when it became appparent that the show was in decline, rather than just stuttering.

Depends on who they replace them with. For what it's worth, i think Nasri will stay and they'll buy Hazard. Line up:

Sahko looks more likely to move to Arsenal than Samba I think. Samba isn't very quick and quite old. He would be a very un-Wenger-like signing, whereas Sahko would be right up his street.

I wonder how likely it is that Vermaelen could be used at left-back next season. He's never played there for Arsenal, but is quick, intelligent and quite attack-minded. That may allow Arsenal to add more height to the defence without putting either Djourou or Koscielny out in the cold.

Ah. I'm glad you're back - may I ask you what is bound to be an imbecilic maths/spreadsheet question? 🙂

OK Soop - thanks. I am trying to develop a rating system for each team, home and away, based on their league position, their win-draw-lose ratio and their goal difference. At the moment I have a rather complicated formula, but it seems to be working ... have you any suggestions? 🙂

What do you want to do, simplify the formula? Or modify your idea?

Let's continue the conversation on the next page

            It looks something like this:

            =((1000-(LS Arsenal*19))*(1+(G4*3/1900))*(1+(H4/1900)))*(1+(E4/((E4+HOME LS Arsenal)*100)))
