Sunderland have today completed the signing of Wes Brown from Manchester United on a four-year deal. The fee, though undisclosed, is thought to be in the region of £1m.
The defender’s arrival on Wearside continues Steve Bruce’s busy start to the summer transfer window, with Brown the fifth player to join up at the club already this close season, following Connor Wickham, Craig Gardner, Seb Larsson and Keiren Westwood.
Bruce’s dealings with his old side are far from over, though, with bids for both John O’Shea and Darron Gibson also looking likely to be successful. O’Shea, in particular, is reportedly on the verge of completing a move to the Stadium of Light, with the Irishman currently undergoing a medical at the club.
The Brown transfer will give Bruce more experience at the back and help address a defensive record that saw the side pick up just two clean sheets in their last sixteen Premier League matches last term, with the 31 year old’s versatility offering the Black Cats options at both centre-half and right-back.
Meanwhile, a full Scout Report on Wes Brown and his likely Sunderland prospects will follow.
