All the paper talk today suggests that Aston Villa are closing in on the signing of Charles N’Zogbia from Wigan for a fee in the region of £9.5 million.

There’s no official confirmation of such an agreement from either club at this point but the reports suggest that the French winger will undergo a medical and agree terms within the next 24-hours.

While we wouldn’t normally deal in pure speculation or discuss a transfer yet to be concluded, N’Zogbia’s potential more to Villa Park carries such significance, it deserves our early attention.

Of all the summer transfers so far, this one could have a major impact on the prospects of both clubs and several players nestled in the low-to-mid price brackets across the various Fantasy games.

N’Zogbia himself, a long-time Fantasy favourite, will likely find himself a key player once again. While he has arguably been the leading light at Wigan, his influence and match winning potential seems unlikely to be diluted by a move to Villa Park. With Ashley Young and Stewart Downing now departed, the scene is set for N’Zogbia to take charge at set-plays and orchestrate the key threat to the opposition, in much the same way he did at the Latics. His mid-price value (7.5 in the Fantasy Premier League game) will look appealing to many, particularly those who choose to turn their backs on the goal-getting potential of Darren Bent for Villa’s favourable opening spell of fixtures.

N’Zogbia’s arrival will however have a likely impact on the potential of Marc Albrighton. The England U21 international was expected to build on an hugely encouraging first season in the Premier League by stepping up to fill the void left by Young and Downing. While his starting role should remain assured, N’Zogbia will likely take on the role of lock-picker, supplier of crosses and assists and deadball duties. Albrighton’s potential for points will take a hit – albeit a minor one.

There could be better news for Fantasy managers back at Wigan. Robbed of N’Zogbia’s trickery and guile, Roberto Martinez has a ready-made replacement in Victor Moses. While the 20-year-old lacks the experience and pedigree of the Frenchman, he has the ability in his locker and the hunger to prove himself in the top flight. Already sparkling in pre-season, Moses will surely relish the prospect of regular starts. With a budget price across the various games (5.0 in the Fantasy Premier League), Fantasy managers should also look forward to Moses realising at least some of his potential should the N’Zogbia deal be concluded.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

      1. because most of them are investing in the likes of bent given or dunne/collins or even albrighton. thus doubling up or even tripling isnt such a great idea.
      2. because bonus points will not be as good as at wigan where he was almost guarateed the triple everytime they win or draw.
      3. he moved from being the main creating force and playmaker of a team to a first team regular winger

2 questions for anyone who plays the metro game:

    1) Do your free transfers get rolled over as in FPL?
    2) What happens if your captain doesn't play?

I did have a read of the rules but couldn't see the answers/

No doubt this will change as the season gets closer but what do you reckon to this team?

    Kenny (Given)
    A.Cole Hughes Kompany (Turner) (Simpson)
    N'Zogbia Silva(c) Moses Taarabt (Sinclair)
    RVP Suarez Rodallega

8 home players GW1 (assuming n'zog->villa) Then get in malouda for silva GW2 as £1m in the bank. Midfield seems a bit weak but taarabt and sinclair should be on set pieces, n'zog will be good as usual and a spot for silva/VDV/malouda/nasri depending on who's on form. Moses is a gamble though but could always change him to the likes of o'hara or ben arfa

    Given, Kenny
    ACole, Kompany, Bramble, Alcaraz, Simpson
    Silva, Taarabt, Zogbia,Sessegnon, Dyer
    Drogba, Rooney, Zamora

what do you think about this team? playing the two main defenders week in week out, and rotate the rest in a 3-4-3 formation.

have a feeling that silva will do better than yaya this time, taarabt main man of the team, zogbia is consistent, sessegnon OOP, dyer bench.

Team lacked fluidity offensively after they took Silva out at half-time. Positive - defense looked very very organized. Kompany and Lescott did just fine, protected by De Jong. VERY organized at the back.

Adam Johnson didn't get as many touches as I (or he) would have liked to rate him further. Looked a bit annoyed on the right touchline for long stretches. At the end of the day everything came through Silva - no one else was really creative.

Dzeko looked very slow to me and I wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot pole.

Cheers in conclusion Kompany and Silva are definitely good picks. Lescott could be a good one as well.

I like that, very similar to mine but I have another city defender and therefore Holt instead of Zamora.

Yeah I did have Holt in there too instead of Zamora and Yaya as City coverage so may change back to that. Could do Sess to Yaya and Zamora to Holt. Just not 100% sure Yaya will start all the games...

Don't know if Silva will be worth 9.5M - value wise, but he is by no means utter crap. Watched City live yesterday and he ran everything in the midfield. Amazing first touch, incredible vision, and technique. Will pick up 10+ assists and loads of bonus points.

          1) Silva - utter crap?? What were you watching last season? Top, top player.

          2) Behind the expensive options from Chelsea/Manchester clubs clean sheets are almost impossible to predict, therefore i'd rather spend points on other parts of my team which will more likely gather returns. Is this just me?

Strong team, but no Chelsea attacking players would be a concern. Perhaps VDV - Malouda?

I think if closer to the season we know which attacking players will play for Chelsea I may put one in, but for now its a pointless risk in my opinion as any one of them could play or sit on the bench.

Potentially, I need to keep an eye on him leading up to the season. Most Man.u. fans iv spoken to seem to expect him to take the RB role

Lads lets please talk about first 3 fixtures of City.

Defensively I don't like them, offensively maybe, if I had to rate them offensively that is 6/10 max.

Are City players worth of investing in them at all? (Tevez aside)

It wouldn't be the same without a potential great value risk.

A.Johnson and Benny-high-noon keep jumping around my team. Will they even be on the pitch though?

    Any others out there...
