The final part of our fixture analysis guide examines the remaining eleven teams who are set to represent the budget end of the player market. Favourable runs of fixtures will be vital to their potential of Fantasy profit and our Members guide looks to isolate these gameweek windows, ultimately offering recommendations on when and how to invest in the low-mid-price market. …

good. I had a really chilled out weekend. I drank loads on Saturday and forgot to eat, so I was pretty wasted when Donna took me out for cocktails, then Wagamama. The guy asked me how my food was, and I said "this is without a doubt the finest chicken katsu I have ever recieved. Extend my compliments to the chef."

At least I gave a generous tip.

I've made the mistake of drinking for a whole day without eating. I certainly gave my compliments to the train toilet on the way home.

Sometimes it's just that rice that does it for me. The really glutinous stuff. Crap, now I'm hungry too ðŸ™

          How was everyone elses weekend?

My best friend came down for London, and we managed to find a bar with a (kind of) roof terrace that we had to ourselves for hours. Superb.

Yeah it's weird, because it was lower than the road we walked in off, but because it's on a massive steep hill, you're looking out across the roofs of buildings the other way.

Erm..... why are Newcastle bidding for Darren Gibson? He's pretty crap. About the same level (but older) as Guthrie who we are trying to sell.
Weird. And £6m ish is quite a lot relatively speaking (Cabaye was £4.5 ish), seems like a waste of cash on a pretty average - poor player.

Steak hammers are now more commonly manufactured using a more rigid material such as wood. This has been the case since food rationing in the first World War, when steak hammers were considered a waste of meat.

I think Spurs fixtures are pretty tough and there was talk of VDV maybe being a forward in the games next year. Kuyt - I never had him in my team last year when he was scoring big, but gerrard will be back taking him off pens and liverpool will play with Carroll and Suarez up top so he wont be an appealing OOP

Spurs have horrible opening fixtures and most going for Liverpool coverage are probably going for Suarez, so there's no need for Kuyt.

Nice little rotation strategy for the defence here:

    Reina, Howard
Baines, Best Liverpool Defender, Steven Taylor, Sunderland, Chelsea

Costs a few bob (aprx 37m from last seasons prices if you get the most expensive Liverpool, Sunderland and Chelsea defender). But gives a really strong doubled up defence for all fixtures and rotates well. A cheaper option which rotates slightly better is replacing the Chelsea defender with Hangeland from Fulham.

Example team using last seasons prices:

    Howard, Reina
    Baines, G.Johnson, S.Taylor, Onuoha, A.Cole
Downing, Ben Arfa, N'Zogbia, Sessegnon, VDV
    RVP, Torres, Ba

    3.8m in bank.

Hmmmm, too much there in the defence and keepers imo.

If you're buying someone like Reina then he should be played practically every game I think. Similarly with Johnson, and more so Baines. You never know when he'll pop up with an assist/goal. Interesting idea though.

Well I could change the expensive defender slot (currently shown as A.Cole) to being a good bet from the City defence.
Not sure of exact players yet, I just wanted to give an impression that despite investment in defence a strong forward line is still possible.

I don't like it, you just can't rotate expensive defenders and keepers like that. Based on best guess pricing, I get you coming in at 4.5 m over too! I like your attackers though.

At the mo' I'm looking at a defence of:

      AVL, QPR
      Kompany, Terry, WIG, WBA, WOL

Clearly the 3 W's are a terrible idea, but the fixtures of all 5 mesh really well.

Well to get over the price issue I deliberately chose the most expensive defenders from Liverpool, Chelsea, Sunderland - could always go for a better value one from each to balance the books.
Last season I started with a decent defender and the rest cheapies from lower half teams - cant believe how much it cost me in terms of points, all the 6's from cleanies really added up.
This time I'm going to do the different thing and try a strong defence.

14 mil-ish on two defenders IS spending big on defence for me! 😉

Agreed that the dirth of decent options in midfield leaves the way open to spend a bit more at the back.

Story? I haven't heard of anything.

Or do you mean about him in the starting line up?

His favoured position is CB and although he was great at RB last season, his long term future probably lies in the centre.

I would guess Glen would switch back to RB next season, with the new LB (please god let there be a new LB) obviously on the left.

-Glen-Carra-Agger-LB would be what I would of thought for the season ahead.

But Kelly never actually lost his first team place at RB, so he could be given a chance there in august.

He did play every minute of last season, and improved alot under Kenny, but Agger is a far better player. If fit (which is a big if) I would of thought that he would be starting.

A player who has bought in a steady stream of points then suffers injury for a significant period of the season, is this reflected in next seasons opening price? (lower).

Have any precedents been set about which end of the season a player is injured affecting their opening price the following season? Example RVP (early last season) & Kelly (end of last season)?

Do any discernible logical patterns exist whatsoever? Or do FLP Towers just fudge it as they go along???

Apologies that's all sloppily written but I've got a hangover.

Re: Hernandez won't feature much in August, i'm not so sure. He's got a month off now until the 25th July, that gives him 3 weeks to get fit for the start of the season. Yeah, he might start as sub, but he doesn't strike me as the sort of character to let it all hang out for the next 4 weeks anyway. Hernandez, RvP, Suarez forward line?

I doubt SAF will drop him after 20 goals in his debut season. What does worry me though is starting him away at the top teams last season didn't work, so he might get dropped for an extra midfielder in those ties. At OT - who knows.

what are peoples opinions on the defence for the up coming season?
i've figured out my gk combo (AVL/STK) roatate well all season and barring injuries it would be one area where i wouldn't need to waste transfers.
Baines is obviously the 1st pick after last season but i'm not sure whether i should go with low-mid pirices for the rest or a mixture of decent and cheap options.

Last season my defence was horrid all season and i lost so many points in transfers trying to sort it. This year i'm in a money league so i mean business!

I know it is early yet but...What are people's plans for Chelsea attacking coverage this year? Particularly needed as they have another good start to the season fixtures wise. I think this is a difficult one compared to other teams.

Torres - fingers burnt too many times before?
Drogba / any other striker they have or buy: how often will they play?
Lampard - the obvious choice (?) but always seems overpriced in FPL and you have to structure the rest of your team around getting him in
Malouda - poor 2nd half of the season and will he play regularly?
    Anyone else?

I realise you are partly tongue-in-cheek but I am not overly convinced with Modric for FF wherever he ends up. A bit too deep lying, a bit too "assist the assist" type player and a bit too reliant on bonus points. Obviously depends how expensive he is. I think most people only saw him as an option when VDV went off the boil last year.

Maybe, although none (bar Samba who's likely off) offer any attacking threat. Olsson will probably be a midfielder again next season. Other options are Givet, Nelsen or Salgado. Not much to choose from there unless we buy someone. Possible we could end up with one of the Birmingham lot, maybe Ridgewell?

If Mata joins Arsenal, surely he wont cost 10.0 in the fantasy game to start off like he did in the U21s?

The two games (many ifs anyway) would have preciesly no relevance to each other. Whole different kettle of fish.

Wasn't Sturridge something like £8m? He's not going to be that either, for example.

I honestly don't have the footie knowledge to discuss these matters, I'm still a newb, but I am really interested in the developments. Would he get straight into the Barca starting 11 if he did join?

This Fabs news are making me wanna puke really. If Barsa wants him let them pay, they want him but for no money. Even Henderson is 20 m. And for Cesc let him be my guest he is gonna be second most expensive sub after Kaka. We all know what happened with Flamini, Hleb, Adebayor and even Henry when they left Arsenal. U can not understand this kids anymore. I believe Cesc had a bad season on purpose in order his price to be lower.

If I was Arsenal fan I would want him to leave, nobody is irreplaceable, Man utd are again champions and they sold CR7 and they were so reliant on him. Screw Cesc let him go and be substitute. Be my guest Cesc.

P.S. He'll be on the bench when he won't be injured....

There is some point of time when the money is irrelevant. What can u buy with 70 m that u can't buy for 55m?

Remember the Ade statement that now he is not interested in money and went to play for Real for 1m? And imagine if he stayed in Arsenal?

Even if Xavi doesn't leave Fabregas will gradually be phased in. Plus Barca play loads of football, he'll still get plenty of minutes next season and all it takes is an injury to make him a first XI player again

Yeah like he had minutes for Spain. He must understand if he stayed in Barsa he could be some average player loaned in Valladolid in example. Arsen made him IMO. Look Krkic he is leaving Barsa.

Yes, I just think you cant say Fabregas would have failed if he were still at Barcelona.

Its hard to compare different player in different environments.

Besides Fabregas is going home. His loyalty to that region outweighs Arsenal.

Whats more I think it may be good for both parties in longterm if he goes.

Others will step up and he tended to slow their play a tad too much last year.

Bojan and Geovani were both vastly overhyped by Barcelona but when it comes to that club people will swallow anything. I rember in 2007 they came to Scotland pre season and the papers were full of how these two were going to be better than Messi and Ronaldinho because Barcelona said they would be. Geovani was booted shortly after and has spent much of the time since being ignored by managers such as Roy Keane and 'arry. They rate Bojan so highly they hardly played him and then sold him to Roma.
Barcelona were also praised for spending pre-season in a place like Scotland and not going on a big bucks tour of the States or the Far East like " moneybags Chelsea or Real Madrid". What nobody seemed to know or bother to find out was that as soon as Barcelona had completed their glorified training sessions against Dundee Utd and Hearts they were off on a tour of China and Japan.
The hype, self adulation and blind praise of Barcelona never ceases to amaze me.

Henderson, is a Brit, as real European negotiations go, these players are disregarded when factoring negotiation precedent, euro epl player-to-european team will be factored only.

Might I just say that the signing people should really have their eyes on is the Ricardo Alvarez signing. This will be the impact player that will force Barca's hand to pay what Arsenal asks or risk leaving Arsenal with a ridiculous team. Figure it out people Mata and Ricardo Alvarez speak Spanish, not French, Arsene is finally getting the picture on how to keep Spanish speaking players. This and the Mata signing should worry La Liga/Champions League qualifiers.

Unless Maurizio is just playing the classic Italian lament rope-a-dope:

              http://www.goal.com/en/news/11/transfer-zone/2011/06/24/2546181/ricardo-alvarez-has-already-signed-for-arsenal-palermo-president-

Somehow this clown at Palermo thought they had a chance at Alvarez. He's been on my radar for a minute, and I've always said they needed more Argentinian signings, they tend to not get caught up in the 'walk it in the goal' tendencies that the Gunner's have been plagued with currently.

not at all, just refuse to believe any professional athlete who isn't match fixing is purposely trying to have a bad season?????

and if fabregas wants to go good on him. 8 years he's been at arsenal, the look on his face everytime he gets injured shows what it means to him, he's devastated he can't help the team
