Chelsea find their feet and rack up the goals, with Frank Lampard -significantly playing on the right of the central midfield three- opening the scoring in a 4-0 romp.

New boy Darren Pratley stakes his claim for a mid-price starting berth in the Bolton midfield with his second goal in three games for Owen Coyle’s side. Victor Moses warms to the N’Zogbia wing role. Mario Balotelli enrages Roberto Mancini with an impudent back-heel when clean through on goal and is substituted straight away.

With just three weeks to go, we’re beginning to get some handy pointers with would-be first choice players now starting to earn more pitch time and formations perhaps resembling those on show on August 13.

Our pre-season guide has been fleshed out with all the latest results, with our team news notes now filling up with insight on form and lineup trends.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Luiz, Kompany, Rafael (Wilkinson,Simpson)
    VDV, taarabt, sinclair, wilshere, (johnson)
    Rooney, VP, Zamora
    0.5 mill to spare

DEF - unsure about weather luiz or rafael will start but wanting cheap man utd and chelsea cover
MID - VDV always good and 2 set piece/starmen in taarabt and sinclair - wilshere just cos good price for arsenal player

By your own admission losing both Luiz and Rafael (if rotated) could harm your results...add that Wilshere isn't known to score goals and both Taraabt and Sinclair are new to the league...you may just have issues should VDV, Rooney and even RVP not do the business with hard fixtures to start. I think the team will either score huge or not much at all and seems a gamble for me. Just something to consider I spose. You do have 3 captain's choices there which is great!

If Aguero does indeed come to Man City what you guys think of him as a fantasy prospect? I quite like their early fixtures and if Tevez leaves can see Aguero being 'number 1' striker, should be at least if they shelling out 45million for him :p Could be seen as a risk because he's obv new to the premier league but I think he's the right type of player to do well, is he penalty taker for Athletico? Thanks

Balotelli was £24m, Dzeko was £27m - hardly throwaway figures. I'd expect rotation.

Dzeko looked absolutely toilet last night. Silva outshone everyone on the pitch by quite a margin.

Mancini's comments to Balotelli should have gone along the lines of "If you try and pull that crap off make sure you're good enough to do it - maybe you need to realise you're not quite the player your ego thinks you are?" Rather than waffle about being disrespectful, that won't teach him a thing. Mancini should also point out he scored one of the best back-heel goals in history because he WAS good enough to!

    2 Questions:

-Vidic or Baines? Who is likely to score more points, or would I be better off avoiding both?
-Riise or Hangeland? Want one of these Fulham defenders, both have scoring potential, who is better though?

    Thanks!

Not really tempted by either of Vidic or Baines but go Vidic if you have to. It's not secret that Everton take a while to get going.

For Fulham, Hangeland is the safe bet and Riise more of a gamble.

Man U do have some tough games to start though - expect Vidic to punch/elbow some of the more skilful players he's up against. Whether or not he's punished for it or not is another matter, think there were 5 occasions last season where he got away with assaulting players.

I wouldn't be tempted by Wilshere's price, he isn't really a high-scoring player. Will get you a solid 2-3 points every week, but nothing special. Also not sure about having two promoted midfielders, maybe choose just one.

I don't get the fuss about Zamora, can someone enlighten me? 😛

wiltshere might shine if both nasri and fabs leave so wont totally rule him out, his on my watch list.

Probably not worth all the extra hype his getting but still zamora has been consistently good of late barring injuries. You could do alot worse then get zamora in.

After a lot of tinkering current team is:

    Given/Ruddy

    Huth/Kompany/Hughes/Simpson/Wilkinson

    VDV/Nzog/Downing/Taarabt/Tiote

    RVP/Suarez/Odem

Little worried about lack of Chelsea and Man u players but Chelsea overpriced ruining balance of side and Man U subject to rotation. Will keep eye on Fulham defensively under Jol and if Enrique moves to Pool then probably swap Hughes out?

Not 100% sold on Downing yet but think his supply to Carol potentially offer big returns

    Thoughts would be appreciated.

Reasonably similar to my team - Tiote isn't really good for getting many points, so I'd look elsewhere. Perhaps swap RVP for Gervinho or Hernandez and use the extra money to get a better option than Tiote? The rest looks good though!

    Rafeal/Riise Luiz Kompany (Simpson W.Brown)

    Unsure on a few things

    2. My midfield feels underdone to me, a little weak. I also wanted O'Hara but don't know who to rid for him

I have re-shuffled my team since last posting, what do people make of it? I will give a couple of reasons too. (Post seemed to get lost earlier! :P)

    Given (Ruddy)
    Kompany, Samba, Riise (Jagielka, Simpson)
Y Toure, Taraabt, N’Zogbia, Downing (Jarvis)
    Suarez, Gervinho, Ba

I’ve also got 2.5m lift over, so suggestions would be appreicated!

I chose Given and Ruddy as cheap options that will get starts, and be able to rotate if needs be, but Given is very much first choice.
Kompany, Samba and Riise will bring in a mixture of clean sheets and goals, with Jagielka as good backup and Simpson as a cheap option.
My midfield will get goals and assists, and I can choose the sub based on fixtures.
Strikers will score goals, and hopefully Suarez and Gervinho can grab a few assists too. Plenty of potential for bonus points.

    Thanks!
