All the paper talk today suggests that Aston Villa are closing in on the signing of Charles N’Zogbia from Wigan for a fee in the region of £9.5 million.

There’s no official confirmation of such an agreement from either club at this point but the reports suggest that the French winger will undergo a medical and agree terms within the next 24-hours.

While we wouldn’t normally deal in pure speculation or discuss a transfer yet to be concluded, N’Zogbia’s potential more to Villa Park carries such significance, it deserves our early attention.

Of all the summer transfers so far, this one could have a major impact on the prospects of both clubs and several players nestled in the low-to-mid price brackets across the various Fantasy games.

N’Zogbia himself, a long-time Fantasy favourite, will likely find himself a key player once again. While he has arguably been the leading light at Wigan, his influence and match winning potential seems unlikely to be diluted by a move to Villa Park. With Ashley Young and Stewart Downing now departed, the scene is set for N’Zogbia to take charge at set-plays and orchestrate the key threat to the opposition, in much the same way he did at the Latics. His mid-price value (7.5 in the Fantasy Premier League game) will look appealing to many, particularly those who choose to turn their backs on the goal-getting potential of Darren Bent for Villa’s favourable opening spell of fixtures.

N’Zogbia’s arrival will however have a likely impact on the potential of Marc Albrighton. The England U21 international was expected to build on an hugely encouraging first season in the Premier League by stepping up to fill the void left by Young and Downing. While his starting role should remain assured, N’Zogbia will likely take on the role of lock-picker, supplier of crosses and assists and deadball duties. Albrighton’s potential for points will take a hit – albeit a minor one.

There could be better news for Fantasy managers back at Wigan. Robbed of N’Zogbia’s trickery and guile, Roberto Martinez has a ready-made replacement in Victor Moses. While the 20-year-old lacks the experience and pedigree of the Frenchman, he has the ability in his locker and the hunger to prove himself in the top flight. Already sparkling in pre-season, Moses will surely relish the prospect of regular starts. With a budget price across the various games (5.0 in the Fantasy Premier League), Fantasy managers should also look forward to Moses realising at least some of his potential should the N’Zogbia deal be concluded.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Stats for Graham look very good (24 goals and 9 assists last year), and I reckon Swansea will do quite well when they're at home at least - whether Graham starts brilliantly at Swansea is a different question.

For those of you who are interested, i’ve come up with a clever new strategy for playing fantasy football this season…

    - Make a list of all the players who have the potential to really hurt you if you don’t include in your team, and I mean really hurt you.

    - Make sure you include all the players on the list in your team, that way theres no way they can really hurt you.

Draft #20....or so! Please let me know what you all think. Have 2.5mln left over so could either stregthen now or use it to upgrade bent to RVP in w4. All thoughts welcome!

Al Habsi, Mignolet(change to Gordon of he gets the nod)

    Clichy, Kompany, Hughes, Bardsley, Enrique

Downing, Nzog, Barton, Albrighton, Sinclair (bit unsure about Nzog & Albr if they're both gonna be at Villa park)

    Bent, Carroll, Zamora

    Captains w's 1-4: Carroll-Bent-Bent-Carroll

I really think you'll be hurting without one of Rooney/RVP
I've got them both purely out of fear haha
If they hit a big score you'll see a red arrow because of their high ownership.

Anyone thinking of a 4-5-1 or 5-4-1 formation at all??

And Given seems to be a certain starter at the moment - Robinson is the same price and played a full season and 4th top goalie even though Blackburn flirted with relegation

I think that Bosingwa could do well this year. There's the Portuguese connection. And the fact AVB likes attacking wing backs. Shoving Ivanovic at RB was quite an Italian solution. Obviously we'll have to wait to see how preseason pans out but I can see a Chelsea back line of Bosingwa Luiz Terry Cole.

Also, people have been muttering about Simpson's place being under threat. From who? Why? Any truth in this?

    1. Does Gervinho at 9mil provide better VALUE than RVP at 12mil?

    3. Should I get Rooney and/or VDV, they have great form but tough fixtures?
    4. Is Taarabt, Sinclair AND Holt a bit OTT? Should I keep 1/2/3 of them, and who?

      2) Yes
      3) No and maybe, but probably both no
      4) Fine as long as you have 8 attacking options to rotate with fixtures

        4. Yeah. I'd rate them Sinclair > Taarabt > Holt, but Dyer is excellent value for Swansea. Think you need to go with proven scorers up front, as I expect the new BPS to favour strikers.

    IMO VDV>Silva

VDV on penalties, in a more attacking side and as he proved last season he is fixture proof.

Some say fixture proof, some say inconsistent. VdV's biggest hauls last season were against Aston Villa home and away, Arsenal home and away,Blackburn at home and Wolves at home.

He did nothing against Blackpool at home and nothing against West Ham at home.

    Anyone else considering Kalou?

He won't start every game but he seems to come off the bench at least every game and usually grabs a goal or an assist.

I think its because you have two 12 mill players! the only way for that to happen is for the rest of your team to be cheap and hopefully cheerful

Is it me or is picking Chelsea's attacking players a total headache with the new manager. Lamps is probably a nailed on starter but I would like to pick one of Benayoun, Zhirkov or Sturridge. Thoughts?

man utd seem as much of rotation risk as chelsea at the moment! I would love to start hernandez due to his end of season form but all depends on the formation

I can't see Valencia, Nani and Young all on the pitch at the same time but who will be dropped? Valencia is fergies golden boy, nani is in amazing preseason form and was a certain captain choice last yr and they have just signed Young for 20 mill!

Young/Park will rotate on the left. Nani/Valencia will rotate on the right. As of now i'd say Rooney and Hernandez will start most games, unless Ferg switches back to 433 for harder away games. Even if that did happen though, there is a small chance Rooney could start left, hernandez in the middle and Young/Nani right with Rooney and one of the latter two switching flanks.
