Obtaining a better balance to your squad is fundamental to Fantasy success. It’s all very well selecting the likes of Frank Lampard and Robin Van Persie but if such luxury choices leave you rummaging around the bargain basement for players that offer little returns, it’s perhaps time for a re-think.

Since the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) 2011/12 game launched on late Thursday evening, we’ve been working away in the background and, after many hours of number-crunching, have produced our first set of Projected Points Returns for the upcoming season.

The factors taken into consideration with our Projections are varied- past performance, team tactics, possible rotation, the impact of new signings, susceptibility to injury, the new FPL Bonus Points system and even January 2012‘s African Cup of Nations come into the equation. As pre-season continues and the season unfolds, we will update these figures on a regular basis to offer an up-to-date reflection of each player’s potential going into Gameweek one. Our full list of “Projections” will be released on the Members Area early next week but, over a series of articles, we’re going to start to dissect them right here and now for our Members.

Our aim is to help shape your Fantasy squad for the upcoming campaign with a series of articles highlighting those players who come out favourably in one of the most vital categories- value per Fantasy pound. By identifying the likely returns on offer next season, we pick our way through the positions and look, in the main, at the low-to-mid-price candidates who will hopefully provide that all-important balance required for your Fantasy squad ahead of the start of next season.

We kick off by turning our attentions to the top ten goalkeepers…

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Sorry for the re post but I asked: RVP or Bent for the start? First 3 fixtures only.

There were 2 answers Bent and my reply was:
    Its new LIV mun
    vs ful BLA WOL

I think RVP could score in the first 2 easily and there could be a price rise. He is even captaincy option for GW1.

On the other hand Villa are tempting for every part of our team. Attack, mids, defense and goalie. I am scared by the defensive approach of there manager.

    Still Bent?

    Cheers,

I personally am taking Given, Collins and N'Zogbia from Villa, going without Bent and RVP, got Suarez and Rooney. There are a wealth of options in all positions from Villa, Arsenal, only RVP for me, maybe Gervinho. You are going to want RVP gw3 anyways. And Bent is known for his constinency, not his braces vs small teams, ok he gets them, but, its never a banker, i'd expect 2 goals from 3 in the opening fixtures.

I'm just being contradictive there, I'd go for Bent out the two, with a view to change to RVP for GW4 (SWA (H))

Yes DH u r right but Bent is a kind of player that repays the faith in him midterm from the fantasy players and not for short term punts. He scores whenever u don't expect from him.

i've seen him pop up in a few teams here, but personally, don't see the attraction in any of the midfielders below 5.5. id be looking at getting as much rotational value out of the 5 midfielders you pick. i wouldn't expect him to get many assists or goals

So by this report it looks like I'm sticking with Given and Ruddy. By the amount of clean sheets they are claiming per goalie here, it gives a pretty good idea on what returns you can expect from any defender playing on those teams as well. A goalie might get alot fo points from saves but that does nothing for a defender, so to me that looks liek you its easier to skimp on your goalie and put some xtra money into getting a top 4 teams defender or 2.

I think that's been the case for as long as I can remember. And looking at EA's index from last season, GKs seem unlikely to get many BPs. Guess we'll have to see how that goes though.

NIce one Champ. A few so far (5 or so), I've only been on here a couple of times advertising it, so they'll hopefully be many more by the start of the season.

I'd be surprised if anyone in the league hit those kind of heights again...

There's one chap I saw on fiso that has back to back top 100 finishes followed by top 1k last season. They're the only 3 seasons in his history 😮

So after days of tinkering this is what I think is a solid team :

    Given/Ruddy
    Kompany/Lescott/Bramble/Simpson/Orr
    Lampard/Taarabt/Sinclair/Barton/O’Hara
    RVP/Rooney/Holt

Lescott – Luiz in GW2 if he plays vs Stoke

There’s 6/7 penalty takers in there and 3 reliable captain options, I’m just hoping that the promoted players can live up to the hype. Also hoping citeh and liverpool dont run riot early on.

looks good. personally have doubts over holt, but i know im prob in a minority. just don't have much confidence in the older slower players making the jump up from the championship.

midfield is hard to fault.. personally id downgrade lamps for malouda - i'm pretty sure he'll make the 1st XI - and use the extra to upgrade one of your defenders, or ruddy so you have a rotation options for gk.

Yeah Holt is a gamble but he is on pens and has decent early fixtures. And at his price frees up money elsewhere.

With Lamps he is dear but is much more reliable than Malouda . I dont think I'd trust Malouda with the armband overall I think Lamps is worth the extra 1.5.

Little bit light in the mid, but I like it. It will be difficult to bench someone every week.

P.S. Pick one from Kompany and Lescott, unless u plan to play them for the first 10GW's or so.

Im planning on transfering Lescott to whoever is nailed on between Kompany and Alex. But I wouldnt mind doubling up on city defence either,I think they could get 6/7 clean sheets in the first 10 and Lescott is always a goal threat.

defence is a bit flakey. id downgrade one of rooney/bent/lamps/vdv to bulk it up a bit. you need points to come from the back consistently if you want to do well

      Jeez, where's the cash?

Def is a freakshow. Like the keepers & Kompany ... think you need at least one more 'reliable' def. 2 of your three defs could realistically get 0 points each week.

Perhaps downgrade Bent or one of your middies.

    Hello everybody,

I am french, 24, I joined your league, and I have a proposal for a team, tell me what you think please :

    Al Habsi

    Hughes Kompany Luiz Rafael

    Taraabt Silva Barton

    Rooney (C) Torres Rodallega

Bench : Given, Sessegnon, Ben arfa, Simpson

I have no arsenal back up but it is hard to find a point to take RVP for torres, and Arsenal have bad fixtures compared to Chelsea or Wigan

I think in picking Malouda, Adam, Nani... but they are to expensive so I think I will have in GW2 or 3 Odemwingie or Suarez, or Wilshere depending on Nasri/Fabregas...

    Thank you

i think ramsey is more likely to fill any gap left by nasri/fabregas, but thats just my opinion.

i wouldn't risk torres considering his current form.. better to have someone like bent or zamora, who are more likely to start and score goals (they have good fixtures).

id also look to play 3-4-3 and spend the money saved on a defender on your midfield/fowrads. attackers score more points

Hi and welcome to the site 🙂

I like your team, but there are concerns over Luiz and Rafael - we don't know if they are gauranteed to start.

Also many feel that Torres needs to prove he is "back" before spending on him. I'd agree. I personally don't like Rodallega, especially if N'Zogbia leaves Wigan.

Good bench, but Ben Arfa was injured the other day. I don't know how seriously though!

Torres seems a bit rich considering his form at end of last season and the fact that his starting every week is still in question.

Def looks good - but watch the news on Luiz and Rafael, if they'll be starting/rotated.

I think I'd 3-4-3 with that team > Hughes out for Sessegnon in.

Good start on a team, though. Welcome to FFS!

imo bent. i have no doubt that van persie (as long as he stays fit) and saurez will score points consistently over the season. whereas bent is now making do without young+downing and also dealing with a new, defensive manager.
