Chelsea find their feet and rack up the goals, with Frank Lampard -significantly playing on the right of the central midfield three- opening the scoring in a 4-0 romp.

New boy Darren Pratley stakes his claim for a mid-price starting berth in the Bolton midfield with his second goal in three games for Owen Coyle’s side. Victor Moses warms to the N’Zogbia wing role. Mario Balotelli enrages Roberto Mancini with an impudent back-heel when clean through on goal and is substituted straight away.

With just three weeks to go, we’re beginning to get some handy pointers with would-be first choice players now starting to earn more pitch time and formations perhaps resembling those on show on August 13.

Our pre-season guide has been fleshed out with all the latest results, with our team news notes now filling up with insight on form and lineup trends.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I'd have to say A) purely because I have no time for Walters whatsoever.

My current thinking is to pick a side that is good for at least the first 3 games... then in the Int break play Wild Card.

But try and pick a side which is good for 5-6 games on the off chance I change my mind and use the WC later.

Anybody penciled in their WC timing?

I know what you mean, but 3 GWs could be enough to see form and getting the profit in early to use later in the season.

I might try and cover both bases - pick a side which on paper should do well for the GWs 1-3, but also is decent for say GWs 1-6 so I have a backup plan should after GW3 be too early.

my plan this year is to use the january wildcard first, and use the other one to go crazy on double game weeks.

I'm trying to favour quality over fixtures, and pick players playing 90 mins frequently, where possible so think i can get quite far without major transfers.

Then hopefully when it comes to dgws i can absolutely kill it with my last wildcard.

Im holding onto it for as long as possible, preferably for a DGW. I always use it too early. This season, if my team is failing i am going to take a big points hit rather then use my wildcard early.

Yeah? Interesting. I always end up using my wildcard early but would be nice to have it post january. What's the logic behind a big points hit then as opposed to using the WC? You think you'd be able to make those points up later in a DGW?

By big point hit i mean 12max. I'll avoid taking hit's if possible. I took way too many last season. It would be nice to use one WC for a DGW and then use the 2nd WC straight after to sort my team out for the rest of the season.

I tend to think that the early use of the wild card suggests more a poor initial team selection than anything. You should hold your wild card until it can be used to maximum effect and that means bringing in strong DGW players.

All the early WC seeks to do is gain value by jumping on whatever bandwagons there are going. In practice, the wheels fall off a lot of those and you are left two weeks later with a team you do not want.

Given the effort most people put into their initial team selection, why would they suddenly feel the team was poor after two games?

Rather than post a RMT I am going to post my team and why I chose them. If you have any thoughts feel free to chime in. Typically a 343, 352 Formation.

    Given Begovic
    Kompany ACole Bardsley Orr Simpson
    Downing Malouda Sinclair Tchoyi Buszacky
    RVP Suarez Zamora

*Given & Bego - Rotate perfectly, solid teams, good value, good save points
*Kompany - Solid Team, Reasonably Cheap
*Cole - Attacking in solid team, While expensive allows me to change to most other exp Defs if nec
*Orr, Simpson, Bardsley - The above 2 will always start, These will be rotated - Best 1 Playing, Rotate almost perfectly
*Downing - Solid, consistant performer, As a LFC fan I can see him starting 90% of games, great delivery for assists and the way we will play I can see him getting into scoring positions (a la Maxi last year)
*Malouda - Che have good fixtures, if he starts he is in my team, Good EArating, Goals, Assists
*Sinclair - Bit of a Gamble, Reasonably Priced,
Tchoyi - On Form it seems, Cheap, playing up front (OOP)
Buszacky - Put him in when Taarbat was supposed to leave, cant find anyone to replace him with (Budget)
RVP - Bad Start but so does Rooney, May consider swap to Tevez but can score against anyone
Zamora - Good Start, Good Price, Gets Goals
Suarez - If he starts he's in my team, Great form, Scoring Goals, new players will help him, As will new rule on freekick assists.

anyway i read it and agree with a lot of what you say... good team. Not sure about ashley cole - He needs to improve dramatically from last season.

Also i had tchoyi in my team but then decided against him because he might not start - i'll be ready to snap him up if the chance arises.

downing is my main disagreement with you... which would free up funds to improve tchoyi and busz if you buy someone a bit cheaper

    Given, Begovic
    ACole, Kompany, Hughes, Kelly, Simpson
    Yaya, Sessegnon, Taarabt, Tchoyi, O'Hara
    RVP, Bent, Ba

Could anyone offer any advice? I don't think my team is quite perfect yet...

    Here are my thoughts/concerns:
    - I think my keepers rotate well.
    - I like my defence, although I'm not sure about Kelly?
    - I think my midfield has some good picks but I'm worried there's no big hitters.
    - I'm thinking of swapping RVP for Suarez (and thus freeing up some money).

If you get a SUN defender to rotate with Simpson then you could get rid of Kelly. RVP will always be worth it and perhaps keep your front 3 until Suarez looks certain to start games. I'd then shift Bent for him rather than RVP. Your Mids are pretty shallow...in fariness you only have RVP and maybe Bent as captain options...not a good thing. I'd sacrifice Cashley and use the money to bring in Downing maybe for either Sess or Taarabt. Just a thought...

Kelly probably won't be starting if we buy a left back. Tchoyi is a risk too. I don't rate Yaya personally, way too many 2 point returns for 8.0. I'm not sold on taarabt when you can get proven players for 6.5, he has the ability and fixtures to be a worthwhile gamble though.

Tchoyi might be a risk, but given he's almost OOP playing up the field almost as a striker, it seems possible he could pick up some goals?

He won't score many from the bench though. I may be wrong but I think he'll be mainly used from the bench.

Having re-jigged some money, I've Malouda, Sessegnon and O'Hara, and need two more midfielders, with 11.5 left to spend.

Who would be the best choices?

I like this team a lot as it takes a risk, and is more based around the potential that new players and team structure can offer.

I think O'Hara will be better this season as he can finally settle at Wolves, as can Ba who is now the go-to man up front for Newcastle.

I would be worried about Tchoyi, and i'm still not convinced that Taraabt can step up. But defensively it looks great

Which of these "slightly" lower priced Mids:

    Watson, Moses, Hoolahan, Tchoyi

...would be selected over these "slightly" higher priced Mids:

    Gardner, Brunt, O'Hara, Barton?

    Morning all,

Could I get a quick RMT, in return I will offer my opinions on others'

    Given (AL-Habsi)

Rafael - Kompany - Simpson - Distin [Orr]

VDV - Lamps - Brunt [Dyer, Derry]

    Suarez - RVP - Zamora

    Many thanks!

    - PS - I'm slightly worried about my defence, and beleive I may have all my eggs in one basket having invested 22m in Lamps and VDV

Its a decent team, but as you say, I think you may have overdone it slightly in midfield with both Lamps and VDV plus West Brom have a very tough start so Brunt wont get you a whole lot.

I think your keepers look good, and I like your strikers a lot. Defence looks decent, although I'd be concerned about rotation for Rafael - for the same price you could consider Gibbs, Kelly, Hughes? I also think your midfield drops off a bit after VDV and Lamps - you could do with a bit more strength in depth.

      Could you see mine above?

Initialy I thought that Albrighton was nailed on, however the immenent arrival of N'zogs may affect this...not sure if they'll switch one or the other left!

He was in my initial draft but now I've gone for Barton...good value for 6.5.

Like the inclusion of Pratley, been thinking of having him or Petrov for GW1, they'll have to taken straight out after that though that's the problem.

Yaya seems to be playing quite deep atm...just a thought!

Distin might be the better Everton choice, scored a couple towards the end of last season.

Other than that I like it.

I have re-shuffled my team since last posting, what do people make of it? I will give a couple of reasons too.

    Given (Ruddy)
    Kompany, Samba, Riise (Jagielka, Simpson)
Y Toure, Taraabt, N'Zogbia, Downing (Jarvis)
    Suarez, Gervinho, Ba

I've also got 2.5m lift over, so suggestions would be appreicated!

I chose Given and Ruddy as cheap options that will get starts, and be able to rotate if needs be, but Given is very much first choice.
Kompany, Samba and Riise will bring in a mixture of clean sheets and goals, with Jagielka as good backup and Simpson as a cheap option.
My midfield will get goals and assists, and I can choose the sub based on fixtures.
Strikers will score goals, and hopefully Suarez and Gervinho can grab a few assists too. Plenty of potential for bonus points.

    Thanks!

Thanks for all the comments above guys, I think I need a bit more tinkering
    - With regards to Cole, I think he will do well this year, Good fixtures to start also.
    - Downing,Buz, Tchoyi -> Nzog, Barton, O'Hara - Im 1mill short and not convinced by NZog - Villa are going to be defensive this year - Bent is the only one I can see getting attacking points and he is exp

Im reasonably happy with Def and Att - Ill play with the Mid a little bit more.
