QPR have this afternoon announced that Adel Taarabt will not be leaving the club this summer.

In an official statement posted “on behalf of majority shareholders Bernie Ecclestone and Flavio Briatoreâ€, Rangers announced that Taarabt will not be sold, despite the club receiving bids for his services…

“We rebuffed all approaches and indeed, we are keen to build for the future in the Barclays Premier League, and not sell one of our prized assets… Taarabt is fully committed to the Club and is looking forward to proving his undoubted star quality for QPR in the Barclays Premier League.â€

This will come as a major relief for all connected to the club but is also hugely significant news for Fantasy Managers.

Taarabt has long been earmarked as QPR’s key Fantasy asset going into the season. Our recent Scout Report article goes into depth on his potential this term – soak that up for the full details. In a nutshell however, Taarabt arrives in the top flight off the back of a season where he claimed 19 goals and 16 assists in his 43 starts. His importance the QPR’s survival chances is undoubted – his potential for Fantasy returns unquestionable.

Snuggled in the mid-price bracket (6.5 in the Fantasy Premier League) across the various games, this news will restore confidence amongst Fantasy Managers and surely see Taarabt arrive in many squads prior to Gameweek one. The fact that QPR are also blessed with a kind baptism back in the Premier League in terms of early opponents will only compound the Moroccan’s popularity.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

He has the tools. Does he have the temperament? That's the only thing that might prevent hitting double figures in the G & A columns.

Too much risk for the price imo. Can get proven players like duff, albrighton, sessegnon for the same price. Got a feeling he won't cope anyway, will gladly hop on the bandwagon if he proves me wrong.

Home to Bolton and away to Everton should be enough to give an indication I think I am going to do that same thing. Hold fire and hope he shows he can take the step up but waits until GW3/4 to start scoring!!!

Ok...while I'm about. Dempsey is a risk given Jol is looking for out and out wingers. We're still not sure where Dempsey will fit in the XI. Bothroyd vs Taarabt now looks one sided - I'd favour Holt here. Both Wilkinson and Hall will struggle to see action - you can find 4.0 defenders that will play pretty easily - Simpson at Newcastle, Briggs at Fulham (possibly).

just a reminder, dempsey was hitting big scores when he was playing as a striker, with dembele known to be a bad finisher but a good provider.
rememeber that now johnson and zamora are fit, along with dembele.
is he worth the price tag? not until he's back to oop imo

They're a two man team (Taarabt and Bothroyd). They'll still really precariously positioned with him, but without him I'd have had them down as doomed.

The "support" Warnock/the club has been given has been fairly ludicrous so far.

Good side. I think the Briggs for Fulham potential is interesting as a way of freeing up cash by trading in Hangeland. If Riise can hold down the left flank then Briggs should start the season at 4.0 - a good option for Orr in your lineup.

You can argue around much of the lineup (although the strikeforce is very strong). Only slight weakness could be the lack of promoted players who could explode in popularity should they settle - Taarabt, Holt, Hoolahan and Sinclair - personally I'm looking to back a couple of these in expectation of an impact and immediate price rise. Plenty will argue against that though - it;'s also a risk.

One constant I've noticed is the one's that make the step up like Adam & Carroll did have the right mentality, maturity, work ethic, leadership etc. Seems as important as the ability and taarabt doesn't have it. How's he going to cope when qpr's getting dominated, he's barely getting a touch, no support going fwd. My guess is he'll drop his head and sulk rather than cowboy up and work his ass off.
My pick from the promoted players is holt.

Give over! Andy Carroll is one of the least mature players ever to have gone into the premier league. He did well because he's an absolute beast and scared the life out of defender.

His mentality, work ethic and maturity are all weaknesses the Dalglish has been working hard to help him improve, most notably by taking him to see Take That.

Disagree. Off the pitch yeah he's a Pratt and needs to grow up. On the pitch for Newcastle he lead by example, worked hard and didn't have tickets on himself. I think your selling short his mental strength by saying he had such success purely because he's big and strong.

For instance, drop Wilshere to Tiote, swing zogs to Silva.

it's basically can he oust riise and salcido, i know they're trying to sell salcido now, so maybe just riise. it's very unlikely riise will be playing left mid if that's what people are thinking. when you have zamora, dembele and andy johnson fighting for a couple of spots up front it's unlikely dempsey will be up front so then you'll have him and simon davies fighting for a left wing/mid spot, in dempsey's case surely ahead of riise.
youngsters like briggs often get extended runs in pre-season as it's the best time to blood them with consistent games, it doesn't always mean they'll stay there once the real thing kicks off. think of coleman last season, he would have been right back for the season if so

I have a question regarding Taarabt: From the highlights etc, he seems to be more of a gifted skill player, rather than a guy who runs the game. Part of the reason that Adam did well was because he literally ran the show for BLP. That meant he often got BPs even on the losing side. Is Taarabt like that, or is he more of a show-boater who could boom or bust?

Taarabt was absolutely instrumental in almost all of QPR's games last season, he plays an attacking role, behind the striker(s). Possibly not AS active as Adam, but still, vital to QPR's play.

I'm not saying he's as good, god he's no way near, but he's got that skill level to put defences to shame when he's on his mark. He's a one man band of game-changery.

Biggest problem is if/when he gets marked out of a game or frustrated he just becomes a stinking pile.

I'd say he has the potential to be much better than Adam, actually. Predominance of Adam's points came from set-pieces and bonus, Taarabt will have the chance to score just as many set-pieces and a likely dip in bonus (I imagine) will be made up for by more open play goals/assists. If he performs to his potential.

can get better than nzogbia for 7.5 million (and im a villa fan).
unsure about graham also...think he'll be a flop to be honest
      wouldn't pick wilshere either.
defence is top drawer...would maybe switch samba for a 4 million defender to free up cash if u plan on plying just 3 at the back

Villa are two much of an unknown to invest in them heavily, having sold their 2 most creative players. Seen many an RMT with 3 Villa players, Given is enough for me for now.

I have bent, but i'll only keep him if N'Zogbia joins villa. With Downing and Young leaving, that's a lot of creative threat gone out the door. Where will the opportunities come from if he doesn't sign the Zog? Albrighton perhaps, but he's not exactly going to carry the midfield.

Villa will struggle for goals under mcleish if he doesn't invest in some creative midfield talent - and couple that with his natural tendancy to play defensive, boring football, i fear for those brummies.

albrighton's not a gamble, guaranteed to play every minute, plus villa have easy games.he's going to be one of villa's main creative outlets, if not the only outlet.

taarbt + sinclair ... i'll play play whoevere is at home. again both are main creative outlets, plus take penos. for 11 games they have a great stretch of decent fixtures between them.

sessegnon will play behind gyan. will be involved in goals, playing great pre-season and is getting praised by bruce.

malouda has very nice fixtures...is a little gamble whether or not he will be in starting line-up. (but he was also a gamble last year). i'll keep an eye on pre season, and if it looks like he wont start, im gonna work midfield around a bit to get in lamps

dzeko? he's being almost completely written off as he didn't hit the ground running last season. who's to say man city wont play this formation:

    -------------- de jong --- yaya toure -----------------
    ------------------- silva --------------------------
    -- balotelli -------------------------- aguero -----
    --------------------- dzeko ------------------------

not 100% on aguero in terms of how much he's played from a wide position or if he can but if it ever came to that being the side i'd reconsider an 8.5 dzeko

    Taarabt a player who's team-mates are told:
Don't pass to him at championship level.
A player who does not track back at championship level

This is in a team that's only major signing was k dyer.
He is also priced at 6.5 for that you can get albrigton who is tried and tested for one season.
Surely Taarabt will be marked out of it this years Ebanks Blake I think!

Most decent middies are possibly on the way out of the premier league, which makes me think that it's going to be much harder to find some 'set-and-forget' men in the middle. I always like to start off with a stronger midfield in the beginning of each season but I just can't see more than one sure thing at present

Gardner was released ...and then signed a new contract. Davies is okay, but will struggle for (fantasy potential) pitch time surely?

I imagine the midfield will be [Lee, Holden, Pratley, Petrov] when playing two up front, and then if they play 451 it's Davies/Muamba vying for a fairly defensive role allowing Holden to push on.

I like the idea of Taraabt, but I'm concerned about comparing him with Adam.

Adam was at the centre of a Blackpool team that scored 55 goals (that's more than 7th place Everton and as many as 5th place Spurs) and conceded 78. They were absolutely built to attack and Adam benefited from that. I don't think it's reasonable to expect Adam-like returns from any of the promoted players this year purely because it's so unusual for a player to be given such free reign in such an attacking team.
